The CES HD-DVD press conference just ended and details are trickling, this been one of the first. So much for BD's 50GB space advantage! :D
kiddsilk69 01-08-07, 12:29 AM Good news but I not quite sure about movie playback not that it is needed but then again the 45 TL are most likely coming out soon.
ryoohki 01-08-07, 12:40 AM Well seems that DL45 was cancelled some time ago, then even removed it from the official HD DVD page this summer, i guess it was for this. Now IF they can PRODUCE those disc, in Reality, Disney should be happy, that's what they wanted..
Art Sonneborn 01-08-07, 09:08 AM What is interesting is I heard it said that when the HDDVD group said they could produce 45Gb HDDVD if Disney wanted it they still said they weren't interested.

vurbano 01-08-07, 09:19 AM Its 51!. BD is now truely inferior in every way!!! Price, performance and capacity!!!!!!!!!
Its vaporware until its released but it is great news that they are working towards this at least and I look forward to it even if its at the expense of having to update my player
swifty7 01-08-07, 09:51 AM the 51GB news is good but how about compatability with existing players?
I guess the early adopters are SOL.

Thats been lock for a while do to trolling a feeding of said troll. Remember this is a Zoo and feeding trolls is bad idea, they keep coming back for more.

Vaporware implies it does not exist. BD50 is very real and will become the standard just as dual layer DVD9 did. DVD9 was not ready with the initial DVD rollout and it was not the standard until DVD was out for 3 years.
William 01-08-07, 11:39 AM ...have they been able to mass produce 50 GB BR DVDs yet?
Yes, there are probobly 25 or more titles available.
Yes, there are probobly 25 or more titles available.
There are 15 - BD50s available
That's good for Hd-dvd data users, but means nothing to the movie viewers.
Just like the 200GB blu-ray made by TDK, this is not part of the standard and these discs won't play on stand-alone Hd-dvd players.
Now what about the triple layer hd-dvd? Is it part of the hd-dvd movie standard as well? Is its support mandatory or optional?
kevinlc 01-08-07, 01:25 PM Awesome news!
Topweasel 01-08-07, 01:57 PM Actually what more important is the 17GB platters. That means 34GB discs should be available soon and will help us even if we don't get HD45/50 we will still get that little more extra room that seems to have all of the Lotr fans out there frightened.
I think the more important question is will current HD-DVD players be able to play these new disks with no issue if they ever do get made.
Topweasel 01-08-07, 02:26 PM I think the more important question is will current HD-DVD players be able to play these new disks with no issue if they ever do get made.
They will Probably have little issue playing the 17-34GB discs, the Triple layer discs are another topic. I see this as being much like the 650-700MB CDs.
Fettastic 01-08-07, 02:27 PM If all goes smoothly, it will be probably around 12-18 months before we see the first film manufactured using it. By then it might be too little, too late if BD keeps up the pressure of releases they are now.
I don't think the pressure of the new Blu-ray releases means much if there are no players sold to play them. I understand that content is important but reasonably priced players that are sold to a consumer is just as important. If the studios start to smell money they will start to increase the HD DVD releases. The PS3 was supposed to create an avalanche that would bury HD DVD and it didn't happen. Now Toshiba is countering with a big push towards affordable players. How Sony will counter this is hard to say, but they have their work cut out for them. Giving Sony's track record, I think they are in trouble.
rolltide1017 01-09-07, 01:29 AM We'll see but, I think some HD DVD fans are turning a blind eye to the affect that great software can have. That is one impressive list of BD titles that has me seriously considering going format neutral and buy a BD player to sit next to my A1. All HD DVD got was Matrix and Potter, both of which should have been released last year, and Paramount's laughable list. I just wish HD DVD had more specific titles to announce instead of promising "300 titles in 2007." Come on, bring out the big guns, give us something to really sink are teeth into not this 51GB vaporware junk.
LAGOSIAN 01-10-07, 12:05 PM HEY GUYS, I FOUND A PICTURE OF THE 51G HD DVD DISC. :)
