When purchasing a ps3, is it recommended to seek a certain mfg date to assure oneself of certain "bugs" being addressed?

1/1/2008.

Seriously, I'm not sure if there are any hardware revisions yet. If you are interested in a particular issue I wouldn't buy it until you verify that's been fixed. Only big issue that I'm aware of is the scaling issue and I don't believe that's been addressed yet.

Are there differences (quality control) between those manufactured in China vs. the early ones that were manufactured in Japan? Mine was made in China, and works great.

And it's extremely unlikely that it will ever be addressed.

And you are saying this because?

No revisions as of yet but typically speaking I would trust the Japanese built units more than the Chinese built units (just based upon previous consumer electronics and not the PS3 in general) .
