Happy new year all!!

I just got around to connecting my new Oppo 971 (well, it's new to me) this last weekend. I noticed a couple of issues that I would like one of the experts here to weigh in on (if you would please). BTW, the player is connected via DVI directly to my Optoma HD72. The player will not allow we to change the resolution from 480p to 720p etc or upconvert. Supposedly, pressing the DVI button on the Oppo's remote will take you through the available resolution settings. This did not happen for me. All I got was the circle with the diagonal line through it when I tried to change the resolution. I know this is a simple question (for the right person) but I couldn't find the answer in the owner's manual.

Any thoughts on why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Playback must be stopped before resolution can be changed. This is true of certain setup menu options also.
