Hey all,
I'm upgrading from the Benq pb6100 (SVGA) to the Mitsubishi HD1000 (720p). I have the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on. I already think that the HD DVD looks awesome on my PJ, can I expect a marked improvement in PQ over what I already had? I am going to have a 116 inch screen (with 6100 I had a 92 inch screen).
In other words, even though HD DVD s are made in 1080p and I won' t have THAT much resolution increase, how much improvement will I see going from 480p to 720p (properly calibrated, of course).
Thanks in advance,
Chad Fletcher

You will see an big improvement. I have a 1024x768 and 720p projector and I can see the difference.
You're basically asking the question if 720p looks better than 480p. If people didn't see the difference, it would be hard to justify the prices of 720p sets, which are a majority at any store. I know there there are other things such as contrast and color, but the resolution is important. It is still 3x the resolution, which is a bigger difference than 2.25x from 720p to 1080p.
You can probably get a much better response in the projector forum though.
Hope I help.

I agree. I have a Sanyo PLV-Z4 720p pj, and HD DVDs look phenominal.
Your upgrade will be well worth it...no doubts about that!

I had an infocus screenplay 4800 (SVGA) projector and just recently upgraded to the Mitsubishi HD1000 myself (about two months ago). I am using a 108" screen, and the difference is phenomenal. I was extremely happy with my infocus, but I don't regret the upgrade one bit. The HD1000 is a light cannon (mine stays in low lamp mode even with all the lights on) and the colors are just amazing. I didn't know if I would notice the 720P vs. 480P difference either, but the difference is very observeable. Even my wife thought the upgrade was a good move, and the last thing that she wanted to do was feed my gadget habit. When I made the projector switch I had not gotten into HD DVD yet, but all of my HD programming improved immediately. The difference in HD material on the 480p projector versus the 720p projector was akin to the difference in standard def programming versus HD programming on the 480p projector (in my opinion). I was surprised further when I upgraded to HD DVD to make another similar quality leap from HD satellite to HD DVD. The projector upgrade was so good for me that even normal DVD looks perceivably better (brightness, contrast, color saturation), and I find that my projector usage has increased exponentially. If your experience is anything like mine, you will be very happy.
