I am getting a Von Schweikert VS-4 SR Mark II speakers and need advise about a power amp.
Can tube amps handle them or do they need a powerful solid state amp?
Any recommendations to narrow my search. (I am looking for a new pre-amp too)

I heard these speakers matched with the Vac Phi 300 amp (http://www.vac-amps.com/Phi_300.htm) and the sound was fantastic. I don't remember the preamp or source.

They will run great on tube amps on mine I am using simaudio and it sounds great.

I am glad to hear they sound great with tube amps. The Vac Phi 300 is $15,000 and I set a budget for around $10K for amp/pre-amp/cables

I used BAT VK-150 'blocks on my former SR Mk.1s as well as my present VR-5 SEs to very good effect. Before that I used a Levinson No.432. Both are well within your budget.
