View Full Version : The REFRESH BUTTON and I: A Love Story
Fettastic 01-08-07, 04:08 PM It started off innocently enough, a casual glance across a smoky room, an occassional wink. We were curious, but that was all. I had some bookmarks anyway, more than a few actually. That's just how I roll.
One day I walked by the refresh button and pretended to bump into it, just to start up a conversation. There was something there, a spark. Fear of giving into our inhibitions sent us on our seperate ways, but we stayed in each other's thoughts.
Then, it happened. The server went down. I was in trouble and I ran to the only arms that could quel my fear, those of the refresh button. Gently the refresh button rocked my tears away, and that was all she wrote.
It was a night I'll never forget, a night of unbridled passion. I carried the refresh button through its door and threw it on the bed. Like an animal I pounced, teasing and fondling I would not be denied.
As the screen flashed "We're sorry, the server is too busy now. Please try again later", I pounded the refresh button. Like a butcher with a meat tenderisor I made that refresh button mine! All the while visions of a properly loading screen crept into my thoughts as I sought the release. The refresh button moaned and buckled as my persistence continued unfettered until finally...I was able to create this thread.
Sure it's a relationship of convenience, I admit that. Maybe I'm just using the refresh button. Maybe when this crisis is over it will turn to a couple of awkward glances and an excuse to leave, but for right now it's sweet bliss.
nharmon91 01-08-07, 04:27 PM CES is killing the servers apparently, quite annoying.
Joe-Six-Pack 01-08-07, 04:58 PM Best Post EVAR!
nharmon91 01-08-07, 07:45 PM Jesus we were gone for an eternity
mrkrispy 01-08-07, 08:01 PM lmao great post!
David Scott 01-08-07, 08:23 PM This is great news for Blu-Ray.
I heard the "refresh button" is going to be a Blu-Ray exclusive. :D
GmanAVS 01-08-07, 08:24 PM lmao great post!
it took me 4 refreshes to read your post Fettastic, and about 3 to say LOL :p
BrickTop 01-08-07, 08:31 PM LOL!!! Nice post!
maverick0716 01-08-07, 08:55 PM Wow, that was some damn good writing! lmao!
:D Good stuff. I wasn't able to get on the site at all until about 20 minutes ago (after trying for about 3 hours at work). Though I didn't constantly pound refresh, only every 15 minutes or so. It has been bad since last week with CES announcements starting..
markrubin 01-08-07, 09:04 PM new servers are being put on line: if you have trouble: try clearing the cache
a couple of years ago, we used to have a 'Survival Guide' for AVS site slowdowns: we recommended folks copy the post to the clipboard in case the server went down and the post was lost
This is the forth major upgrade of servers in the last four years or so: shows how popular the site is
rboster 01-08-07, 10:48 PM Fett: One of the few times I really did LOL. Very funny thread.
Wasn't sure what it was about from the title but after reading it...good post :D
Fettastic 01-09-07, 11:25 AM Thanks guys. It's been a little tough censoring myself here. I'm used to very baudy humor at rottentomatoes.com as RETURN_of_FETT.
But then again, it's a nice refrain. We got pretty carried away over there and some of it was downright nasty. It's good to focus on issues instead of creative pornographic ways to diss people/movies/Wii....although that can be fun too.;)

You have a way with words ! It does sound as though it was a satisfying experience. Did you have a smoke afterwards ? :D

Eddie Horton 01-09-07, 03:33 PM "That's just how I roll." That is comedy gold right there.
Assayer 01-09-07, 07:17 PM Post Of The Year!
Customgamer1 01-09-07, 10:43 PM I notice this server to be to busy around 11am to 3pm almost every day? Those are kind of wide open hours but my only guess it everyone flocks to this site during lunch and at night no matter what time it's always goes very fast? I do have to push refresh about 500 times during that time to get where I want it to take me.
I did notice the few times at night it happened with big announcements at night. O well CES is only a few days longs and I try not to look on avs during the lunch hours!
