conversion from 480i to anything better, just does not seem to work. I tried my VCR first, getting rid of S-video cables and putting in Component ones. Still got 480i in the Mitsubishi.

Then tried the Dish cable box and had same result. Dish is delivering a HDTV box Wednesday, but I wanted to try getting better signal between now and then if possible. Not to mention that the HD box from DISH obvoiusly won't affect the DVD player.

Could it be the cables? I got the HDTV kit from Costco that I wrote about in another thread. I compared the prices of the cables I needed locally and decided to just get the whole kit from them.

The kit has two HDMI cables too, but until the HD box gets here Wednesday, nothing I have here requires them.

probably read the manual and try more buttons on the remote..........look for the format or display buttons

just because it upscales or fills the screen does not mean it will be a better picture, 480i in is just gonna be 480i strectched.

no it's not the cables, if you ever need cables try monoprice.com for good solid well built cables at excellent prices.

it will always only say what the what is inputed to the tv. If it is 480i in, it will say 480i....every pic is converted to 1080p, its native resolution. Do not expect hi def qualty from a 480i/p source. Even my toshiba hd dvd still says 1080i( since that what it outputs) even though the tv displays it at 1080p.

Yeah...

That's the input signal, NOT the output...
