I've been to several stores today and have seen both of these TV's. I'm leaning towards the Aquos but I thought I'd ask the experts before I pulled the trigger.
This will be mostly for DVD watching (HD-DVD eventually), Xbox 360 gamming and a few HD shows or sports. I get a fair amount of light in my place and will be about 7 feet or so from the TV. I'd like to avoid ghosting, silkscreen and any other issues that may come with DLP or LCD. I am coming from a RCA 38" HD tube set which has a very clear pic that never looks grainy with dvd's or HD programs. I am upgrading because I got an offer from someone to buy my TV and would like to go bigger.
So, what should I get?? Best Buy will give me the Aquos for $2350 so the two are somewhat close in price and $2350 is as high as I can go.
Thanks!

I actually work at BB...The Aquos has pretty bad banding, and to be honest with you, I don't really think the PQ is anything to brag home about. I was between that, the 5087w and the 50a2000, I took my chances with the 50a2000 though. With any purchase though, do yourself a favor and get the service plan. You just cant be sure nowadays.

Oh, if you've got the room to accomodate it, I'd probably go for the Samsung.
Plus the Sharp doesn't have a VGA input, but it does accept 1080p via component.
Your call, I'd go with the DLP, bigger screen, much cheaper. You could get a steal if you work with a MHT Pro.

I was at Circuit City and they put Star Wars ROTS on the Samsung for me and it looked terrible... very grainy and really lacking clarity and sharp lines... it kinda scared me off, is this normal for that TV or does it take some adjusting out of the box to get it looking up to par? The Sharp looked better but I did notice some slight ghosting.

After you adjust any TV, its gonna look much better...but theres nothing you're gonna be able to do about the Aquos' banding problems. What kind of DVD player were they playing the movie through? Since you have a 360, go get the VGA cables, they'll allow your 360 to upscale standard DVD's up to 1080p. That alone will make it look MUCH better.

It was a pretty nice Denon (can't remember the model) but it was no slouch. The picture was very distorted though... are there default settings that would make it look that bad? I've read so many positive reviews on the Sammy DLP's but looking at in store did not impress so I'm wondering if they had it set up wrong.
As an owner of a LC46D62U I think you should go with the Sammy. I've gone through one replacement waiting on a second. Both with banding so far, same goes from pretty much every other owner how has the issue.

The sets are frequently set up wrong, with multiple splitters causing a very weak signal. Make sure to look at more than one store. I remember looking at the Sony SXRD (LCOS). It had far and away the worst looking PQ at Tweeter, and on the same day the best looking PQ at CC. Go figure.
