I just bought a Optoma HD70 projector havent ordered a screen yet but will very soon. My questions are how do you mount the screen on the wall it will be a manual pull down screen more than likely. Do you need to have a certain distance from bottom of screen to the floor or not, or do you mount it as close to the ceiling as you can. This is all new to me would like advice so when I get screen it wont be a big hassle mounting it. Thanks.

I have a similar question. got a 92" elunevision manual pull-down screen and am researching options for installation.

i'm thinking of either getting toggle bolts to mount the screen onto the wall, as the studs in my room are likely not exactly 86.9" apart (the length of the housing). this way, i've got maximum strength (barring the stud route) and can put the screen pretty much anywhere.

or...i could mount it as close to the ceiling as possible so as to take advantage of the long horizontal stud. that is assuming that most rooms have this.

would appreciate any input!

I am fairly new to this as well but I can give you my experience with mounting my screen. I mounted my screen as high to the ceiling for a couple of reasons. 1. I have 8 ft. ceilings and I needed room for a piece of furniture to house my receiver, dvd player, etc. underneath the screen. I had a hard time finding a piece of furniture that would be able to house all of my components and yet be able to fit under the screen. If I were smart I would have ran wiring to another area of the room or the one next to it so I didn't have this problem. 2. I installed a 106" screen and for my personal taste I liked the screen a little higher than normal. It's higher than I would like but its what I ended up with.

There is a website that tells you the proper height for putting a screen up. The main factor will be how far away you will be sitting from the screen. If I find the website I will repost. I am fairly new to this as well but thought I would pass on that info.

Thanks alot guys for the responses, I will be sitting about 11 feet from the screen for what its worth. My wall is about 88'' high and thats up to where the moulding is by the ceiling. The screen I was looking at is 86.9 inches wide and 63 inches tall. Guess when I get the screen I will just mount it and adjust it to the projector if necessary.

I mounted the screen as close to the top of my sloped 8 foot ceilings as possible. The top is about 7 feet from the ground.

I have a manual pulldown (graywolf II) and initially was more concerned with having room at the bottom for components. I'm thinking now I may just cut some spare lumber and build my own platform, probably about 8 feet wide (close to even with the screen width) and about 18 inches deep (more than enough to hold my onkyo receiver, and put my screen in the center of the platform with the various components on the sides. The entire platform will probably be no more than 2 inches high (just build a frame with 2x4s). I'll paint the entire thing black.

By keeping my components very low to the floor, I'll increase my screen drop at the top, allowing me to move my table mounted projector closer to the screen, giving my front row of seating more room to recline.

Edit - for the life of me, i couldn't think of the type of lumber I was going to use (the name). I have a sheet of 8x3 drywall. I may just make the platform 3 feet wide or buy another piece and have home depot cut it to size for me.
