View Full Version : CES 2007 Photos and Show Report
justacoder 01-09-07, 02:26 AM We've got a few pics up tonight. I know there is a Lamm ML3 at CES thread, but there are a few other things that might be worth a gander at the show this year, ... but YMMV :-)
Audio Federation CES 2007 Show Report Dailies - DAY ONE (http://www.audiofederation.com/hifiing/2007/CES2007/day1/index.htm)
[You might indeed have to hit refresh,... our host is changing our IP adresses, and so far it has been a smooth transition for visitors to our site - but tonight it has been acting a little funny].
Enjoy!

scorch123 01-09-07, 09:22 AM Nice pics!
I can't believe I'm missing the second coming of the Soundlab Kimber IsoMike demo...
I am seriously considering a day jaunt from Phoenix to check it out.

tryingtimes 01-11-07, 12:15 PM lol - maybe they're some new reference headphone :D
YannickG 01-12-07, 10:34 PM Check this one out! This is not only a vibrating chair!

That is very cool Yannick. I am wondering if this will make our future generations of children better, or worse drivers. :)
Curt Palme 01-13-07, 10:56 AM A nice report. I will disagree with Mike's assessment of Sharp's 108" LCD. It looked pretty bad to me. Lots of video noise, and massive misconvergence/bleeding of the reds in the upper left corner. Good from far, far from good.
The LED driven Samsung 50" DLP was much better. 100,000:1 contrast ratio, 60K hour LED life, but not in production yet. They strobe the LED's to sync with the color wheel for no rainbows. I'm very sensitive to them, and that's the first single chip DLP I saw that didn't have rainbows. But at $70K street price, it's out of my league. For now.

A 50" set for a measly $70K?
Curt, have you been drinking again? Or mebbe you've been banging power cords with ValhallaPC. HAAA!
Curt Palme 01-13-07, 01:52 PM Nope, that's what I was quoted.
And puh-leeze, don't accuse me of 'banging' power cords. You might affect the electon structure of the Valhalla power cord and it will end up sounding like sh!te!
justacoder 01-13-07, 09:49 PM I said it was nice [even though the booth babes flanking the two that they had on the floor looked awfully uncomfortable - - - sorry, no pics... afraid once I start that things will get out of hand and forget to take pictures of any equipment. Especially when one realizes that a lot of the female attendees are better looking that the hired 'pretty girls' - and a lot of *them* are geeks like us (me)].
But I wouldn't go so far as to say the Sharp was great. Or even lust worthy.
For that, try this next door:

[OOPS. I MEANT TO INCLUDE A PHOTO OF THE Fijitsu Adiamo BUT NOW CAN'T FIND ANY I TOOK AT THIS YEAR's CES...!?]
Or ANY XBR LCD, for my taste.
As for Samsung, yep, great contrast ratios - and great depth - but if you watch any complicated sequence of pictures the pictures degrade into large blocks of pixels if you look closely / quickly. At least this has been my experience.
Rumor was that Samsung was prohibiting photos of their booth - so no pics will be forthcoming in our report - not wanting to have my camera confiscated.
Curt Palme 01-13-07, 11:30 PM Oh the hell with it, post the damn pix, I am..:)
THe only time I got asked not to take pix was at a very small booth manned by some Jewish fellows (they had Yarmulkes on, that's the only way I knew). THey were showing some cheapie LED colored speakers and as soon as I snapped one they came over and told me to stop so I did.
I was going to ask them about their products and promote them, but after that, forget it. I let them know that their actions turned me off and probably cost them business. Oh well...

I don't know... I think this could very well help to start, but after a little while they think they know all about it... :) Let me tell you it's a lot of fun!
Steve Bruzonsky 01-14-07, 01:41 AM A photo of one of the monoblock Granite Audio amplifiers:

The black modules on the left can be inserted into the amp, replacing other black modules in order to change the sound.
Another photo is up in today's dailies [about half way down]:

Luckily the kind fellow in the front room pointed me to this system in a room off to the side.... or I would never had seen it.
-Mike.
COOL!!!@@@ If you buy them, they can double for weightlifting! :D
