A nice report. I will disagree with Mike's assessment of Sharp's 108" LCD. It looked pretty bad to me. Lots of video noise, and massive misconvergence/bleeding of the reds in the upper left corner. Good from far, far from good.

The LED driven Samsung 50" DLP was much better. 100,000:1 contrast ratio, 60K hour LED life, but not in production yet. They strobe the LED's to sync with the color wheel for no rainbows. I'm very sensitive to them, and that's the first single chip DLP I saw that didn't have rainbows. But at $70K street price, it's out of my league. For now.

I said it was nice [even though the booth babes flanking the two that they had on the floor looked awfully uncomfortable - - - sorry, no pics... afraid once I start that things will get out of hand and forget to take pictures of any equipment. Especially when one realizes that a lot of the female attendees are better looking that the hired 'pretty girls' - and a lot of *them* are geeks like us (me)].

But I wouldn't go so far as to say the Sharp was great. Or even lust worthy.

As for Samsung, yep, great contrast ratios - and great depth - but if you watch any complicated sequence of pictures the pictures degrade into large blocks of pixels if you look closely / quickly. At least this has been my experience.

Rumor was that Samsung was prohibiting photos of their booth - so no pics will be forthcoming in our report - not wanting to have my camera confiscated.

THe only time I got asked not to take pix was at a very small booth manned by some Jewish fellows (they had Yarmulkes on, that's the only way I knew). THey were showing some cheapie LED colored speakers and as soon as I snapped one they came over and told me to stop so I did.

I was going to ask them about their products and promote them, but after that, forget it. I let them know that their actions turned me off and probably cost them business. Oh well...
