I'm using Carpet Tile for my basement and need to build a riser. I'm trying to figure out what to use for the tread on the edge of the riser. I know there are rubber stair treads that can be used, but I would like have something nicer. I've made up the following sketch of what I'm thinking, but don't know how well it will work. Using 3/4" piece of wood I can mill it to form a slight lip over the edge to match the thickness of the carpet tile.

The riser will be slightly radiused on two opposing sides to match the seating. Ideas or thoughts?

Funny you post this. I am going to use the Legato carpet tiles from HD and was wondering the same thing. :) I may use a stair/landing tread like this

Was also thinking of gluing pieces of the tiles that would be near the edge and then stapling under the lip, not sure how well that would work.

Final idea is to maybe use a different color carpet and have it installed on the riser (normal carpet not tiles).

Regarding the Legato...I think you can get standard carpet to match the Legato. I remember seeing that when we first started looking at it for our basement. I hope you still can anyway, because we were planning on using the regular stuff for the stairs, and also I was planning on using it on the riser.

I like that piece. It gives me a different idea. I could put that around the edges & have it polyurethaned. I would then need to add an additional layer of mdf under the carpet tile that butts up against it so that they would be flush & not be a tripping hazard. This would frame my riser nicely and go with the rest of my decor. Thanks!
