I'm having a hard time for some reason finding out on line..... Thanks! Chris Gerhard 01-09-07, 12:12 PM I recall 2nd quarter this year was the date I had read, but I can't find a link now. Since the box set sold really well, I would expect the individual releases soon. The box set was a Rhino release so you might look at the Rhino site for an official announcement soon. Chris Benefactor 01-24-07, 10:26 AM FWIW, the individual releases have been announced on the Doors website. They are single-CD releases of the new "40th anniversary" mixes. The DVD-A discs are discontinued, and will not be offered again, according to Doors management. jlevine31 01-24-07, 02:41 PM That really sucks....for those of us that didn't buy the perception boxed set because we didn't want all 6 releases. Sadly it's another statement that hi-rez just doesn't get any mass priority. Thanks for letting me know Joe Hendrix 01-25-07, 03:49 PM The only reason I was contemplating this box set was for the DVD-A!!! They should offer just the DVD-A's as a discounted box set. That would be awesome. Anyone know where I can get this box set (for less than retail)? I can't find anything under $130. 111R 01-25-07, 10:55 PM Anyone know where I can get this box set (for less than retail)? I can't find anything under $130. Amazon. Joe Hendrix 01-27-07, 11:36 AM Amazon. Thanks. I had been checking there, but I went back after your suggestion, and found a decent deal. Quite a bit to pay still, but I also didn't want to pass up on a chance to own this, either. 111R 01-28-07, 01:20 AM Thanks. Mine arrived from Amazon today. Can't wait to crank them up. Recently moved and need to get my system set up. s2silber 01-29-07, 02:34 PM FWIW, the individual releases have been announced on the Doors website. Why in the world would they do that?  Quank 01-30-07, 10:18 AM Why in the world would they do that?  Especially considering how much they must have spent in studio time authoring and mixing the DVD-A titles. VERY stupid investment. Not only that, but they were only able to get their investment back by a limited release. That is unless someone convinced them it's a dying format or something. I wonder if some Doors fans on forums complained that the DVD-As were trying to milk them of money. If you read Amazon.com reviews of stuff like this, people always say "who needs SACD or DVD-A??" s2silber 01-30-07, 10:28 AM I just don't understand how there wouldn't be at least some money to be made by selling additional disks, even individually, from a series that's already been produced and manufactured. If there was demand for the box set, then there'd be demand for the recordings within it. It doesn't make any sense from a business standpoint. KMO 01-30-07, 10:52 AM I think it's just that record companies are certifiably insane and are attempting to drive themselves out of business. acebreathe 02-04-07, 04:43 AM To me this box set makes no sense. We want the DVD A mix, and not the stereo mix and vice versa. Why put both in one box? Money. How many times do we have to buy the same thing again just to get the one thing that we do want. And still the companies cry the blues because theyaren't making money hand over fist like before. My guess is that they decided one printing for the DVD-a crowd was enough and after that they would go after the upgrade crowd with release of the individual discs in remastered stereo oh excuse me " Advanced Resolution ". If Jim Morrison was around he'd be pissed at the greeed, then again, he'd be old and still competing with Sir Mick and co. Chris Gerhard 02-04-07, 06:01 AM To me this box set makes no sense. I almost always want DVD-A/CD sets to have the CD for the auto and bought this set. If the demand for DVD-A was greater, I think Warner would offer individual DVD-A discs but with minuscule demand, Warner decided to offer a premium priced set apparently with 20,000 quantity produced. It was probably profitable but somebody at Warner or the Doors managment decided the individual DVD-A and individual DVD-A/CD releases were not justified. I don't know who or why and could only speculate but I do know most companies releasing DVD-A and SACD have had a terrible time showing a profit from the releases with few selling well enough at a price high enough to be profitable. Releasing more titles at lower prices wasn't likely the solution to the problem. If only one format existed and it was always released as a premium priced high resolution/CD set, I think a profitable niche market would exist. I think hybrid SACD would make the most sense but DVD-A/CD sets or possibly even DualDisc might have worked although too much of their market decided DualDiscs were bad I believe your conclusion that only the CD or only the DVD-A is desired is way wrong, and you are likely speaking for yourself. The individual DVD-A and single layer SACD releases were the biggest duds in terms of sales. Chris Quank 02-04-07, 02:47 PM DualDisc rocks IMHO. It allows fans to spend a few bucks more to get a release they can listen to "now" on their CD players AND in their normal DVD-Video players and still invest in a technology they feel they are likely to get down the road. Also it's something you can't get by mearly downloading the CD online. I would think with universal SACD/DVD-A players getting so cheap now, which format an aritst releases a title in means little to the newer consumer (I do sympathize for the early adopters though). I also think that once universal HD-DVD/BluRay players get common and cheap, the format war will end like it did with SACD/DVD-A : in a draw. People always bring up VHS vs. Beta, but you couldn't get a universal player for those formats back in the day. Same with MiniDisc vs. DCC or whatever that other format was. Remember when there was going to be a "standard" war between 720p and 1080i? Enough TVs came out that could play both so it didn't matter. But, like you early SACD or DVD-A adopters, I got screwed because my TV only plays 1080i. ;) |
