A buddy of mine just ordered a 37" Viewsonic LCD TV. The TV only has 1 set of component cable inputs. He has a PS2 and Xbox and wants to use component cables for both. He doesn't have alot of money to spend anymore after the tv and stand. Can he use a Y-splitter to hook up both systems at the same time? I know they will work with composite, but what about component?
Thanks!
No, you can't use a splitter. I believe that Radio Shack sells a cheap component switcher.

my gut told me that was the answer but i just had to ask. Thanks man!
I know this is an old post, but it asks my exact question. So I am wondering, why can't you use and RCA Y splitter to split component video?
I just did it and it seems to work ok with one caveat; when the screen goes black it flickers some. Through trial and error I have narrowed it down the the Green cable, it doesn't matter if I use a different cable, different splitter, or different sources, if the green is split it will flicker on... "scene changes". (not sure what to call them)
In my case I have an XBOX and a Wii both going into my component 3 input on my Onkyo Reciever, which is then hook up to my 52" Panansonic HDTV.
I am a cheap bastard, so for the cost of a hardware switch vs. 3 splitters, I will go with the splitters. But maybe someone can explain the flicker?
