I am going to be be purchasing a new TV in August and was hoping for an announcment of a 80+ DPL or LCOS television. Now that CES is virtually over would that have been the only time something of this size would have been introduced this year or is there still a possibility of one coming out in the 3rd or 4th quarter?

I'm not sure what display technology it uses, but here's something in 80"

Not actually rear-projection, but great for a good chuckle ;)

As was I !!
Plan B for me is to buy the Sony 70" SXRD if nothing better comes along by August.
Sounds weird saying I will have to settle for such a nice television ;)
I am still hoping for an answer to my original post as to weather manufacturers often announce new models after CES. Is there still hope?

How about an Optoma Bigvizion at 120? You will not like the price and it can hardly be called a TV. It is a cusomized rear projection solution.

Then there is the 500 pound, $20k+, 82", LCoS Alpha model that Mitsubishi brought out a few years ago.

I think there is still hope. I think Sony makes there announcements later in the year...

I've seen the Mits 82" and wasn't impressed with the pq. I was also hoping that JVC would have a 80" HDila if for nothing more than causing Sony to respond.

the problem is that there is nothing wrong with my set!!! (not really a problem I know!).
But to justify a new one, I'll take a 15" leap over a 5" step from my 65" crt!
