We have a Mits WS-55613 that we purchased in July of 2004. We have been very happy with the quality of the picture. Recently, the TV began to power off at least 3-4 times per day. The green power-on light will remain on, but there will be no picture or sound. In order to restore the picture and sound, we have to turn the power off and then back on. Have any other you heard of this problem? I did experience the TV powering off when we first got it, but Mitsubishi sent me a software upgrade on a CF card and that fixed the problem.

We purchased the extended warranty when we purchased the set (at the time $400 was a lot to pay, but I'm glad we did it now). I called HH Gregg's repair # and setup a time for a technician to come out.

This morning, a technician came out. He began by removing the front grille and an access panel on the front of the TV. He started by tapping around with a screwdriver on the circuit boards that are attached to the guns. He also tapped on some other boards nearby. Of course the TV didn't power off while he was here (does it ever do the problem when the repairman arrives?). He powered off the TV and then pressed the Device and Menu buttons to get a flash code. The code was 1/2 which he said means everything is normal. He told us before he can order any parts/circuit boards that he wants us to get the flash code when the TV powers off again. He checked his computer for info regarding our problem and didn't find anything. He told us to call him back with more info and then he left.

Is this standard proceedure for a repairman to follow? I thought he might do some other kind of testing. Is this a typical visit? I guess I'll check the flash code when it powers off again and call him back. He also said to see if I can access the TV Menu when it powers off.

Thanks for your help!!!

Yes, typical for an intermittent problem. The user needs to provide more information about the problem -error codes, noises, blinking lights.

You must verify/isolate that it is indeed the Tv shutting off, not the source (cable box/tuner/etc) just loosing signal. You must do this by using the Tv remote and/or front panel to try things like menu, volume, channel, input before simply powering it off/on. Does it happen on all inputs/tuners? What is your provider (sat/cable/antenna)? Does it ever do it while watching a DVD?

All this info should be documented by the user. You might even have to wait until it gets so bad that you can make it shut down for the tech.

Thanks, Hammer. The TV actually hasn't shut off today which is surprising. It has shut off with DVDs as well. I guess I'll try to check the error code next time it happens.
