I know this is the Camcorder thread, but I can't find one for Cameras so I will ask here.

When it comes to Digital Cameras, which one is better between the two:

Canon Powershot SD600
Fujifilm FinPix F30

I have narrowed it down to one of those two that I want and am having a tough time figuring out which one is better.

Thanks for any input any of you may have.

I have had both and both and really like Canon. I just bought an SD600 for my mom and it takes very nice pictures, is small and simple to operate. I don't think you can go wrong with it.

Try http://www.dpreview.com/ . It has reviews of *many* digital cameras, including the apparent successors of the two you mentioned. HTH.

I own the Canon S3IS and love it. But it is larger than most want these days. It incorporates the Optical Image Stabilizer. We used a Canon A620 in Europe this Fall and while it was very good the lack of OIS made low light shots more iffy. We traded it in for the S3IS. The 12X zoom on the S3IS is great.

I would recommend the A710IS. It is an excellent camera. The LCD doesn't flip out and allow for the versatility of high and low angled shots that the A620 and S3IS has but it is an excellent camera.

i also have the canon S3IS and the sd800IS and they are both great cameras! if i want a good point and shoot, i use the sd800 and if i want more professional still pics, i use the S3IS...my brother has the sd600 and he is really happy with it too..it takes very nice quality pics...:)

also, if you'd like a good photo printer, i have the hpA717 and it is awesome! its a nice little portable printer with alot of nice features....it also has a 4gb hard drive on it so you can store up to 4000 pictures on it which i find handy...i can clear my memory card till i can go thru all the pics to decide what i want to save and what i dont...and the quality of the pics from this printer are outstanding! they look like the came from a lab....:)

Thanks to all of you for your help. Another reason the Canon SD600 is looking better to me is due to it using an SD card instead of an xD card like the Fuji uses.

When you go to ePinions.com and click on the top 10 digital cameras, the SD600 is #2 (an SLR is #1), and the Fuji doesn't rank in that list, and when you go to Amazon.com the Canon SD600 ranks #1 in "Camera & Photo" and the Fuji ranks #37. Finally when you go to CNET.com and look under "Reviews" then "Digital Cameras", the Canon SD600 ranks #1 under the "Most Popular" section. All of this has to mean something.

Now for the best...trustworthy...web site to buy it from. So far I am thinking about Butterfly Photo or Beach Camera.

Thanks again everyone, for helping me pick the Canon.

B&H Photo & Video is the most trustworthy IMO

I can't believe I forgot about B&H Photo Video, I will get it from them when I am ready.

In the interest of fairness I should probably explain why I am making my choice between the Canon and Fuji that I mentioned at the top of the thread.

A few years ago my Dad got a digital camera (Olympus Stylus 300) that was 3.2mp. It took such nice pictures that when I was ready for one myself I wanted an Olympus Stylus because I knew of it's previous model quality. So this Christmas came and under the tree was the Stylus 1000 (10.0mp) Camera.

Now I am fully expecting this camera to take pictures that are 3x as good as my Dads because his is 3.2mp and mine is 10.0mp. All I have to say is that my camera was almost as good as my Dads, but nowhere near 3x better.

I tried every setting change, ISO setting, resolution, you name it, and the Stylus 1000 produced more noise (static) then the Stylus 300.

*it was purchased through Amazon.com at a site called Adorama, it has been returned and we are waiting for confirmation of the return before we get the new camera.

So then I went to CNET (should have gone there first) and they rated it a 6.8 (out of 10), so I knew it wasn't that I was doing something wrong.

I have heard such amazing things about both the Canon Powershot SD600 as well as the Fuji Finepix F30...producing noiseless pictures (or very close)...that I decided to choose between those two when I made the thread here for some advice.

One other thing I wanted to mention about the two Olympus Stylus cameras, my Dads has a 1/2.5 CCD image sensor, and the Stylus 1000 (that went back) had a 1/1.8 CCD image sensor. Could that have been what the difference was?

I know the Canon SD600 has a 1/2.5 CCD, where the Fuji has a 1/1.7 Super CCD. So maybe the 1/2.5 is better? I always knew CCD was better than CMOS, but I thought CCD was CCD, I had no idea there were different "versions" (if you will).

I would go for the Cannon, mainly for the SD card advantage.
