I just recently purchased a new PC and Ipod. I was in the process of ripping all my CDs to my PC's HDD. I also installed Zune's software ( and turned on Media Sharing ) as outlined on Microsoft's Xbox website. I was immediately able to access all my ripped music off my PC's HDD. Now, after the new update was just installed on my 360, I can see all my music, including artists, albums and songs, but when I try to play something I get a red circle with a slash through it next to the song. Is it just a coincidence that the update was just installed and did I perhaps change something on my PC inadvertently, or is anyone else having this issue.
Thanks in advance, Aaron

Can you be more specific? Why are you installing the zune software when you have an Ipod? Do you have media player 11 installed? Are you able to connect to view photos or videos from you PC?

When I navigated on my 360 to Media -> Music -> Computer, it told me to go to www.xbox.com/pcsetup. I did this an eventually was told to install Zune. I did so and immediately got access to my photos and music.
I do not have Media Player 11, I have 10.
I actually did some quick research and found a section in Zune's help that lists the digital music types that support sharing to the 360. AAC, which I believe is the default in Itunes, is not listed. So I did a test and changed Itunes settings to rip to mp3, ripped a cd, and sure enough the songs are playable on my 360. I know for 100% certainty that I was able to play my AAC encoded music before the update. Weird. Looks like if I want my music accessable from my PC I will need to restart my ripping and use mp3 as the encoding format. I also tried hooking up my ipod to my 360 and it no longer will let me play AACs.
Am I on drugs, or has something changed with the update?

I have the exact same problem when I tried it tonight after the 1/9/07 update. Something seems to have broken in the "Optional Media Update" download that is supposed to support playback of unprotected AACs. Microsoft's website clearly states it should work for this, and I doubt they intended to take away support for it.

Go to the System blade on the 360. Then down to Computer. Then slecect disconnect from the computer. Then go back to the Media blade and reconnect.
That worked for me.

Well, after starting up the system today it works. Looks like there was some state that needed to be cleared.
