Man after staying up late digesting the many posts of valuable information here and the countless vists to to stores we finially purchased our set. We bought a 56” Samsung HL-S5687W. As I was looking at Plasma’s before I was very interested in the break in and burn in procedures. With a DLP it is unclear to me if that is still necessary. Would someone please set me straight on this?

Now I need to narrow down a DVD player and we are ready to start enjoying. So back to post searching.

Congrats on your purchase. There's nothing you need to do to break-in the set (and no burn-in problems with DLP, either). You should get a calibration DVD, such as AVIA or DVE (at amazon.com) once you get your DVD player to optimize your basic settings. Check out the Oppo 970 for an upscaling player with excellent value, or the Toshiba A2 HD-DVD player that upscales SD DVDs and plays HD-DVDs as well.

Thanks Bill I will order one of those tomorrow. I actually considered going right to the HD-DVD because of the price but was a little unsure with the 2 outputs. So which upconversion would be better for my 1080p on the A2, the 720p or the 1080i? The XA1 is about the same price too.
