Recently my 42" rear projection LCD Sony KDFE42A10 started having a certain problem. I have my HTPC hooked up through the VGA port on the back of the TV and often watch downloaded TV shows through it. Lately the display showing what input it is on (video 7) is repeatedly popping up on the screen and going away all on its own. At first it would just stay up for a secord or too but now it is up there almost constantly. It goes away for a couple of seconds and comes back up. I'm worried that my VGA input is going bad n the TV. Is that possible?

Here is what I have tried so far?
1. Replaced batteries in the remote because I knew they were dying, thought that might be the cause.
2. Hooked up a different computer thinking it was a video card going bad.
3. Turned the TV off and Powered it back on.
4. Tried a different VGA cable.

None of those had any effect. I'm going to shut the TV off and unplug it tonight and hope it resets itself or something. Now if it is a dying vga port, is this something I can replace myself? I am fairly tech saavy and have been tinkering with computers along with building my own and have a BS in IT.

Any insight would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

I've seen this issue on the AVS forum before, are you using an antenna? If so disconnect it. It has something to do with a ground loop.

What lastplace suggested may be your problem. However, I will relate my experience with the predecessor to your set. I have the KDF 42WE655. Shortly after I bought it in July 05, random popups of the "Display" function started to happen. The display would stay on for a while then automatically turn off...or I could just hit the "Display" button and turn it off. In my situation, I had nothing connected via VGA. After my third call to the Sony tech line, I reached someone who actually knew what the problem was. He told me "you have a bad B board". He ordered the new (upgraded) B board to be sent to the local authorized Sony repair facility and authorized an in home repair under factory warranty. He said they would call me to set up an appointment. The repair facility called the next day an set the appointment. I took about 45 minutes to replace the B board. It's been over a year since this repair and I have had no further problems.
