Hello all, great site! I have just made the decision to purchase a Sony KDS50A2000. This will be a big step up for us because we've been watching a 32" Hitachi for 10 years. After all the research it just seems this TV is the one everyone promotes.
My question though is with a DVD player to go with it! I'm still learning about this stuff so bear with me, but I'm under the assumption that the TV I'm getting has an HDMI Input and I thought I heard somewhere along the line that I can upgrade to a DVD player that "upconverts" the signal via 1080i with HDMI cable??

Can someone shed some light on this noob? And if so can anyone reccomend a good cost effective player?

Thanks.

I bought a Sony NS75H upconverting DVD player at Best Buy for $129. It has an HDMI output and I am very happy with the picture quality it produces on my Samsung HLS4676S connected to the TVs HDMI input. It upconverts to both 720p and 1080i.

You don't say how much you want to spend, but for $400, you can get the Tosh A2 HD-DVD player. It upscales regular DVDs, plus plays true high def DVDs (HD-DVD).

If you can possibly afford the Tosh. HD-DVD player I'd highly recommend it--has better upconversion than many 1k plus high end brand upconverting players. The Sony previously mentionned would be a very good low cost alternative.
