I drove down to Mountain View today to pick up my Oppo (Oppo is based in the Silicon Valley, where I live) and have it hooked up. I've got some calibrating to do, but in the mean time, there's a little problem. I've hooked the HDMI cable from the deck to the TV but none of the DVDs will upconvert, not even to 720p.

I have a Toshiba 52HM84, which has HDMI and does 720p and 1080i. I see 1080 images all the time from my HD cable. But this thing won't upconvert any DVDs. I've tried everything, RTFMed the DVD and TV manuals, no luck.

Any suggestions?

Call Oppo? They are really helpful.

Yup, will do that in the morning.

Playback must be stopped in order to change the resolution on the player. Make sure you try that. Just push stop and then start cycling through the resolutions.

Thanks rvanya, that did the trick. However, in a quick test of a few flicks, I saw no appreciable difference in video quality at all. :\ But I've yet to calibrate it with DVE. So we'll see.
