OK I just received my 5687 from PC Richard yesterday ($1,900) but will not have the upgraded HD satellite and receiver from DirecTV until February unless there are cancellations before then.

So i hooked up the TV as follows: there's a connection from my existing DirecTv satellite (non HD) to the back of the DirecTV receiver and then a connection from the back of the receiver to the back of the TV, the Ant 2 in (air) connection.

Although i realize its not HD, the picture is not as clear as i thought it would be, in fact its a little distorted, and not as crisp as my previous 5 year old TV. The colors are more vibrant however.

Question: Do I need to wait until I get the HD satellite and receiver hooked up to get the clear picture for both HD and Standard tv or should i still get a very clear standard tv picture now?

Thanks

SD broadcasts look mediocre on every HDTV, especially from sateliite (very compressed signal). Can you get HD broadcasts over the air with an antenna in the meantime? Also, is there a way to hook up component or HDMI cables between your receiver and the display?

1) don't use the coax connection between the sat box and the tv
2) the problem with a great tv is that it's not so forgiving with a mediocre (in this case, non-hd) signal.
3) out of the box, the tv will look like crap without proper adjustments. You might check the monster thread here regarding your set and it will give you some good starting points for your settings.
4) Do you have a dvd player you can hook up via component and see how that looks? (make sure you get the formatting correct...)
