Since owning this unit, I have tried to get the display to read chapter numbers rather than just pure time info. The setup doesn't seem to allow it and I have had no success with the on-screen menu that can be brought up during playback.
Am I missing something really simple?

Pages 38 and 39 of the operating manual. Press time/text button on remote repeatedly toggle through display options. It also toggles the display on the unit.

Maybe I am still missing something, but does this allow you to get a conventional display, i.e. chapter number on left, elapsed time on right? That's all I ask for and I don't seem to be able to get that.

I don't have access to the manual right now but you can either check the manual or toggle through and see if you get the info you want to display. If I remember correctly, it will display elapsed time for the current chapter but I don't remember if it also displays the chapter number at the same time.
