I know this is a stupid question but how does this work. In order to stream and record TV through the 360 does my XP Media Center Edition have to be hook up to my TV somewhere else? Can my PC just be a stand alone PC not hook up to a TV?
You need to get ethernet to your Xbox either by a wire or wirelessly (although wirelessly can be a pain for streaming video). Your PC sends compressed video through the network to your xbox 360. Your 360 decodes it and send it to your tv the same way it sends game information to your TV, probably component video.

In other words, you are correct that your media center PC does NOT need to be connected to a TV.

Um, yes it does.. The PC is the component that records live tv.. You need a TV Tuner of some kind installed on your PC so it can stream live TV or recorded TV to your 360..

The original question asked if the PC needed to be hooked into his TV = television which it does not need to be.
You are right, however, in that he does need a tuner card of some sort along with an appropiate input into that tuner card (cable, antenna, etc.).
