I saw this at Audioholics, http://www.audioholics.com/ces/CEStransports/DVM-2845CI-dvd-changer.php and was wondering what else anyone heard about it?

I'm interested in that player as well. I was hoping to hear news of some new upconverting changers at CES, but no luck.

There is a photo of the Denon DVM-2845CI here:

Yeah, so was I. Yamaha customer service said they'll probably have a new model but didn't have any info on it.

BTW, Thanks for the pic, good find.

any idea if it will convert PAL dvds for playback on ntsc tvs? I checked Marantz vc6001 manual which says it will. Asking based on new Genesis imports sacd&dvd coming out which will be PAL dvds.

I think the 2930 and 3930 single disc players do, if you apply the region free hack first. Hopefully this changer can do the same.

This DVM-2845CI better have HDMI 1.2a and or Denon Link 3..........for my SACD's.

I have now seen the back of this unit and it does not have Denon Link 3. Does anyone know the HDMI version it will have. If they put out anything less than an HDMI 1.2A output it will be very disappointing. The HDMI 1.1 standard is way out of date and they better not try and supply 1.1. This makes a big difference to me as I want to use a single HDMI cable for DVD audio, and SACD.

Just got the 2845ci from Abt a few days ago.

I've played with it a little but not too much and compare with my Sony 555es.

Think it may sound a little warmer than the Sony. Sony has better features I think.

Denon disc exchange you can only change 2 discs without affecting the one playing. So if disc 1 is playing, you can change 4 &5. Sony you can open the drawer via disc exchange and hit skip disc to access any of the 4 not playing; Denon hitting skip disc after disc exchange will cause current disc to stop. I was really surprised the Denon works this way.

Sony remembers resume point of last 99 discs played so I can stop any disc loaded, skip to another and then come back and resume. Denon only remembers resume for last disc played. Aklthough you can manually store 10 memory point and resume to those.

I spent a few hours wondering why no multi-channel playback on a sacd until i read the manual :-) If you want to play a multi-ch sacd, you have to disable audio over the hdmi (via the setup menu) so sound goes over the 5.1 analog out. So if you want sacd, you have to disable hdmi audio. Not a big deal for me.

No volume level on the remote, so remote only controls the dvd player. Sony, I can a least control the receiver volume.

I love the 30 sec rew and ff on the Sony remote. ALmost like the buttons on my dvr for a quick replay if you missed a conversation or scene.

Phil,
I am really interested in your feedback regarding the video scaling capabilities and the SACD playback capability.
Thanks

I honestly didn't see much difference between the different scaling over the hdmi. I wonder if that is due to the quality of my Sony SXRD XBR set. Since it will upscale any input to its 1080i native resolution, maybe it can take various resolutions and convert them equally well. I also didn't see much difference betwen the 480p output over component from my Sony 555es.

I forgot to note it seems a little slow in loading.

I didn't do alot of comparison of SACD playback between the Sony and Denon. I want to say maybe the Denon sounded a little warmer, but when I have to switch all the 5.1 analog outs from one player to the other, it's hard to compare!

I'm thinking for the $500 for the Denon, I'm not getting enough to make it worth upgrading my Sony, so I will probably send back.

Thanks Phil. BTW, I'm the same guy replying over at HTF... :D

I'm hoping I get a chance to get my hands on one, I think the upscaling to 1080p will be great for me since my display is also 1080p. Also because I'm currently using a 480p player via component. BTW, does the manual say anything about where the crossover is/can be set for multi-channel SACD/DVD-A?

Thanks again.

Thanks for your feedback Phil. The 500 dollar was a good price point for an Upscaling DVD and SACD/DVD-A player. But based on your feedback it looks like its not worth the 500 price tag.

FYI, Marantz makes one that is a 5 disc changer with upscaling, SACD/DVD-A playback. I think the model number is VC6001. But pricey though, 700 dollars.

I was inform that although this is a 5-disk changer, you can't load 5 standard audio CDs and select random play for a party mix. Is this true? With my Yamaha, I can load up the carousel and let 'er' run on randon play which is sweet.

I too dislike the way the disc exchange works but its livable. However you do not have to disable the HDMI audio to play SACDs. You must have the analog connections made also. On The Denon AVR 4306 when you want to play SACD you select ext in and it plays fine and there is no need to play with the menu settings.

As far as the price tag. Not to bad considering that it up scales very well and plays nearly every format including SACD.

I am really surprised there is not more feedback on this unit.

I would like to use it for random playback for party mix.
