Full size fridges on carpet?

I plan on having an older style fridge in my basement.. the kind that look kind of rounded, and painting it with automotive paint to match the decor of the basement.

For those of you who have a full size fridge in the living area of your theater, etc., but do not have a tiled bar area to set it on, what ideas do you have for a platform for the fridge to sit on so that it is not on the carpet, or would you just have it on the carpet?

I've got pretty much the same fridge (60's GE) and I wouldn't put it directly on carpet. I'd prolly put it on a piece of mdf or something similar. That should distribute the weight enough that you won't get really bad marks in the carpet in case you move it etc.

They make those large basins for washing machines on the second floor of homes. I'd try to find one that that fridge would fit in, while still allowing room to open the door properly. If you painted that the same color, no one but you would likely know it was there.

Yeah, the one I had in my last house was a Philco... the insides were pretty much busted up, so I gotta get another one. I couldn't believe the amount of comments that I would get on it, it did look pretty cool. I had painted it with spray bombs from Canadian Tire, it looked ok, but then a buddy of mine who is a body man stole my idea :rolleyes: and painted it with a burnt orange automotive paint and clear coated it. Man did it look great.

Back on topic, at the last house I ended up getting permanent footprints on the carpet, and rust stains from the feet. If I could get a piece of MDF and tile it or something, maybe that would be good enough.

bqmeister, I'll have to do some searching on those basins. If I could find one that fit, It may be the perfect solution. You have to manually defrost those old things and this would prevent any water getting on the carpet.
