View Full Version : 2007 NHL on NBC in HDTV!
I can't find any indication that any of the three regional games that are on Saturday at 2pm ET are going to be in HD, is this true? If so, NBC is really dropping the ball as is the NHL for letting them get away with it. Last year they would have at least one of their regional games be HD... Here's the link to the coverage map if anyone cares http://www.nbcsports.com/download/2007/0110/812660.pdf
Trendy8 01-11-07, 02:40 PM It would be a real shame if none of these are in HD.

According to this, the #1 and #2 games will be available in HD. That's good news.

Thats GREAT news!
I was about to get very upset that NBC was taking a Rangers home game and at the same time taking away HD from the regular MSGHD coverage since it wasn't their #1 game.
Thanks for the info, I wish the NHL would post that on its website which is usually pretty reliable about such things.
kaa1954 01-11-07, 05:48 PM I have posted a poll on the main page & I am hoping you guys will take a minute & vote.
Thanks!
Doolittle 01-11-07, 05:56 PM If it's anything like last year, these games will look awful, HD or no HD.
The Rangers game is exclusive to NBC. No MSG-TV.

NBC has dropped down to only two games a week for the rest of the regular season, therefore everyone gets HD games. Both games dropped involved the NJ Devils.

NBC, NHL Extend Contract
By Jon Lafayette Television Week March 27, 2007
NBC Sports extended its contract with the NHL through the 2007-2008 season.
The arrangement continues as a revenue-sharing partnership, rather than a more traditional rights fee deal. NBC also has an option for the 2008-09 season.
Next season NBC will add flexible scheduling, which will allow the network to make last-minute changes in which game is being broadcast on Sunday afternoons. On nine Sundays, NBC will get to select from at least three games to broadcast. The other games will be available to local carriers, but later in the day to avoid a conflict.
"Flexible scheduling will always allow us to have the best possible games," Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Universal Sports and Olympics, said in a statement Tuesday. "Nothing could be better for hockey fans, who now will be able to see the best teams and marquee players on national broadcast television each week."
In addition to regular season games on Sundays, NBC will broadcast some playoff games on Saturdays, and games 3 through 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals in prime time.
All games will be broadcast in high definition next season.

except for the ones who have tickets to a game that gets it start time changed.
pappy97 03-27-07, 04:17 PM Yay! Possibly one or two more seasons of only seeing Pittsburg and the NY Rangers in HD on NBC while much better teams get the SD shaft! Yippie!

So no more regional coverage next year. Just one national game each week.
NBC & NHL ANNOUNCE CONTRACT EXTENSION
Published: March 27, 2007
Innovative "Game of the Week" Flex Scheduling Key Component of Extended Deal
NEW YORK -- March 27, 2007 -- NBC Sports and the National Hockey League today announced an extension of their revenue sharing partnership through the 2007-08 season highlighted by a new, innovative "Game of the Week" flexible scheduling component. The deal includes an NBC option for 2008-09. The joint announcement was made today by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Universal Sports & Olympics.
"Flexible scheduling will always allow us to have the best possible games," said Ebersol. "Nothing could be better for hockey fans, who now will be able to see the best teams and marquee players on national broadcast television each week."
Bettman said: "In under two seasons, NBC Sports has significantly elevated NHL broadcast coverage in the U.S. We're delighted to have extended our partnership and look forward to next season's scheduling innovation, aimed at delivering the best possible action to hockey fans."
FLEX SCHEDULING
The NHL will offer flexible scheduling for NBC's nine regular season dates.
NBC will be able to select from a minimum of three games scheduled on Sunday afternoons. Thirteen days prior to the scheduled games, NBC, in conjunction with the NHL, will select one of those games as the "Game of the Week" to be broadcast during the NBC window. The other games will remain available to the teams' regional carrier (not to be televised during NBC's broadcast window).
SCHEDULE
Next season, all NBC regular season games will be broadcast on Sundays for the first time and all games will be presented in high definition. NBC will broadcast postseason games on select Saturdays and Sundays, and Games 3-7 of the Stanley Cup Final in primetime, as with the current deal.
"THE NHL HAS NEVER LOOKED OR SOUNDED BETTER"
NBC's NHL coverage has received critical acclaim, earning praise for innovations such as "Inside the Glass," a reporter position between the teams' benches first introduced by NBC hockey producer Sam Flood. ESPN.com said of NBC's hockey coverage, "the NHL has never looked or sounded better in its free, on-the-air history." The Hockey News called "Inside the Glass," "the biggest innovation to hit televised hockey in recent years." " Hockey has found a network that will let the sport be the sport," said the San Jose Mercury News.
On May 19, 2004, NBC and the NHL announced a two-year agreement on a partnership for NBC to televise NHL games.

I am glad of this, I will miss the next two Devils Sunday games since NBC decided they don't want to carry them and because of their exclusive window, the local carriers can't show the game either. At least next year this won't happen.
All games may be in HD next season but that doesn't mean they will be shown in HD. NBC Chicago hasn't shown a game in HD yet this season. WMAQ is there to remind us that Chicago is not a hockey town in case we think otherwise.

Actually Fox Sports NY WILL carry the next two Devils Sunday games. [Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday].
3pm pregame, 3:30pm game time.
It's official as of yesterday.
Thanks for the info, I didn't think this was going to happen. I'm glad to be wrong :D
