Hello,

i've got the alpine F1 head, which sounds good and works well... but I would like sacd and dvda in the car (2 channel).

Is there any head unit that sounds as good as the f1, and also has sacd and dvda?

There are a few that play DVD-A made by JVC and Alpine. No one makes an SACD head unit that I'm aware of. It's a shame, but the formats were just never popular enough to constitute support in car audio. Incidentally, Acura has a couple of vehicles with OEM DVD-A capable head units.

Pioneer also makes one that plays dvda, though its my experience if you go with an 8 volt eclipse, you wont notice the difference between high def audio and a normal cd.

Of course almost all dvd players will play the normal audio tracks of a dvda, I have never seen a sacd player in car, though I would assume if anyone did make one it would of been sony.

Anyway, thanks for the info. Sucks no one makes high quality (or any) universal hi res head units

The Alpine IVA-w200 plays DVD-Audio (2-channel down-mix).

Sony just announced three units that will play SACD, two sport multi-channel as well. No DVD-A but they will play Dolby Digital.

I doubt your going to find a player that plays SACD or DVD-A that is better than the F1...

Or, if you want full multichannel DVD-A, you could go with the uber expensive Alpine F#1 Status stuff. The DVI-9990 headunit and PXI-H990 processor allow full DVD-A over an Ionbus connection, basically a more encrypted proprietary firewire. It will give you a 3 way front output, center, surround left and right and sub along with proper crossovers to do it and 31 band GEQ on all channels. Also, Sony car audio with the exception of the old XES line is garbage.

Hey

2 Channel dvda and sacd is what I'm looking for... I only run speakers up front.

I have the 7990 F1 (previous model) which doesn't play DVDA - I know the new one does, but I have a lot more SACDs than dvda's.

Thanks for the sugg. about the sony - good at least something has sacd support, but I don't like sony heads... every one i've seen has been cheaply made and pretty bad sounding

the pioneer 4100 DVD looks like it will play DVD-A, but I am not sure in what context. SACD would be great, I have way more SACD discs, but I haven't found anything yet.

my pioneer avic z1 plays dvda, I have the beatles trillogy in regular cd and dvda and what a freaking differance, the dvda is 1000 times better. I also think my unit plays super audio cd but i dont have any to check playback, if your in jacksonville fl you could come by and try it out.
