View Full Version : Headphones with Bass
stalker23 01-11-07, 03:34 PM I just bought some sennheiser headphones (the 280 pro's) and i knew they lacked bass to some degree, but these things really have no bass.
Are there any headphones out there for under 100 that put out good bass for liteningto hip-hop, and rap?
thanks
VicAjax 01-11-07, 03:48 PM for just a tad over $100, you can get Ultimate Ears super.fi 5EB... they're IEMs with an overgrown bass driver and seriously boosted low end:

stalker23 01-11-07, 07:12 PM thanks, but im looking for closed, over the head headphones (sorry for not stating that before) like the ones i thought would be good.
VicAjax 01-11-07, 08:52 PM in fact, the 280 is a very good closed can for the money, with a pretty flat bass response down to 30Hz or so. but if you want something a bit bassier, try the AKG 24P... closed, portable and about 50 bucks. you're probably best off asking the knowledgeable and good folks over at www.head-fi.org
stacker45 01-13-07, 01:33 PM Grado sr60 or sr80,can't go wrong with that

Grados are fantastic, but they're open, not closed, and certainly not bassy. in fact, if anything i'd characterize the Grado sound as forward and tilted toward the treble. great for rock, not necessarily for hip hop.
Raymond Leggs 01-17-07, 05:45 PM BUy a pair of Coby headphoes at the dollar store for two bucks.
Better yet get a Pair of Emerson Headphones for three
or 14 bucks for a pair of Coby Noise canceling headphones! Now you can walk into traffic without hearing it! :D
legbone 02-06-07, 11:35 PM for over the head cans there is only one king of bass! that is byerdynamics. i recommend the dt-770pro-80 if you don't have a headphone amp.
edit: sorry, i just saw your budget, nevermind!
PULLIAMM 02-07-07, 08:03 AM Plenty of headphones are capable of audibly reproducing deep bass, but none can give you physical impact. For that, speakers are required.
FWIW my Sennheisers, which are walkman-style and cost $65, are rated to 15hz (and sound like it.)

what is walkman-style? do you know the model # of your cans?

walkman-style means small, lightweight, and portable (but not earbuds.)
Model # is PX 100W (had to look it up.) I only use headphones when speakers are impractical, but these sound great.

i have the PX100 too, as my office cans. they are indeed fantastic for the money. apparently the newer ones have a slightly different sound signature than the original PX100... less basy, i think (mine are about 3 yrs old).
if you have the older version, i highly recommend picking up a pair of the HD414 (http://shop.sennheiserusa.com/retail2002/ProductDetails.aspx?direct_cat=Parts&direct_prod=019545) pads for 4 bucks. they really widen the soundstage and even out the FR. with this cheap tweak, i even prefer them to the Grado SR60.
i don't know how the HD414 pads sound with the newer PX100, but if you don't mind blowing a fiver, it may be a worthwhile experiment if that's the version you've got.
Maximum7 02-14-07, 04:48 PM Koss Porta Pros. Very good bass. The rest of the freq. spectrum sounds good too. Very comfortable and can be found for around 30-40 on-line. Also voted one of the best headphones under a $100.00.
