TwinTurboJosh 01-12-07, 12:59 AM Doh. I already own the 2 I want
Special FX_45 01-12-07, 01:00 AM Is there a link to this ad? Also, are you sure that this deal implies towards Blu-ray?
G-force 01-12-07, 01:01 AM I'm in!
Yeah, are you sure this is BD? If so they usually mark the prices up so high it's not much of a sale.
I'd like to pick up Monster House and Black Hawk Down, but if they charge like $40+ for Monster House it won't be much of a deal.
GamerGuyX 01-12-07, 01:09 AM So on what day exactly does the sale start?
BTBuck1 01-12-07, 01:16 AM Crapz0rz...I have all of those!!!
rdodolak 01-12-07, 01:19 AM Yeah, are you sure this is BD? If so they usually mark the prices up so high it's not much of a sale.

Since these titles have already been released, the sale would start on Sunday.
hassoon 01-12-07, 01:24 AM Kung Fu Hustle + Black Hawk Down
Click + Monster House
YES YES YES YEW DA MAN!!! :D
Thanks for the heads up :) !!!
xbdestroya 01-12-07, 01:29 AM I guess I could stand to add House of Flying Daggers and Kung Fu Hustle to my collection.
Black Hawk Down is obviously a must for anyone that doesn't yet own it.
GamerGuyX 01-12-07, 01:33 AM I guess I could stand to add House of Flying Daggers and Kung Fu Hustle to my collection.
I would think even free is to much to pay for House of Flying Artifacts on Blu-ray.
GeorgeLV 01-12-07, 01:38 AM Hmm, I already have BHD, Click, and Talladega Nights thanks to picking them up used at GameStop.
I guess I'll go Underworld: Evolution (not a good movie, but I can use my PS3 rebate) + Monster House.
Kung Fu Hustle is apparently censored and the House of Flying Daggers is known around here as the House of Flying Artifacts, so I'll probably resist the temptation to splurge.
Ah CRAP!!!
If only this offer would be good next week with AvP coming out...
AVP and Underworld II...thank you very much, you can put the receipt in the bag... ;)
JaylisJayP 01-12-07, 01:42 AM I think I might get BHD X2 and try to trade 1.
UxiSXRD 01-12-07, 01:45 AM Doh. I already own the 2 I want
Yup.
These 7 titles
Houst of Flying Daggers
Black Hawk Down
Kung Fu Hustle
Monster House
Click
Talladega Nights
Underworld 2
Skip Flying Daggers and Talledga Knights. These two are among the worst Blu ray PQ release. The rest should be fine.
BTW this is a HOT deal.
xbdestroya 01-12-07, 01:55 AM I would think even free is to much to pay for House of Flying Artifacts on Blu-ray.
You know, I know it might sound crazy... but sometimes I buy movies because I like them and not because of PQ alone. ;) For what comes to $12.50 each, I can handle the artifacts.
The exact reason why Underworld isn't explicitly on my list for example, is that I'm just not totally into that film.

Talladega actually has good PQ - we're not talking the Sony pack-in here.
Dave Mack 01-12-07, 02:07 AM I heard the Pq was identical for the Talladegas', no?
xbdestroya 01-12-07, 02:58 AM I heard the Pq was identical for the Talladegas', no?
No, where'd you hear that? One's a BD25, one's a BD50.
darinp2 01-12-07, 03:00 AM No, where'd you hear that? One's a BD25, one's a BD50.I haven't compared them, but I'm not sure that it mattered. The BD50 included extras and was a different cut of the film. I don't think it looked that good on the BD50 version I watched, so the master or the way they tried to make it look could have been limiting here. I don't think I'm a fan of shooting digitally and then trying to make it look like film from a couple of instances I've seen where it seems like that is what they did.
--Darin
Dave Mack 01-12-07, 03:00 AM all the people who reported in another thread that they looked identical.
Just because something's on a BD50 it doesn't make the PQ better or different.
DaGamePimp 01-12-07, 03:01 AM Cool , thanks for the info !
I hope to grab BHD and Underworld Evo .
I wonder if other stores will match this deal , I hate giving BB any of my money ;) .

You dont watch Underworld for the film, you watch it for Kate! ;)

Well sure, true - but my understanding was that everyone who actually bought the film said the PQ was excellent.
Oh well whatever; this shows how even in a small world, confusion can reign. ;)
For me it doesn't matter either way, as I've got the PS3 version and that's the only version I'll ever own of that film (though I enjoy it).

OK guys, the only difference I've noticed between the 25GB and the 50GB disc is that the retail 50 averages about 2-3MBPS higher which is because all of these discs are variable bitrate so even though the transfer is the same, during encoding they just allowed for a slightly higher disc capacity. Most of the rest of the 50GB disc capacity is going to the PCM soundtrack which is not on the 25GB disc.
As far as brightness, color saturation, etc, it's the exact same on both discs. I checked quite a few scenes back to back and got the same image, with a slightly higher bitrate on average and I'm doubting the bitrate difference is enough to make a noticeable difference. The PCM soundtrack is probably the most notable addition to the 50GB disc.
So there you have it guys, the 50GB disc is so close to the 25GB disc in image quality, you won't be able to tell the diffference. If you want the PCM soundtrack, get the 50GB, otherwise for those of you with the 25GB, just keep it, you're not missing anything. Technically the 50 is a superior disc with better audio...
I think they're pretty close. I had the freebie, watched it and then sold it. With the exception of a few shots of the crowds at the race track in the longshot, most of the film looked VERY flat, soft and filtered. A very "processed" look. After watching Kingdom of heaven, was like going back to SD IMHO.
:)
Dave Mack 01-12-07, 03:13 AM oh, and Kate rules but I actually like the first Underworld alot.
No, I know it wasn't high art, instead of a steak, more like a good cheeseburger. But every now and then you just want a cheeseburger!
:)
WriteSimple 01-12-07, 04:58 AM So I assume safely that if you pick a US$29.99 title, you can pick any of the 7 titles, but if you pick a US$24.99, you can only pick one of the three in the US$24.99 pile, yes?
I guess I'll have to figure out which combo will work best.

provenflipper 01-12-07, 07:18 AM I wish I didn't already have all of these movies. :(
Assayer 01-12-07, 07:32 AM Thank you, OP! You caught me just before I bought three of these online for considerably more!
MarcoAD 01-12-07, 07:35 AM Monster House & Kung Fu Hustle for me, thanks for the heads up...
space2001 01-12-07, 07:39 AM any news if this is coming up to canada
xradman 01-12-07, 07:46 AM I'll get everything except BHD. Already have that one. We need sales like this to become more frequent.
Samfield 01-12-07, 08:37 AM OP, thanks for the heads-up. I'm in for Monster House and Underworld Evo.
I don't own House of flying Daggers are Kung FU Hustle so I may attempt them. If the picture is bad though it may still be unsettling.
How is Kung fu hustle as a movie in general?? I think I will pick up this one and click as the rest I pretty much have and I don't want house of flying artifacts. You people that are getting underworld, get ready for a treat, Kate in HD is amazing :D. Now that I think about it since I am getting Click Kate will be in HD again, Nice!!!
So is the sale going on RIGHT NOW or does it start on the 14th??
Edit: It starts on the 14th
tracemhunter 01-12-07, 08:50 AM BHD and Underworld for me as well as Crank, Goodfellas, and Resident Evil (at normal prices). Thanks for the heads-up, and for the help in emptying my wallet.
This is sweet... I will be getting Click and BHD... I don't care much for BHD but it will be a good demo disc.

Kung-fu Hustle is awesome. Funny as hell, great action scenes and some damn good special effects. Even though it's rated R, it is different from the Asian cut since for some reason they decided to digitally remove a couple of blood shots and a scene where a piece of **** is shown has been removed, but other than that the violence is intact.
Too bad I already have most of those titles :(, but it still a great deal.
Yesss!!!! I will be looking a Black Hawk Down for sure, with an option for Monster House and Kung Fu Hustle as my second.
wishman35 01-12-07, 10:00 AM this is called you get buy one of the advertised ones and just bring it back for something of equal value. or you could just bring it back with a receipt and get one for free!
SirDrexl 01-12-07, 10:18 AM aww man i just bought BHD
Yeah, me too, but the only other title I'd buy would be Monster House.
Maybe I should cancel the order since it hasn't shipped.
TheAxeMurderer 01-12-07, 10:23 AM I'll be picking up Kung Fu Hustle and Black Hawk Down. Thanks for letting us know!
So one could buy click and Underworld, get one free and take advantage of the 10.00 rebate to boot making that a two for 20.00 deal if I have it right. 10.00 a piece isnt bad.
vincentnyc 01-12-07, 10:51 AM According to DVDTalk.com (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=488953&page=1)
quick question..if u buy a movie from the $24.99 list...can u get 1 free from the $29.99 list?
let say i get blackhawk down which cost $24.99, can i get underworld free which cost $29.99?
FrankJ.Cone 01-12-07, 10:54 AM You dont watch Underworld for the film, you watch it for Kate! ;)
But the quality is so high we see Kate's imprefections :(
During many closups Kate appears to be wearing something similiar to join compound for makeup...
MarcoAD 01-12-07, 10:55 AM Usually it's Vice Versa. Free one has to be of Equal or lesser value. Your still getting two titles for $30, so I don't see a big deal in having to buy a $29.99 title to get a $24.99 FO FREE...

I heard somewhere that Kung Fu Hustle doesn't work in the PS3. Can anyone confirm/deny that?
I've had no trouble playing my copy with my PS3.
Seems like it'll Click and Monster House for me.
@Fett: I haven't experience any issues with KFH in my PS3
evenodds 01-12-07, 11:35 AM Too bad I picked up Underworld and Click last weekend. I would get House of Flying Daggers if it wasn't for the horrible PQ reviews.
Dr Kain 01-12-07, 11:36 AM Well, I guess I'll be getting Underworld Evolution, but what should I get for my free movie? I don't care about Talladega Nights, Flying Daggers, or Kung Fu Hustle. Monster House or Black Hawk Down? Which is better in both quality and as a movie?
IMO, Black Hawk Down in both respects. Monster House is no slouch though, it's does have a nice adult tinge to the movie itself and PQ & AQ is great. Of course you don't get torsos laying on the ground either.
Ya, my wifes pretty sensitive to seeing starved dead bodies of children laying all over the dirty ground of Somalia, and this is all that BHD consisted of in the opening scene. But the movie is excellent as well as the pq, just fast forward through this part if you have a wife.
JosephShaw 01-12-07, 12:19 PM How is Kung fu hustle as a movie in general??
Kung Fu Hustle is the Loony Toons of Kung Fu movies. It looks great and is a funny story. The only downside is that they did edit out some of the blood.
longshot 01-12-07, 12:22 PM Where does Kung Fu Huatle rank in terms of PQ? Reference, middle of the pack or down with Click?
b.greenway 01-12-07, 12:23 PM I heard somewhere that Kung Fu Hustle doesn't work in the PS3. Can anyone confirm/deny that?
Works fine in mine.
Where does Kung Fu Huatle rank in terms of PQ? Reference, middle of the pack or down with Click?
I thought Kung Fu Hustle was reference... definitely top of Tier 1.
Im thinking about Talledega Nights for sure as I love anything w/ Will Farrel, and wondering as a movie how is House of Flying Daggers? The pq cant be that bad on bd cant it?
I haven't seen HoFD on BD yet, but I enjoyed the movie itself a lot.
JosephShaw 01-12-07, 12:36 PM I thought Kung Fu Hustle was reference... definitely top of Tier 1.
The Tier System for Blu-Ray PQ thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=753726) lists Kung Fu Hustle as a top of Tier 1 title. I own it, and can attest to that. It looks really, really good.
And in response to it having problems on PS3s, I had no problem playing it back on my PS3 before or after I did the 1.30 -> 1.31 firmware upgrade.

I work at Best Buy.
this is called you get buy one of the advertised ones and just bring it back for something of equal value. or you could just bring it back with a receipt and get one for free!
No, you have to get one of the 7 and you have to purchase them on same receipt.
Porscheboy16 01-12-07, 12:45 PM Can you double dip on the rebate? Do you have to pay for both titles on the rebate?
Example:
-I buy Click and get Underworld Evolution for free. I get two copies of the same receipt from the store. I send in the two rebates, and I get $20 back.
Could this happen? If so, you can get two movies for $10 net.
wishman35 01-12-07, 12:48 PM well of course i will buy them on the same receipt...but the receipt will say
Blu Ray Movie 24.99
Blu Ray Movie 24.99
Disc -24.99
---------------------------
so in turn...i will either bring back one of the 24.99 movie because the only good ones of those 7 i already have...and i will just get another one.
The receipt wont say $0 for one of the movies...it will have a minus 24.99
i know half the kids at best buy and they will just let me make an even exchange.
tooskinneejs 01-12-07, 01:39 PM For those of you who bought a BD-SP1, there is a $10 rebate form for Monster House. I wish it was in the rebate forms found with the PS3.

Oh. Sorry about that man. Thanks for the good info! I'm definitely picking up some of these!
Yeah I thought I'd share this info with people because I know these Blu-Ray movies ain't cheap right now. This gives people the option to get a movie and then sell one on ebay or whatever.
i know half the kids at best buy and they will just let me make an even exchange.
I mean that all depends on who you talk to basically.
Dammit, I just got Monster House and Underworld Evo.
I have 4 of those already, so i'd have to pick two between Click, Flying Daggers and Kung Fu.

ur wife rather see someone got blown up in half and in the head instead of starving children?
Nahhh, she didn't watch it after the beginning part, but I must say that a starved innocent child is far more depressing then a soldier being blown up, though thats no good either. Its just the fact that the innocent child has no choice and the world has turned cold against him. How often do you see people dying and getting killed in movies vs. seeing a dead, starved child?? We have become immune to the killing in theaters, but seeing a dead child still rubs more people in the wrong way.

You won't be disappointed.
Dr Kain 01-12-07, 05:44 PM The only thing I'm worried about is getting Underworld Evolution and then having Sony announced in 2 weeks the Extended Cut.
Special FX_45 01-12-07, 06:02 PM Hey Elbie,
quick question. In my area, there is a decent amount of selection of BD movies at the Best Buy near me. The movies that I wanted to get with this sale are actually in stock at the Best Buy near me, BUT there are not that many copies. 2 at max of each of the ones that I want. Now, if I purchase these BDs today or tomorrow(Saturday), can I get a price adjustment on Sunday as long as I bring the receipt with me? Reason being is that I do not want to wait until Sunday and luck out on getting a good title. Please let me know. Thanks again for the BD sale heads up!
Also, this sale is happening at every Best Buy in the nation correct?
cheezycheech 01-12-07, 08:54 PM I just checked BB near my office at lunch time. They don't have half of what's on sale. I guess I'll have to hit up the one by my house early to take advantage of the sale. Let's hope they have alot in stock. I wonder if you can do rainchecks? Thanks for the headsup!

That all depends on the store to be honest. Also, with most sales for DVD's we usually get them and keep them in the back until the sale begins. You should be able to do rainchecks also because from what I remember it didn't say anything about no rainchecks.
GamerGuyX 01-12-07, 09:59 PM So how exactly do we go about this deal? I'm assuming if we bring up two of the eligible titles it will automatically give you one for free? Or do you have to say something or bring in the flyer?

So how exactly do we go about this deal? I'm assuming if we bring up two of the eligible titles it will automatically give you one for free? Or do you have to say something or bring in the flyer?
When you go to check out the register will automatically recognize the deal and it will come up on the screen. You shouldn't have to mention wnything, but just be sure it does come up. What BB has done lately for price reductions/freebies is to spilt the difference of the sale item between all the other items on the receipt. So if you pick up say Black Hawk Down and Kung-Fu Hustle (both $25) for the BOGO deal. The receipt will show $12.50 for each.
When you get the items and take it to the register and they hit total there will be a popup stating that you get one free.
GamerGuyX 01-12-07, 10:59 PM Ok thanks guys. :)
michael000 01-13-07, 07:07 AM There's a 10% off regular priced movie game yada yada coupon from the 12th-15th. Anyone know if that's usable with this deal? I ask because i've got no clue if 24.99 and 29.99 are the regular prices for these, would sweeten the deal even more if they are.

The catch phrase "Markdowns taken from regular prices" on the coupon usually prevents this from happening.
Yeah, the 10% off coupon won't work with these.
What about pricematching? Will they match Target (like they always do for me) and THEN do buy one get one??

Well, I guess I'll be getting Underworld Evolution, but what should I get for my free movie? I don't care about Talladega Nights, Flying Daggers, or Kung Fu Hustle. Monster House or Black Hawk Down? Which is better in both quality and as a movie?
I think BHD is a fantastic movie. I got a PS3 yesterday and finally got it hooked up around midnight (we finally got a babysitter :D ). I cranked up the projector, put in BHD, and watched almost the entire movie after checking out the picture quality for a bit. I had forgotten how intense this movie is. It's not a particularly "fun" movie to watch, but it should be in most movie libraries. Good picture, great sound.
michael000 01-13-07, 11:36 AM The catch phrase "Markdowns taken from regular prices" on the coupon usually prevents this from happening.
Actually these are regular price (and about $5 more than you'd find them for about everywhere online, go BB!).
Double checked the coupon though and it says not good with any other offers or something like that so throw that idea to the wind heh.
Malcolm_B 01-13-07, 12:54 PM BHD and Monster House for me...need something for the family in there.
JaylisJayP 01-13-07, 05:50 PM Will BestBuy.com honor this deal?
I saw the ad with 7 movies...I want BHD....not interested in the rest...they have other BluRay movies I want but only 7 listed as for sale....weak...perhaps I'll sell the other on ebay.
The poor initial pic quality of the first way of Bluray movies really reduces the list of titles I want to buy...but that will improve and I guess they will reissue some of the botched titles like 5th Element and hopefully House of Flying Daggers.
cavalry12 01-13-07, 09:27 PM Guys, I have a question concerning the rebate booklet that came with PS3. In the terms, it mentions one rebate per movie per studio. Does that mean I can get a total of $30 from one studio since there are three movies per studio on each rebate form?
I'm planning on buying Click and Talladega Nights. Can I send in one rebate form along with the receipt and the two original UPC? I would usually call the rebate center but they are close for the weekend and I'm afraid my local BB will be out of stock on these movies due to this promotion. Thanks
Assayer 01-13-07, 09:36 PM Will BestBuy.com honor this deal?
If it is in the printed ad, Bestbuy will almost always allow you to order it online at the same price. This included most of their prior buy-one-get-one DVD sales in the past. Expect to pay shipping though.

It sounds to me that you're entitled to one rebate per studio.
cavalry12 01-13-07, 10:05 PM You're right. I just did a quick google search and it took my to the rebate website which mentions of one rebate per movie studio.
Well, I was right next to Best Buy while running errands and I went in. They had one copy of Click, and one of Monster House, so I bought them.
Girl said just come in tomorrow with only the receipt and I will adjust it to give you one for free :)
She gave me her name and everything and was a manager, so it's all good. At least now I don't have to worry aout the two movies I want not being there when I arrive ;)
BOSS10L 01-13-07, 11:58 PM Already own most of those, but Click and HOFD will be bought Sunday. Thanks for the heads up!

That's exactly what I did last night. Copies of BD are limited at some Best Buys near me so I bought them early. I bought 6 of the 7 BD movies that are going on sale and will be bringing in my receipt on Sunday to get credit for my 3 free movies! :)
Are the King fu movies worth 12 bucs a piece?
I just placed an order online with in store pick up. Better do it fast if you want to save on shipping because some titles were already out of stock for my local store and it's only 1:00AM...
Crap, BHD sold out everywhere near me.
Just picked up BHD and Kung Fu Hustle. Only two of my local BB's had copies of BHD and I had to choose one a little more out of the way than I normally am used to, but I will be out that way on Monday, so it works out.
Just ordered Underworld 2 and Click. I don't know if I will keep Click. Kate might be incentive to do so though.
Even if it's not listed in stock online they might have a few on the shelf so if you live nearby you might want to pay a visit tommorow and scan the shelves.
Either way, place your order online as soon as possible and they'll hold it for 8-days.

Basically, never trust what online says about store inventory lol.
tutelary 01-14-07, 02:01 AM Just ordered Underworld 2 and Click. I don't know if I will keep Click. Kate might be incentive to do so though.
I found Click to be really enjoyable.
Looks like i'll just fight the crowds in the AM -- I hope they actually have a few in stock, contrary to what the inventory checker says!
MySassyGirl 01-14-07, 02:06 AM Just visit the store tomorrow morning and get a rain check if it's out of stock. They'll honor the deal. :)
OR
Take the ad and walk over to your nearest Circuit City and get the same deal. They had TONS of Blu-Ray movies in stock.
They finally got all the details up for the offer... here it is:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&id=pcmcat110300050004
IMPORTANT NOTE!!! It will only let you do 2 movies at a time... if you add 4 only 1 wil be $0.00.... if you back it down to 2 movies 1 will be $0.00... so I am taking it as you have to do separate orders. If you do it online.
JaylisJayP 01-14-07, 03:28 AM I ordered BHD and Kung Fu Hustle for In-Store pickup...26 bucks including tax, not too bad.
Just ordered an instore pickup for BHD and kungfu hustle. Thanx for the heads up.
Too bad this deal is not available up here in Canada. Oh well, at least we have more snow and ice (just being an arse)
anyone else have problems ordering four movies online? it would only give me one movie for free. ended up placing two seperate orders...
mixtapem 01-14-07, 09:37 AM guys the BB online store tracker to track if your store has a certain product is WAAAAAAAAAAY off according to BB my store doesnt have anything .. just looked for oblivion its not listed as my store having it yet i got there and they have 12 copies sitting there....the website is hardly reliable.
jsb_hburg 01-14-07, 10:45 AM I'm in too. We're getting Monster House and Kung Fu Hustle. I got it online and WPS should deliver within an hour. WPS = wife parcel service.
HPS encountered one too many fallouts playing GripShift on PS3 last night and is recovering. :D
thebland 01-14-07, 10:47 AM Do you need a coupon for this or can you just walk into BB and pick up the titles?
jsb_hburg 01-14-07, 10:53 AM Do you need a coupon for this or can you just walk into BB and pick up the titles?
No coupon is needed for this deal.
Is this offer valid in Canada?
IeraseU 01-14-07, 11:25 AM Just went into my local Best Buy and they were sold out of everything pretty much, so I ended up having to take advantage of the offer online.
hammer99 01-14-07, 11:26 AM Just got back from Best Buy... I already had all the titles except 3 of them, and got Underworld: Evolution which I really wanted. I just couldn't pull the trigger on Click, no matter how good it may look because that movie is such a drag IMO, so after a few minutes deliberating in the store, my 2nd choice was House of Flying Artifacts, I hope the PQ isn't too bad, I'm encouraged by what I read in the "How Bad..." thread, at least I liked the movie. Surprised to say no other customers were looking at the Blu titles while I was making up my mind... they had all of the sale titles in stock & available (Golden Ring BB in Baltimore).

No wonder those Amazon numbers favor HD DVD!:D

Our BB is sold out of pretty much all HDDVD and BR. they havent got any new stock since christmas
mixtapem 01-14-07, 12:21 PM my BB had only 1 BHD and 5 U:E
needless to say those are the 2 i picked up
Bought Kung Fu Hustle and Monster House ( already have Blackhawk Down and don't care about the rest of the titles on sale), also bought Poseidon for HD DVD since Best Buy was nice enough to put it out early.
Wow, my BB was fully stocked people dont even know about the deal. I picked up House of Flying Daggers and Talladega Nights. Ill be taking Talladega Nights back since I can get it used at a cheaper price, to get X-Men 3 ; )

Oh ya, I guess we could do that couldn't we, take the movie back with out the receipt and get full price credit for the movie since those movies aren't cheap anywhere and then get what ever movie you want with the credit, good idea. Too bad I already opened mine. I got Click and Kung fu hustle. My wife and I liked Click and I haven't seen kung fu hustle, but I hear its good.
MySassyGirl 01-14-07, 01:19 PM For Click, you can get $10 rebate from www.blu-raymovierebate.com. So basically, you're getting it for $5 :)
MySassyGirl 01-14-07, 01:22 PM Are you sure? I believe they need the receipt for return.

Picked up HOFD (the only one from the offer that I didn't have) and Kung-Fu Hustle.
1MaNArmY 01-14-07, 01:33 PM picked up BHD and Underworld Evolution for 29.99! Not bad 15 dollars for a Blue Ray movie and I don't even own a player yet. :D
I couldn't pass up the deal, BB also had 8 PS3 60 GiG in stock. I'll buy one next month.
Got my buy one get one free today PLUS they also took off 10% from the coupon I had so just under $14.00 per disk. NICE
****, I forgot about the coupon this weekend.
beatboy77 01-14-07, 01:46 PM I picked-up Underworld and Black Hawk Down. They even price-matched Underworld with Target, so I got both for $30.08 including tax.
How is Monster House? I may pick that up with Kung-Fu Hustle.
~Josh
Dave Mack 01-14-07, 01:47 PM congrats!
I loved Monster House. Looks and sounds great, plus the movie is enjoyable for adults as well.
lemming75 01-14-07, 01:53 PM Got Monster House, Click, Kung Fu Hustle and yes; House of Flying Daggers, which I don't think it looks THAT bad. But how can I complain when it would have cost more to buy the SD versions! :D
BOSS10L 01-14-07, 02:37 PM Got my BB's last copy of HOFD and decided to get Click. Already had all the others with the exception of KFH, and I'm not so sure about that movie.

That's what I'm saying. 2 movies I don't already own. I only wish they'd made TFE as one of those movies.
Assayer 01-14-07, 02:50 PM Picked up Underworld:Evolution and Monster House. I was agonizing over whether to spring for 'Black Hawk Down' and 'House of Flying Artifacts' but they were sold out so that decided it for me.
GizmoDVD 01-14-07, 02:53 PM I got monster house and talledega nights (barf) for 31.98.
Then i tore the best buy stickers off and returned them to walmart and got their only copy of crank on BR. Crank cost me only 5.39. :D :D :D
Way to ripoff Wal-Mart!
xradman 01-14-07, 02:56 PM Just picked up Underworld Evolution, Talladega Nights, Monster House and Click from local BB for $63 including tax. Went across the street to CC to pickup House of Flying Daggers and Kung Fu Hustle for ~$25 price matching BB. I probably would not have bought any of these discs for what they were originally asking, but it's funny what a sale like this would make me do. I know I've complained about problems with both HoFD and KFH, but for $12.50 each, I can live with the imperfections. UE and HoFD were both double dips for me. KFH was a triple dip for me. I already have the limited HK 2 disc edition, and super limited Korean 2 disc edition with the large hand cast.
I am now up to 27 Blu-ray discs compared to 93 HD DVDs.
Plarodin 01-14-07, 02:57 PM Way to ripoff Wal-Mart!
I didnt rip them off, I was doing them a favor by helping to replenish their very limited stock of blu-ray movies. :p
Doug Schiller 01-14-07, 03:28 PM I got monster house and talledega nights (barf) for 31.98.

Ahh, so you are a theif.
Very nice work.
Apollo 13 01-14-07, 03:39 PM how do you price match with CC? do I buy the movies from BB then take them over to CC with a receipt?
mudfootLgt 01-14-07, 03:47 PM picked up KFH & BHD then the 2nd transaction picked up Click & MH.. I did 2 transactions because if you ring up 2 $25 movies then 2 $30 movies it gives you the cheaper movies for free. So its best to do it seperately
GizmoDVD 01-14-07, 03:50 PM I still have that $10 coupon off UnderWorld...hmmm
bonedaddy77 01-14-07, 03:52 PM Did anybody else's receipt only show one movie? I bought Click and Talledega Nights but receipt only shows Talledega Nights at regular price.
crakerhead 01-14-07, 03:54 PM i was able to pick up kfh and bhd for 19 after discount, helluva deal. i wish i didnt have the other titles already or i'd buy more
AaronSCH 01-14-07, 03:57 PM Just got back from BB with Underworld, Black Hawk Down, Click and Monster House for $59.98. Now I gotta return Underworld to Frys since I purchased it for $24.99 from them just last Friday. Terrific deal but they didn't really seem to be stocked well on any title. Doubt my location will have any of them after today.
cavalry12 01-14-07, 04:04 PM Just picked up Underworld and Monster House. I'm going to put the PS3 movie rebate to some good use with this deal. I wasn't sure about Monster House, but I read some reviews online and checked the tier thread and I think it will make a nice addition to my collection.
johngonzalo21 01-14-07, 04:07 PM i had a $20 reward zone certificate. Click and Kung fu hustle are the only ones i did not have from that list..after the b1,g1 free offer and 20 certificate redemption i paid $ 9.81...and took both..believe me i would have gotten 2 other movies but for that deal i guess i cant pomplain..
Click & kung fu hustle=$9.81
My Collection thus far is....
Crank
Lady in the Water
Ice Age:the meltdown
The wild
Superman Returns
Terminator 2
Underword evolution
Black Hawk down

I registered to the forum yesterday and I saw this deal. So this is my first post. :p
Just got back from BB, and I got
1. BHD
2. Monster House
3. Click
4. Underworld: Evolution
Tried to get Kung Fu Hustle but no stock in my BB, thanks for the nice info guys. :)

NickFoley 01-14-07, 04:46 PM Saturday night.
JaylisJayP 01-14-07, 05:10 PM I am currently a supporter of both formats, but I have to say this promotion alone could be huge for Blu-Ray....I would expect to see a decent spike in sales between in-store and online purchases. To have a buy 1, get 1 so early into the format's life is a big plus for Blu-Ray.
giantchicken 01-14-07, 05:19 PM I could not take advantage of this offer, because as of this morning when the sale began, my local Best Buy had one copy of Monster House and no copies of any of the other titles featured in the promotion.
Way to be prepared, Best Buy!!!

Doubtful. These are old titles that most people already own, or have no intentions of buying. Theres no title in there that makes me go 'Wow'.

Kung Fu Hustle was a pretty good flick and has great PQ. Monster House is a good family movie.
And there are a lot of people new to Blu-ray, read PS3; so, these movies may very well be on some people's list to buy.
Azzkker 01-14-07, 05:59 PM i picked up bhd and underworld: evolution. they look great on my tv!
thanks for the heads up on this deal.
RScottyL 01-14-07, 06:42 PM I walked in this morning when my local BB opened up, and picked up 6 of the 7 movies. It was about $91.98 with taxes. The HOuse Of Flying Daggers was the only one I didn't get, due to reports of alot of artifacts.
I plan to get a PS3 this upcoming weekend, and just trying to stock up some movies. This will make a total of 7 movies, so far, as I picked up The Terminator when it was on sale in the summer for about $13 - $15.
Apollo 13 01-14-07, 07:26 PM has anyone tried getting different movies then the ones on the lists?
GizmoDVD 01-14-07, 07:28 PM has anyone tried getting different movies then the ones on the lists?
Its on the 7 movies, not anyone you want. Otherwise it would be Buy 1 Get 1 Free on ALL movies instead of 7.
Tried to get this deal pricematched at Circuit City since BB was out of stock on all titles.
CC said they do not match "offers" and could not give me the same deal.
has anyone tried getting different movies then the ones on the lists?
It won't work because the register computer and UPC's are the combo that notifies the cashier of the BOGO sale and does all the pricing. Bringing up non-sale titles will just scan in at regular prices.

In the summer? Boy that's a lot of confidence in the format, you bought the first movie half a year before getting a player.... ;)
enjoy

My CC matched the offer so YMMV.
apodaca 01-14-07, 09:04 PM Well, I am now holding the ring of power we will see if I pass the test. At Best Buy I found a 20Gb PS3 with Talladega Nights in the box. Black Hawk Down, Underworld Evolution, Kung Fu Hussle, and Click on the 2for 1 sale. I alsmost got the other two, Monster and House of Flying Daggers but heard bad things about the latter. Is the BD version of House Daggers better than the DVD because the DVD version is very out of focus etc.
Dr Kain 01-14-07, 10:05 PM I did the deal with Monster House and Underworld Evolution.
GeorgeLV 01-14-07, 10:07 PM Ended up with Monster House and House of Flying Daggers (I'll take the artifacts over the censorship of Kung Fu Hustle). BHD, Click, and Underworld: Evolution were sold out. As much as I'm pulling for HD-DVD, it's pretty obvious that the format war is over, and Blu-ray has won.
edvedder 01-14-07, 11:52 PM I brought in a price match from fry's and best buy honored it, so i got monster house and kungfu hustle for 24 bucks with tax. Can't beat that deal, wish they did this every week. Remember to bring in your price matches because BB is way over priced on most movies they sell
JosephShaw 01-15-07, 12:15 AM I just picked up Click, House of Flying Daggers, Black Hawk Down, and Underworld Evolution in the deal, as well as a copy of The Wild, as the we desperately needed something PG or below that we could watch as a family.
I went to bestbuy to pick up the ad... they had not one of the movies on the ad in stock as usual. So I went to the CC I mentioned in another thread and they have every BD in stock that is released... No BS, they have them all. Anyway... the girl was amazed at the price/free offer they had so she one upped them. I got each movie on the list (all but Click, already had it) for $10.99 each. You can't beat that... it beats the hell out of the promotion.... I just watched Black Hawk Down... that movie looks amazing and sounds just as good.
Both of the BB's here are sold out of the titles. :(
JosephShaw 01-15-07, 02:28 AM Both of the BB's here are sold out of the titles. :(
I was able to order the $24.99 titles with the buy one get one free promotion when I was playing with the website earlier, but it wasn't letting me add two $29.99 movies and get the buy one get one free, even though it was through the link on the website that shows the deal. But, in any case, you can buy the movies online and have them shipped.
MySassyGirl 01-15-07, 02:33 AM Make sure you have only two movies per order. The order form is not smart enough to combine 4 or more together.

That's what I thought.
I took the ad to CC and no problems.
I went into BB last Fri. after reading about the sale here and stashed Monster House and Underworld behind other regular DVD's as I thought they would be gone by the time I got there Sunday. Well, I was right. I arrived about 1 yesterday and most of these titles were gone. I went to where I hid my 2 movies and they were still there. Bought them and left. I dont know how dishonest this was but I have my two movies for one. :D
rollingrock 01-15-07, 08:53 AM Thanks for the info! Just ordered Underworld EVO and Monster House for in store pickup. I just bought BHD last week and its still sealed so Im gonna see about getting Click as well for 5 bucks.

cavalry12 01-15-07, 08:14 PM I just couldn't resist the urge to buy more. After buying Underworld and Monster House yesterday, I went back in today to get BHD and Kung Fu Hustle. Now I am hoping to get some HD DVD titles with a sale like this, if one ever comes along in the future.

I just did that. Best Buy was all out so I took their flyer and went to Circuit City, they had no problems matching the deal although they did need to see the flyer.
flyingvee 01-15-07, 09:40 PM Thanks to OP, for tipping me off, to look at the ad. Luckily I'm in the sticks - they had one copy each of Underworld and Monster House. Which is good, since I'm almost 4 hours from any CC or other store to price match. ;)

Thanks. I just bought couple via bestbuy.com and I'll pick them up during lunch tomorrow.
SonyHome 01-16-07, 12:41 AM Does anyone know if I can still use the $10 rebate coupons that came with PS3 for these Blu-Ray movies? Do they care that one of them has price of $0?
plasmabuyer 01-16-07, 01:29 AM OK, I think I did one better - went to my local BB here today to pick up a few. Actually I wanted Click and Monster House. After looking around I could not find Click so went to a store rep to check his inventory level for both these BR's. He said that they have 4 of Click and 1 MH. Well I got the Click but no MH so I asked him if he will sub another movie in this BOGO deal - he said YES!!!
I ended up getting Click and Flightplan ;). Can't beat that......
Infact, I did not want Monster House to begin with anyways....so this worked out perfect!

Infact, I did not want Monster House to begin with anyways....so this worked out perfect!
Good idea!!!! I have all the titles I would want off that list but Im sure I can scrap up one if its free.

I did even better. Picked up HOFD and Click from Bestbuy and since I didn't wanted either of the movie.... I took them to Walmart and exchanged them for Crank and Ice Age: Meltdown...... :D
Someone inform the industry types: The war is over!
Amen to that my brotha! Now we'll see a super spike in the amount of BD sales over Hd-DVD because of this sale!

YOu can't imagine how much I would love to trade this unopened Monster House for IA2. I bet my Walmart has Zero BluRay discs or they just have Xmen3 becuase they think it goes with the PS3's or something.

You know,.. I got concerned a little about the format war and who's winning and what have you but then,.. I watched a Blu Ray commertial and they clearly state "The Future of Digital Entertainment is Blu Ray". So,... I guess it is over after all.
Could someone tell Warner Bro's.

lol at all the sarcasm in this thread.
My Walmart has 0 blue rays too, but they got a **** load of hd-dvds. i was like wtf, i am going to best buy.

You bet? I've been to two WMs in my area, and it's still the only movie they have on either HD format, sitting right there with the rest of the PS3 games. I wonder if there actually was some mix-up, or if every store got it as a test to see if it would sell.
Brian Hampton 01-16-07, 06:57 PM I honestly think they think it's a PS3 game, I don't think they realize it's even a movie. I guess that's because they recieved them with the initial PS3's.

And you are proud of this?
I just bought my first two BR movies from Best Buy, UE & MH. Anyone know where I can get a good deal for "The Wild"?

Yup all 3 walmarts around me only carry X-Men 3, and its locked up with the games, so if you want it you have to go find an electronics associate who is usually outside smoking so that you can get the movie.

Yes I am...because I did not do anything wrong. Walmart excepts stuff without receipt and other than that, I did not cheat anyone...

Actually you are right, either way you didn't steal anything from anybody. If walmart sells the movie he returned then they will still be making a prophet from the movie, no harm done.

LOL..... I HIGHLY doubt that Walmart can make a prophet by selling movie :p .....but most likely they'll make some PROFIT on it :p

Maybe they could be making a prophet in the back room in the example of some sci-fi movie :D , ya that was pretty lame, I was thinking faster then I was typing, hahaha
John Clark 01-17-07, 12:39 PM How BAD is The House of Flying Daggers? This movie is a favorite of mine, especially visually, and I've waited until I had a Blu-ray player to purchase it. Is it literally of such poor quaility that I should just default to the standard dvd? THanks.

delusive1 01-18-07, 09:14 PM I thought I missed the boat today. I didn't go on Sunday. I went in today none of the seven BR promos were on the shelf and I thought I was out of luck. I asked the lady in blue I wanted to pick up UW and Click. We both went to three different areas of BR disc shelfs and found none. She looked it up and found they had five each of the promos. She sent someone to the back to look. After 40 minutes they can't find it. Good thing it was an electronic store without the wifey or else I wouldn't hear the end of it. She finally gave me a raincheck. Thumbs down BB for not stocking up!!! and not able to find your merchandise!!!!
GeorgeLV 01-18-07, 09:31 PM Check out your Best Buys, I stopped by today because I was in the area and was pleasantly surprised to find they had restocked on the promo BDs.
took a little checking but I did manage to take advantage of this deal
Got Click, UE, BHD, and monster house.
Click isn't a movie I wanted to see again but for free it's ok.
the other movies are movies I wanted to see anyway.

The guys at my best buy's have told me they basically just keep putting out only a certain number per day and have been getting nightly shipments of the titles.
wishman35 01-19-07, 12:42 AM i bought Click, and Monster House for $30

No way...they allowed that? Who ever that clerk was should get fired.

Not that it makes it right, but he probably returned it without a receipt, so the clerk had no way of knowing what he was doing.

I don't think Bestbuy allows returns without receipt. As far as I know only Walmart does that.
Brian Hampton 01-19-07, 09:29 AM He likely used the receipt.
The receipt shows one movie at full price and the other at 0.
You can return the full price movie and get your money back. The other one cost 0.
That also works anytime that have something like Buy any DVD player and get a free DVD. You can return the player and keep the DVD. It's purely the fault of how they ring it up.
You may decide it's wrong and choose not to do it, but that's another story.
They ought to charge you half for each and then only allow returns for store credit without receipt for lowest advertized price. (That's the way it's done by retailer in the know.)

Plarodin 01-19-07, 09:38 AM im just gonna waltz into bb and and fill up trash bags full of blu-rays and shoot out the fire exit on these rocket shoes my buddy is working on. it will be so awesome.
From what I understand they keep records of who returns stuff and may deny the same person from returning stuff without receipts if it keeps up.
jay2525 01-19-07, 10:00 AM best buy here in L.A allows returns without a receipt. But they do keep records and will flag you after a while.
I might pick up Black Hawk Down and Underworld Evolution...I never saw BHD and Underworld was alright (just alright) If it wasn't free, I wouldn't bother, but I know the PQ is awesome on it though...Can't understand the love for Click...Adam Sandler isn't funny,it's the same thing over and over again and Click is nothing but a It's a Wonderful Life rip off.

i received some HD DVDs that were from Target as a gift....and was able to exchange 2 of the titles at Best Buy without a receipt. Might depend on the store.

This is true as far as keeping a record. I returned a camcorder battery which I purchased online without any receipt. I told them it was a gift. The manager said they will give me a in store gift card (which was worth more than the battery cause I bought it online) but the manager said I could do this exchange without a receipt only one time per year.
