View Full Version : Just left Sirius for XM

I just left Sirius for XM. Howards show is the same thing as it was 10 years ago. Nothing is ever new. And his following acts are repetitive too.

Found O&A arent the same as Howard, more edgy and funnier.

Also, I have found XM has much more variety in their music. I listened to Squizz for 6 hours the other day while working on my car and never heard a repeat song. That same time on Alt Nation and I would hear Hinder 10 f-ing times. XM also seems to have a cleaner sound and better technology...my new unit it sweet. Have only lost the signal once for a few seconds while Sirius was twice a day.

Glad I switched!!

I've never heard sirius, so I can't compare...

But XM has alot of stuff that I like to listen too... But does anyone know if Sunny CM is a Clear Channel owned station? This is a favorite of the parents, and a few months ago, they started airing one commercial an hour. Now it's bumped up to two back to back commercials an hour.

I urge everyone to write XM and let them know that we are paying for this great service, and like listening to it, but there should be NO commercials on any station. We complained in person when we heard the first one a few months ago, and are now writing our second letter ':),

Sunny is a Clear Channel station and has commercials. CM = Commercial Music. This was not XMs decision, it was out of their hands, they fought it but lost. No amount of letter writing and complaining will get the commercials removed from Sunny, Mix, Kiss or Nashville. XM agrees about commercial free music (hence why they have 69 commercial fee music channels), but unfortunately due to a deal from way back when, Clear Channel owns a portion of XMs bandwidth and they are free to do what they please with it. Clear Channel’s contract ends sometime next year, Summer 2008 is what I know to be correct. If Clear Channel exits XM, Nashville, Kiss, Mix, Sunny and WSIX will be removed, most likely along with Fox Sports Radio, WLW, Talk Radio and Extreme XM.

Xm is on the way out! Good riddens. I have bad both since the start. I only keep XM for MLB. How could you compare the bunk Talk and morning shows vs. Sirius. Have you heard Bubba, Ferrell, Howard, Ect. Those channels are hands down better then OandA syndicated garbage. Plus Raw Dog is the best comedy channel out there with Jim Bruer and gang.

Xm was the king but has rested on there laurels and is and has not injected anything worth a durn in 2 years. In fact even Playboy that was failing as a pay service on XM went to S and is free and doing very well.

I wont comment on the music scene as its not my thing. However I read its apples and apples on the two.

Go Sirius or GO HOME!

Wish we had more Alt Rock channels though

I have XM for the music. I don't really find a whole lot of difference between Raw Dog and XM's comedy offerings except that I can't stand the Bruer show so I'm happy not to have to hear it if I'm in the mood for some stand up comedy. My fiancee has Sirius and I find the music programming to be repetitive and lacking although I do like the underground garage and the elvis channel. While it would be nice to have the option of getting Stern and the NFL games if it cost me the music options on XM I would stop subscribing.

I don't care for talk or sports, so Sirius probably would not be my thing.

The only Radio shows I listen to are Rocky and Scott and Todd in NY. If it where not for these guys, I would ditch AM/FM altogether.

Why is AM even around these days? Do we need scratchy quality that degrades even further when you go under a bridge?

Just remember, size matters. As in the size of the play lists. Sirius has more repetition. Its probably not true for all channels, but I've spoken to people who've had both, and XM wins by a mile.

I'm a Field Technician for a company out of South Carolina (work out in St. Louis) and I listen to Sirius all day. Mostly Octane, Buzzsaw, or Maxim Radio. I've become a big fan of Covino and Rich on Maxim radio.

I do think that Sirius repeats a lot of the songs however. It seems on Octane and Hits One I hear a lot of the same stuff every time I turn it on. I still hate the Evanesence song, Call me when your sober.

I couldnt agree more. I listen to Octane pretty much all day and the amount of repeat songs is getting ridiculous. Something tells me that if sirius wants to continue to add and keep listeners they better change their FM-like music selection(or lack of). I love Sirius but Im not going to pay for the same crap I can hear all day long on the radio for free. Im just hoping that someone from Sirius reads this.

Sirius has played the more 'familiar' songs and used a narrower play list since day 1. XM has a deeper play list, they play the familiar stuff, plus the B sides sometimes... It comes down to 'to each his own'. Some like the familiar, some like a little more eccentric.

I have both...had Sirius in my vehicle, now I have XM. (Sirius in my wife's car.) I had Sirius for 2 years...the talk radio seemed better on it, but for the music I enjoy...XM is more to my liking. As mentioned in this thread, XM seems to have a better music rotation with deeper playlists. I got very frustrated with Sirius' repetition.

I find it funny how all the Sirius guys jumped in this thread to say "it rocks, YAY!" but not all of them have been on both sides of the fence... I listened to Sirius and XM both online for 3 months at work before purchasing XM radios for my car and home, and I can say that the music on XM is a lot better, as I don't care for the sports or talk shows. Howard is also over-rated IMO. My brother-in-law also left Sirius radio in favor of a better music selection on XM.

Ive had an xm roady2 in my work truck and the xm activated in my chevy for 2 years now. I know unedited songs are on xL channels, but where can i find the songs that are played on 20on20 unedited? There isnt any. These are the most popular songs requested on xm and half of them are chopped up and reedited. Im thinking about switching to sirius but i dont know what kind of channel line up they have that are xL. Xm doesnt like the word a$$. I would like to think im paying money for an uncensored service.

If you're hearing "real" commercials, then you're listening to one of the channels that are still controlled by Clear Channel. When Clear Channel forced XM to allow them to air commercials on those channels, XM added additional channels, in the same format as the channels controlled by Clear Channel in order to provide commercial free programming to people who want to hear those genres of music.

However, there are promos for other XM shows on all XM channels.

This is correct, if the channel is marked with CM in the title, there will be commercials.

This is completely subjective. The music channels on both services are very similar. Within each genre there are likely to be some people who prefer one service over the other.

I have both and for my tastes the services are very similar. I prefer Sirius music channels over XM but not by much.

The only reason I listen to terrestrial radio at all, is because there are three programs I like to listen too. Scott and Todd, Rocky Allen, and Big Joe Henry. I was listening to yesterdays Rocky show, and heard a promo for their upcoming 'theme' weekend.

'We're going back, way back...the 80's, the 90's...who knows what else we'll play?' I not only cringed, but also almost burst out in laughter, because that's almost all they EVER play, let alone every other non rap radio station out there today.

It's just amazing the masses don't mind hearing the same over repeated crap that often.. Even the good stuff gets turned to crap because they replay it so danged often :).

It's not just XL channels that will play uncensored music, it's just not blatant and the DJs don't swear on non-xL channels.

Ethel, Lucy and 90s on 9 will all play uncensored music after hours and on weekends and I bet you can find some of those songs on there.

I had both sirius & xm..unless your a stern fan, xm seems to be better, with sirius, I lose the signal more often ( seems it can't penetrate tree branches ), it takes longer to upload when you first start your car, they have no music variety ( the stones were on 3 channels in a row the other day ) and the comedy channels have more commercials than the NFL..maybe a merger would straighten it out.

I just purchased a 2007 Explorer that came with Sirius built-in to the truck, so my thoughts were I assume Ford did their research for antenna placement so I ruled that out from the reason behind the reception problems.... I have XM in my house and on my other cars and I would say that the antenna's aren't in the "optimal" place and yet they don't cut out NEARLY as much as Sirius....

I have always been of the opinion that if you want music, go with XM, they have a MUCH better way of doing rotations and their variety is light years better. IMO Sirius has better talk, XM has better sports and better music.

On a trip for roughly 2000 miles, I heard the same song (I was changing between 3 stations) about 30 times on Sirius. On that same trip I would be hard pressed to hear that same song on 3 relative stations on XM more than 5 or 6 times.

I have XM because of the baseball, but have been tempted many times to at least have both for Bubba the Love Sponge and Ferrell. I could care less for Howard, but those two are excellent.

Your probably listening to top 40 stations. On xm you will hear less repeats because they play way more crap and off the wall stuff. tons of b sides. They just told 25 national stations THE TRUTH about HooHoo Howie. He lies. Always has, always will. From the station manager in Vegas:

18+ rating: 2.5
18-34 rating : 3.7

I know those arent great, (inherited 2.3 and 2.3 respectively) but a 0.0?
AHAHAHA. Keep the brainwashing going Howie to your huge fanbase.

You really think he invented MTV unplugged or Jay-walking like he says??? Yeah, Johnny Carson never did that in the 80's before Howard....and music was plugged in on all radio shows and Sullivan's show. Please Hoo Hoo. Numbers or not the fact is that CBS failed to regain a fraction of Stern's audience on most if not all affiliates.

Like him or not, Stern found away into the public's consciousness. His name became instantly recognizable. He was a genius at marketing himself. He always found ways to get publicity, most recently with his "Vote for Sanjaya" campaign. Whether or not he has enough listeners to actually make a dent in American Idol's votes is irrelevant. He has yet again found a way to get his name into major news stories, this time associated with the most popular television show.

For whatever reason O&A don't market themselves. They don't strive to force themselves into the public eye like Stern did. This means their show has to grow its audience based on word of mouth. They cannot possibly grow as quickly in new markets as Stern did. Perhaps they are happy with this approach, or perhaps they are envious of Stern's continued recognition despite his shrunken audience.

One thing is clear, they don't seem to have any interest in remaining a part of the combined Sirius-XM entity should the merger go through. They continue to dig that grave every day. Hopefully their terrestrial ratings continue to improve because it will probably become their full-time job.

And in CHICAGO they INHERITED A 0.0 FROM ROVER, again....Howard lies to make himself look good. Anyone with 1/2 a brain could figure this out...oh yeah, nevermind. You really think he invented MTV unplugged or Jay-walking like he says??? Yeah, Johnny Carson never did that in the 80's before Howard....and music was plugged in on all radio shows and Sullivan's show. Please Hoo Hoo. Anyways, the chicago ratings arent in yet...soon though and Im sure it isnt a 0.0

In 25 markets are any of O&A`s numbers great?
anywhere?

(on a side note, O&A totaly crapped out on Fridays show about the Imus firing).
I'm sure they were warned and folded tent as usual.

No. I'm sure that CBS has some radio stations that play hip-hop and some which have minority DJ's that take cracks at other groups stereotypes, so they do support racists, they suck because they support a double standard and will not stand up for their employee who was making a joke (what he is paid to do and what has made their company a ton of money over the years), not being hateful.

They suck because they just couldn't wait until Monday and allow Imus to raise money for charity. I hope they personally make up for the thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars they took away from the radiothon.

Actually it looks like this years radiothon will raise more money then any other year, probably because many people are PO'ed about this mess and the publicity.

That said I agree with you 100%. MSNBC and CBS showed no class, none firing him while this charity was going on. One of WFAN's(Imus's ex station) afternoon sports guys, Mike Francesa, said they told him Thursday, during a break while he was talking to a little girl who had lost her legs due to cancer..

You can't show less class then that....

Actually, they inherited the 0.0 when they started in Las Vegas. The 2.3's are the ratings from two month's ago. The 2.5 and 3.7 are the ratings last month. Their ratings in Las Vegas aren't big yet. But, like nearly all of their markets, they've been climbing every month this year.

I know that Opie & Anthony were asking their listeners to donate money to the charities. They also told the listeners to let the person taking the donation that they heard about the radiothon from the O&A show. Judging from the number of times that Imus thanked O&A for that on the air during his Thursday show, it appears that their listeners were apparently doing what they were asked.

I would assume that there were other radio hosts around the country, who supported Imus, that asked their listeners to do the same thing.

Full Disclosure: I'm an O&A Fan, and I got XM solely for O&A.

Why does EVERY XM or Sirius thread have to turn into O&A vs. Howard? I mean it on both sides! You've got Uber Fans vs. Zombies , both of which will do anything to defend their heroes.

There is this funny thing about people, it's called opinions, and everyone has their own. Do I like O&A? Yes. Did I like Howard? Yes, it's what I listened to Every Morning until O&A went to Mornings on XM. But I chose O&A because it is what I liked more! Just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion does not give you the right to bash them. If you want to listen to Howard, GO AHEAD, it doesn't affect me!

Now back on topic: I've listened to both XM and Sirius' music stations and I prefer XM's better. As many have said, Sirius stations are more hits-focused, and XM's playlists are deeper. Again, different strokes. I prefer to hear different music in the genre I like, so I prefer XM's stations. (Especially Squizz) If I want to hear modern hits, there is always the stations in the 20's I can head over to.
