View Full Version : Crank is impossible to find!!
btf1980 01-14-07, 01:30 PM It seems like everyone is town has snatched up this flick. I've been to 3 local Best Buys, 3 Circuit City's and J&R Music World. None at all. Stupid me, I was at Best Buy on Wednesday and there was a whole stack of them there, but I didn't feel like waiting on line to pay, so I figured I would go back later in the week. Well, they are all gone now. Yesterday, I asked one of the clerks if they had them in the back at the Best Buy close to me, and she said "What's so great about this movie? So many guys keep asking for blu-ray Crank. Is it that good?" I got a weird look from this older guy nearby, I think he thought I asked her for crack.
Don't really want to order online, but looks like I have no choice.
Wendell R. Breland 01-14-07, 01:51 PM Don't really want to order online, but looks like I have no choice.I would not waste any time, DVD Planet is sold out but Amazon & BestPrices show "In Stock".
hassoon 01-14-07, 01:53 PM Good news depending on how you look at it ;) .
DragonStar 01-14-07, 02:07 PM Finally my copy has shipped!
DVD Planet is a joke... their super store is just down the street. The prices you see online isn't what they are in the store. They won't even price match their own website. They will only price match ad prices of movies. That store is a joke... I will never shop there again... people are rude and slow to help

...Yes. 2 Copies of a movie sold out. Thats REALLY good new
Bob Meridian 01-14-07, 02:14 PM ...Yes. 2 Copies of a movie sold out. Thats REALLY good new
Considering how most stores get in 10-15 copies.
Plarodin 01-14-07, 02:26 PM my walmart had one single copy of crank today.
i did the best buy deal - buy 1 get 1 free and returned them to walmart and got crank for 5.39. stellar deal and yes im proud of myself
DragonStar 01-14-07, 02:39 PM So you should be: you got Crank! :D

Considering most stores got 2-4 copies. Where are you pulling this 10-15 title info? Why would they stock expensive discs that barley sell (BR AND HD) in such great numbers?
dialog_gvf 01-14-07, 02:47 PM It's a Lionsgate title (Canadian studio) and it isn't anywhere to be found in Canada yet! Doh!
Good thing is, the price will be great. LGF titles seem to SRP par here. And usually, BB has the par price of Amazon.com.
e.g. BB Canada shows Crank will be CDN$26.95.

Sold out AND barely sells?
I need to start collecting the doublethink.

Selling 4 copies of a movie is not very hard to do. I would imagine even a DVD of Vanilla Ice would sell 4 DVDs.
So is HD-DVD a success now since all new releases are constantly sold out at Best Buy? You act like they stocked 30+ copies.

It went to 78 on Amazon.com before selling out. I presume that is a heck of a lot more than 30 copies. 300? 3000?
I usually see about dozen copies of each title initially at my local BB. I have no reason to believe that one store in Toronto is special.

What backwater hick town do you live in? Every store in my area that I know of gets at least 10-15 copies on release day. I know for a fact that most if not all of the new Blu-rays sell out on the first day. Most of the time you have to wait till the second shipment comes in to get the movie you want.
maingon 01-14-07, 03:46 PM My 2 local best buys had about 8-10 copies of Crank for Bluray doesnt seem hard to find for me

So Amazon.com is now a B&M store?
My Best buys each or 4 copies in. Thats 3 Best Buys, in SoCal.
btf1980 01-14-07, 04:03 PM On Wednesday, there was a stack of Crank at the Best Buy in Noho, Manhattan. I'd say at least 10. So maybe the amount or lackthereof depends on your region.

Out of curiosity, do you see PS/3 in stock there?
It is clear there are some definite regional biases occuring. Can anyone in Chicago estimate the usual new stocking count of HD titles?

Wendell R. Breland 01-14-07, 04:56 PM It appears the scalping is starting on ebay for BD Crank. ♪♫♫♪ me a  song!! :)
giantchicken 01-14-07, 05:12 PM Scalping?
It's in stock at Amazon for $24.99, with no tax and free shipping. Why pay anything more?
Wendell R. Breland 01-14-07, 05:22 PM Scalping?
It's in stock at Amazon for $24.99, with no tax and free shipping. Why pay anything more?Well Mr. Chicken, that was the point. Buy it on ebay for $25-30 + $5-10 shipping or get it delivered from Amazon for $24.99 - 2.49* = $22.49
*If you are on the 10% deal
turansformer 01-14-07, 05:25 PM There's two at my Best Buy if you feel like driving down to TN....

Stocked to the ceiling with PS3s, much like every other store possible.

There ya go. Seems where the PS/3 is selling out the BD discs are selling very well too. And the opposite where the PS/3 is remaining in stock.
Makes perfect sense.

That makes no sense. My Best Buy has tons of PS3s because they sold tons of PS3s earlier. Same with GameStop, Wal-Mart, Target. This isn't some little town out in Ohio. Nearly all Best Buys has 30-60 PS3s instock. As them to check there backstock, not all will put them directly on the floor, especially in high-theft areas.

Wendell R. Breland 01-14-07, 10:43 PM Hater! No, may be he is  why Crank will not play in his 360 add-on ;)
GizmoDVD 01-14-07, 10:58 PM No, may be he is  why Crank will not play in his 360 add-on ;)
Yeah, just like all the Universal movies my 360 add-on is enjoying while you can't ;)

You just described Wal-Mart as well.
JosephShaw 01-15-07, 12:19 AM how did you return to walmart, just tell them to swap? I'd like to do this. :)
Wal-Mart has a no questions asked exchange policy for anything they have an SKU for, even without a receipt. Cash refunds are more difficult.
JosephShaw 01-15-07, 12:22 AM I picked up a copy on Friday night after work at Wal-Mart in Plano along the tollway, and they only had two copies left. Fry's in Richardson didn't have any, and all the Best Buys showed them as out of stock. I went to Best Buy in Denton today to pick up a few of the Buy 1 Get 1 free movies, and they had just received some new copies of the movie, but only had 2 left. The young man working the movie section said they were amazed by how many copies they had sold on BD, as well as DVD. And all three of my local Blockbusters were completely rented out of the SD versions, which is pretty impressive given how many copies they had. Honestly, I never expected this movie to be in such high demand.
Wendell R. Breland 01-15-07, 12:24 AM Yeah, just like all the Universal movies my 360 add-on is enjoying while you can't ;)Actually I have probably been watching many of the Universal movies in HD longer than you, i.e., Haunting, Life Of David Gale, Love Actually, Mummy Returns, Mummy, The Truth About Charlie, Time Machine and U-571. It is called D-VHS D-Theater. :D
btf1980 01-15-07, 02:15 PM Yes, finally got it at Best Buy!
