Sony has revealed (but not yet officially announced) the DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of The Holiday and Rocky Balboa on 3/20, as expected. They also have Stranger Than Fiction set for DVD and Blu-ray on 2/27.
As far as high-definition, Fox and MGM have announced the following Blu-ray titles and dates: Dances with Wolves, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story - Rated, Hoosiers, Ice Age and The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) (all 3/13), and Dude, Where's My Car?, The Fly (1986), Hannibal, Me, Myself, and Irene, The Silence of the Lambs and Tristan & Isolde (4/3).

we just watched a screener of babel the other nite. There was some amazing photography in it, (though, yes, GASP!!! grainy!!!!) If you liked 21 grams, similar somber vibe, (same director)

Yeah, theatrical-to-disc windows have been shrinking immensely the past few years. I'd say it's the exception nowadays for a film to come out on disc more than four months from theatrical release.

I rented that one on Netflix as well. Did you have strange audio during the fight? I'm curious if it was my setup. It just didnt sound like the punchs were hitting hard. The movie looks great though and I hope Rocky II is coming to blue ray or HD soon as well.

With Space being the one advantage of Blue Ray whats stopping companies from having 2 HD disks (If they even need that kind of space as you can see from the quote above).

The packaging is already smaller then normal DVD cases and the Disks won't cost them a fortune once it catches on.


HD Toshiba Player runs about half the cost of a Blue Ray player.

I have both players so I don't really care who wins the race. It would be nice to have 1 format that is accepted though.

I don't think you will see much in the way of studios spending the time and money to incorporate discrete 6.1 or 7.1 for the tiny percentage of people who actually have an audio setup above 5.1. It just doesn't make much sense to do at this point in time.
