View Full Version : Hula Bowl in HD (Live from Hawaii) on ESPN-HD Charles O 01-14-07, 08:30 PM Watching via E*. So far so good. delar 01-14-07, 09:25 PM Looks good via TWC as well. Just an observation, but lots of folks in the stands seem to be wearing shirts with a stadium seat blazoned on the front. Charles O 01-14-07, 09:27 PM They're like us delar...wanting to see what Aloha Stadium looks like in HD. :D delar 01-14-07, 10:22 PM Just noticed that the ESPN announcing crew went with the matchy-matchy aloha shirt look. Tacky, imo. Also, many of the shots showcasing Oahu's scenic beauty are in SD. Other than that, a fine broadcast from ESPN. However, with the premieres tonight of Rome on HBO and 24 on Fox (and lack of posts in this particualr thread), I think only a few people are actually watching this. It's pretty common for announcing teams to go with Hawaiian shirts for games at Aloha Stadium. Al Michaels and company did it every year at the Pro Bowl, and the Mark Jones announcing team at the Hawaii Bowl did it as well. My guess is the ENG crew out there that shot those scenics doesn't have an HD camcorder as part of the outfit, which is not at all uncommon especially for a relatively low-budget gig like this. But I think it looks pretty good otherwise. Charles O 01-14-07, 10:57 PM Yeah, it's pretty common that when you do a telecast from Hawaii that you wear the gaudy nylon "Hawaiian Shirt". Same goes for the "Luau Music", using Hawaiian words, et. al. But considering most of the crew didn't arrive here until Thursday, this is a real clean telecast. Good Job ESPN! Hopefully the first in many HD telecast from Hawaii. delar 01-14-07, 10:59 PM Don't have a problem with aloha shirts. I wear them to work sometimes. Its just that they're wearing the same aloha shirt (matchy-matchy). Also, all the game shots are in HD and that's the most important thing. Can't say that about a lot of higher budgeted broadcasts. I was just nitpicking. Edit: Oh yeah, the luau music. lol. Charles O 01-14-07, 11:15 PM What a finish....all we need now is the hook 'n ladder. :D Charles O 01-14-07, 11:20 PM Oh well, guess Zabransky ran out of magic dust. :) paule123 01-14-07, 11:23 PM PQ was pretty good on this. Nice to see the coaches drawing up the plays on the sidelines. The ESPN audio guy was a couple seconds too late on censoring the QB's comment there in the huddle at the end - "we're gonna f*ing win" - LOL. And they did! Ryan21 01-15-07, 11:53 AM Saw some before I started watching 24 on the DVR. The PQ looked pretty darn good. AccidenT 01-15-07, 11:58 AM Oh well, guess Zabransky ran out of magic dust. :) They really search you thoroughly before transpacific flights ;) |
