Haven't been able to find much information (user reviews) of the Definitive Technology ProSub 1000.

I've done an in-store demo and was pleasantly surprised with its output.

Any users here on AVS?

I had one for about 2 weeks. It performed much better than a Velodyne DPS-10? I tried. Nice sounding sub but really was overmatched for my open floor plan (about 4,500 ft3). 40Hz and above was excellent for it's size, however, output went downhill below that. 20Hz was dismal (<88dB), 30Hz was around 98dB max with plenty of THD. I think in smaller rooms (<2,500ft3 ???), it's a great sub and the dropoff in output below 40Hz won't be as bad as in my room. I ended up replacing it with a HSU Research VTF3-MK3 which is an amazing sub if you have the room for it.

That's a great observation on the Dev Tech ProSub 1000. I actually just purchased one a few days ago. I bought it from Best Buy, so will exercise the return poilicy if needed. I have a very small theater room - only 120 ft^3. It is fully enclosed, so it will be interesting to hear how it performs. I am a complete nuby to all of this. This is literally my very first 5.1 setup. I was only comfortable buying what i could audition and easily return, so we'll see.
