no, i missed it.

He closed his fist like he was holding a "mic stand" and shook it back and forth. Right after Chris S sang and he was interviewing him. If you have it on DVR...watch it...hilarious! Thats why Paula and Simon were laughing hysterically.

OK after Chris Sligh performed, and Seacrest came on stage and talked about Chris poking Simon with the mic stand, did anyone else notice the "suspicious" movement Seacrest made with his hand? ON National TV? Thats what Simon and Paula were cracking up about and saying, we'll tell you later! MAJOR BLOOPER...better than AB pulling her wedgie out!

I'm lost.. What was "special" about his hand movement.

Lakisha: I don't think this was a good song choice for her. It was a bit boring. I find she's stepping back every week instead of bringing it more every week and stepping it up.
couldn't have said it better myself...i think she blew everyone away in the early weeks and basically thinks it's hers now...she needs to watch herself or one of these weeks, the voting public will catch her by surprise.

i thought Jordin blew everyone out of the water...i had chills...1/2 way through that song, i turned to my wife and said, "she could very well win this". Blake's got the most talent (creatively and performance-wise), but his voice just doesn't measure up sometimes...still, i'd put him top 2 or 3...along with Jordin and Chris R.

Lakisha doesn't have the IT factor for me and Melinda, well, the "awww shucks" routine is grinding on me more and more each week...plus, she is not attractive in the least bit to me...there's a reason she was in the background for so long...don't you think that if she was that talented and marketable, someone would have discovered her already? i mean she was around music industry folks day in and day out. same thing with that Brandon guy...they're still backup singers for a reason.

I'm sorry but the beatbox thing is gay when Justin Timberlake does it,and it's twice as bad when this Blake kid does it.

I hate to say it, but Lakish's weight is going to catch up to her and she'll be gone like Mandisa last year. Mandisa had the best set of pipes and was out early.

Melinda is unbelievable, but keeps sticking to the same routine and thats going to cost her too.

Blake is very entertaining, and if this were the 70's, he'd be a huge teen idol. But its true his vocals just arent there. When he sings, the band plays so loud I can barely hear him sing.

Jordin, she's the one to watch. That girl gives me goosebumps when she sings. She is totally mesmerizing, awesome vocals and range, and has the looks and personality to go with it. And she can sing so many different genres. I actually rewound the DVR and watched her twice she was so fantastic tonight.

I always wondered why I never heard any of Chris Sligh's early songs before, it wasn't until I read an article stating Chris's hometown fans are worried hes losing his faith! So would we expect Chris Sligh if he won to release a Christian Rock album, or would AI have him pursue something different?

I thought Jordin did the best, better then M.D. and a lot better then Lakisha but if this round is any indication on what its going to be like for these contestants then Lakisha might be the first big upset who goes home! She should have taken the advice that was given to her and sung the other song, others took the advice and the excelled because of it.

Another one who is getting better with every week is Haley. She's got some real fight left in her. I disagree about Chris R being in the finals. He's just a bit to boring and wishy washy and forgettable.

And Stephanie.....I can't stand her type of singing. Again, can she hold one note and just let it out instead of warbling up and down? Yaaawwwwwnnn.

And I just watched Lakisha again. I really think she is a sweet girl, but I think Sturmie is right, she thinks this competition is hers and she's in for a big surprise.

And I just threw my Kinks CD in the garbage. I'll never be able to listen to them again without thinking of Sanjaya ruining You Really Got Me.

Me also thinks they are bending the rules a wee bit too much.

This was supposed to be a 60's British Invasion week, and the song Lakisha sang was from 1971!!!

Written as theme for the James Bond movie "Diamonds Are Forever" in 1971. Released on soundtrack LP: Jan 6th 1972, and on a soundtrack single: Jan 29th 1972.

I uploaded a quick vid of Ryans hand gesture. Here is it for anyone who wants to see it.

Afterwards, Ryans asks the other judges: "Whats going on?" Paula and Randy say "later" and Simon says: "We'll discuss this later Ryan. A bit rude!"

Was it just my imagination or was Stephanie behind the beat constantly throughout her performance? Listen to it again if you have it on DVR. It felt like she was very tentative with her rhythmic placement.

It's one thing to make a conscious effort to be behind the beat, this just seemed disjoint instead.

Jordin was......

WOW!!

SANJAYA screamed and needs to hit the road!!!!!!!

Crybaby girl???LOL!

Stephanie wasn't just behind...she was offkey!

Bottom 2 2nite

Sanjaya

top 3:

Melinda
Jordin
Blake

3 way tie for top overall IMHO:

Melinda

Jordin (incredible tonight!)

I agree Stephanie was offbeat. She murdered that song. I think she really struggled with it. She's used to beyonce double beating the song, not straight out singing. She's a one niche girl if I ever saw.

I agree Chris R was nasally.

Ya Fro Patrol and Bring Chubby Back was hilarious! That boy has charisma, no doubt.

But funniest moment of the night goes to Ryans jerk off gesture!

Also note in that Chris Sligh clip that he says "Hi Dave" right before they cut to the judges laughing. On the votefortheworst.com website one of the posters wrote this week that if Chris were to say "Hi Dave" on the air they would never make fun of him again!

Cheers,

Stephanie doesn't have breath control. She takes an extra gulp of breath before the next bar. When she does that, the lines get fragmented and she ends up behind the song.

All her performances are like that. If she can get some coaching with breathing exercises she will be a great singer. If not she'll just be a punch in singer like Keisha Cole and the rest of the RnB errrrr pop music singers out there.

One thing I do not like about Jordin so far is: she seems to save all her energy for the final long note. I thought the beginning of her song was flat but the final 30 seconds was smoking.

She's a big girl with a big ego...
Didn't she make a comment in her audition that she felt she had to "share her talent with the world"? I'd much rather see Melinda win, but I wonder if either would sell many records in this day and age... I can see Jordin selling a lot though.

Top three: Jordin, Blake, and Melinda
Bottom three: Sanjaya, Phil, and Gina

Jordin is adorable and I'm beginning to think she could be in the finals against Melinda. Blake had a great performance tonight and may be the best dancer ever on AI - but he doesn't have a particularly strong voice.

Melinda's humbleness is starting to get nauseating. It's too good to be true.

Plus, it hurts her. When I go see a pop star in concert (if I were to), I want some escapism. I don't want someone who is insecure and doesn't believe in themselves like the rest of us. I want to see someone confident, fun, and can provide an entertaining show that leaves an impression on me.

As far as LaKisha, I hope she is gone soon. I think she stunk tonight, and cheated by using a song from 1971. She could easily be gone this week or close to it if people go by this week's performances only (but that doesn't happen).

I hope LaKisha is gone soon is for nothing else, the racism of AI: You see, in AI 3, one week they had a black bottom 3. Elton John cried foul, of course not realizing that one of AI's tricks is to not necessarily put the lowest vote getters in the bottom 3, but the lowest vote getter + 2 others that could cause some drama. That wasn't racism.

BUT racism is in AI, and is a reflection of society: In the US, it is not socially acceptable to be a fat white woman, but it is more than socially acceptable to be a fat black woman

Throughout the seasons, Simon has got on the case of chubby white women, but has not said one word about LaKisha's weight (he said nothing to Frenchie either). He has openly told white women in the final stages that they need to lose weight, but never to fat black women.

In AI 4 there was a 28 year old homemaker from Las Vegas, Jennifer Todd. Fat white woman, but boy could she sing. She just missed the cut of making it to the voting stage, but the hot ones without a lick of talent seem to find a way to the voting rounds.

There is a double standard in society, and the double standard plays out in AI as Simon and co. will cut good singers just because they are fat/white/female, but not if they are black.

Face it: If LaKisha were white, she would have only made it as far as the elevator episode.

It's not her fault, but she benefits from the fact that the show perpetuates the racism seen in our society.

I hope LaKisha is gone soon.

DID YOU NOT SEE HER FAUX PAS TONIGHT???

Remember when Ace Young sung "Drops of Jupiter" and sang a line about a scar and then pulled his shirt down to show off his scar at the same time? REMEMBER HOW LAME THAT WAS???

Tonight Jordin did the same thing: She sang a line about a diamond, and brushed her hair over her left ear to reveal her diamond earring. Check it out on the DVR if you don't believe me.

It was just as pathetic as Ace's scar incident.

BUT racism is in AI, and is a reflection of society: In the US, it is not socially acceptable to be a fat white woman, but it is more than socially acceptable to be a fat black womanIt's just that we're more accustomed to seeing overweight black women in the music and entertainment business. And let's face it, black women have some of the best and most soulful singing voices. Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Patti LaBelle, and Roberta Flack just to name a few. All were/are overweight.

I think Oprah Winfrey has had a lot to do with this as well. She was and is still very popular, and has dealt with being overweight on her talk show. And she's very likeable--unlike Rosanne or the hideous Rosie O'Donnell.

Here’s the Idol rundown for the week.

Haley “Jiggle Tits” Scarnato – Wow. I guess since it was 60’s invasion week, you figured you’d do the womens lib thing and eschew the bra. I can’t complain about that. The mole on your face is distracting. Your jellolicious yammers made up for it. You sang “Tell Him” however, you could’ve sang the “Dixieland Ragtime Booby Shuffle” and you’d have been safe. You’re here for another week.

Chris Richardson – You’re a whiny bastage.

Stephanie – Ack. Ugly earrings.

Blake – Meh. Okay for now.

Lakisha – You pimped a mill worth of borrowed diamonds and worked it out.

Phil – you have the personality of a spaghetti noodle. You're on the bubble to go.

Jordin – Best. Teeth. Ever. Hard to believe she’s 17. She’s got the goods.

Sanjaya – Holy crap…where to begin. I couldn’t help but notice that during your intro piece you struggled with song selection and commented “Hopefully it’ll hit me.” Oh, I wish something hard and heavy would hit you right in that ridiculous ass face of yours, alright. You’re so freaking ugly, you made that little girl cry so hard that it looked like she was sniffing a turd. That kid has one of the ugliest “cry faces” I’ve ever seen. You “sang” (screamed) a song whose opening line is “Girl, you really got me going…” yeah, right. A buck nekkid 18 year old nymphomaniac Swedish aerobic instructor who owns a Ferrari dealership with her twin sister couldn’t get you going, Sugarpants.
Your vocal quality deteriorates week to week as if you gargle sandpaper penises. You’re about as cute and cuddly as a boil on the ass. If, during one of your songs, your neck randomly snapped and you fell lifeless to the stage, I’d clap and pray that you’d be paralyzed from the vocal chords down, you no talent hack.
Unfortunately for us, you’ll be safe this week what with the support of the “Vote for the Worst” people and with millions upon millions of Americans voting for you strictly because of your sisters rack, which is arguably one of the two most spectacular things I’ve ever seen, ever in the history of history. You’re comic relief at this point, which is fine by me. Here’s to many, many more weeks of you completely stepping on it in front of millions and millions of people.

Gina – Ugh.

Chris Sligh – You have a hot wife, you may stay.

Melinda – …big ups to Melinda though…she is vocally impeccable and the one to beat at the moment.

Recap: What a lame theme for the week. Gina or Sanjaya should go, but the little Indian girl will be safe, just for the sheer absurdity of the situation.

I think either Gina, Stephanie or Phil could be walking tomorrow night.

Not so much racist, but just a little unfair to overweight female singers that happen to be white.

But, then I could argue that they never put anybody through that's facially unattractive, but can sing very good. Isn't this just as bad?

Using wardrobe and jewelry as part of the show is appropriate and professional. Showing a scar in that setting is distasteful.

What is tis whole Hi Dave thing and why is it a big deal. I don't get it.

Vote for the worst challenged Chris to say Hi Dave, Dave is the owner of VFTW.

Chris Sligh then does She’s Not There. I’m a little underwhelmed by the performance, but it’s fairly good. The judges comment, and then it happens. Chris yells out “Hi, Dave”, not once, but twice. On the VFTW message board, we’ve always told contestants to give me a shoutout as a joke to show that they actually read our site. Smarterthanpickler wrote this:

This is a reminder to Chris:

Tuesday is coming, and this will be your final chance to reclaim your manhood. Remember, two simple words:

"HI DAVE"

Say these two words and I swear I will never bash you or call you a pussy again and that I'll use whatever influence I have to get you votes. Don't say these two simple words, however, and I will endlessly bash and humilate you until you are voted off the show.
The ball's in your court, chubby.

And Chris did it! This man is my hero. He wants VFTW to love him. Was it just me or did the judges look pissed? I just have to tell Chris, since we know he’s reading this site now, you are the man. Dude, we so need to go get a few drinks after this is all over and laugh about the show. You complete me. We totally can’t switch to you this week after all the work we’ve put in for Sanjaya, but if you keep it up, you’re guaranteed some VFTW votes once Sanjaya is gone.

She was sitting in front of Nigel Lythgoe. She may have been a Make A Wish girl.

Maybe so. She had on a t-shirt that looked like it had been signed by the contestants.

Just to show you guys how choppy Stephanie was, here is the original singer, Dusty Springfield, singing the song:

Yep. The song was too big for her. Plus, Dusty Springfield's vocal style is hard to replicate. But, she at least tried.

Wowzers! Talk about bouncy! I took a quadruple take on that nice little gem last night. ;)

Maybe we can petition AI to swap her in for her brother! I think the sectors on my DVR drive that hold that portion of the show are worn out now! ;)

The best;
Lakisha: The odd thing is she perfectly mimicked the Shirley Bassey version in a style that is not natural to her. Plus, she look great on stage.

Blake: He modernized a classic song without much problem. I wonder what he is going to do when they hit country week, the worst week of the season.

Jordin: Finally showed why Randy keeps praising her each week.

Middle:
Chris and Chris: For me the best beformance for each of them in different ways.
Melinda: Just OK for me, but her OK is better than a lot of them.
Sanjayaia: I do not know but I thought it was fun, but maybe not in a great way. This kid will not go quietly into the night.

The Bad :
Stephanie: She sang the song without soul which hurts a lot when people remember the past version.

Phil: Simon nailed it. He had no grit to his voice and that song is all grit.

Gina: Sounded like a bad 80s rock band covering a classic.

Haley: At least she sexed it up. She should be safe. You have to wonder if Antonella had done this if she would still be in the competition. Those pictures really killed her confidence.

Hands down...funniest post/recap of the week. Just got up from ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!! Keep 'em coming.

I thought LaKisha did great last night, but I also wondered why they let her use a 70's song. And Melinda was her usual professional self while performing.

Best judge feedback of the night came from Simon to Sanjaya: "That little girl's face says it all."

Are people here dead? Is no one laughing their heads off at Ryans jerk off hand gesture and the other judges reaction?? That was the major faux pas of the night!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ouPtfFHSfQk

That's why Simon and Paula were saying "we'll tell you later....a bit rude". They were not talking about Chris's saying "Hi Dave". They were too amazed at Ryans hand gesture. Sometimes I think Ryan is a bit daft ;)

No one's "dead" - it's just nothing. Ryan made the hand gesture in describing Chris and the mic stand; Chris made the same gesture seconds later. If the judges are laughing at him, Ryan's not in on the joke.

I can't believe any of you like Jordin's performance.

Pappy, you are one angry person. Melinda's humility is, I'm pretty sure, genuine. She's a devout Christian lady - not my thing, but that, along with her shyness, helps explain her personality. Yet when she sings, she is as confident and entertaining as someone can be. LaKisha has the confidence and attitude you say you desire, but you don't like her either. And you don't appreciate Jordin, who has a bubbly, fun personality. I'm beginning to see a trend here. When the best three singers are black, and you don't recognize that, and in fact they are the only ones you complain about, it's pretty clear where you're coming from.

I think there is indeed a degree of reverse racism and sometimes misplaced white guilt in America. But when we have before us two young black women - Melinda and Jordin - who not only are great singers but also sweet and likeable and wonderful role models - we should celebrate them. Try seeing people as individuals, not as members of an ethnic group.

The consensus seems to be that (1) Melinda was wonderful again, although her song choice might have been questionable; (2) Jordin’s performance was out of this world and even better than last week’s, the best in the competition with the possible exception of Melinda’s and Lakisha’s best; (3) Lakisha’s performance, although vocally strong lacked the sheer musical magic of some of her earlier work. I agree

I am surprised, even shocked, that anyone could have found fault with Jordin’s wonderful performance last night. The kid has big time talent.

WOW!! This is the most racist and also the most stupid post I've read on this forum so far. None of what you say makes any sense. What ticked me off was AI stating that the beatles kicked off the British Invasion in the states but that is not true.

The Invasion was a two fold happening. First the songs started to drift over the ocean and then the bands themselves. The first band to tour North America was the Dave Clark Five, followed closely by the Beatles and many others. This influx of music from Britain also created a major re-awakening of American Rock and Roll, as American artists had to fight for a place on the charts and for the publics affection (and Money).

---------------------------------------------

A musical movement of the mid-1960s, the British Invasion was composed of British rock-and-roll and beat groups whose popularity spread rapidly to the United States.

Though generally not credited with starting 'The Invasion', Dusty Springfield was one of the first, if not the first British artist(s) to have significant success in America, with her hit single I Only Want To Be With You, released in November 1963. She appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in early 1964, singing the popular hit, and continued to have several US hits through the rest of the 60's. For a list of songs by British artists which reached number-one on the Hot 100, click here.

However, The Beatles' triumphant arrival in New York City on February 7, 1964, is widely credited with truly throwing open America's doors to a wealth of British musical talent, and officially beginning what would come to be called--with historical condescension by the willingly reconquered colony--the second British Invasion.

1.) Do you know for a fact that LaKisha was given a list that had this song on it?

2.) I know Simon has joked about overweight black women, but go back and watch the finals portions of AI for every season. You'll see that he tells white women to lose weight, but not black women.

3.) I have no problem with black people, I love black people, nor do I have a problem with black people on the show. I am just tired of R&B/Soul/etc. Show me a black rock/country singer, and I'll show you someone I am a diehard fan of. Race has nothing to do with it.

Last season, in auditions, we saw a black female country singer. She was great but somehow disappeared in Hollywood (never saw her in Hollywood). If she had made the finals last year, I would have been totally behind her.

As far as black males go, I'd love to see someone who was influenced by Cowboy Troy (black male country singer) or Lajon Witherspoon (lead singer of Sevendust, a rock/metal band).

4.) My rant is not foolish. Name me several obese white women singers. You'll see that list is much much much shorter than the one of obese black singers.

There is a double standard in America: We want our white people to be skinny, but if they are black, all sizes are ok. It is not fair to talented white singers who might be obese, like Jennifer Todd who didn't make it to the voting stage of AI4.

I don't see how she was wearing a "conventional" bra either, at least not with that blouse. Some sort of tape or something else, but I don't see how a regular bra would work, "miracle" or not.

There are things out there like the Bragel NuBra that she could have used. The reason I think this is the most likely scenario is that AI doesn't want contestants up there with the "Jennifer Anniston, poke yer eye out, nipple-effect" going on.

I think Chris S. really blew the song choice last night. Santana (w/ Greg Walker handling the vocals) did the definitive cover of _She's Not There_ and Chris fell waaaay short of the standard that they set.

OTOH, he could have choosen _Spill The Wine_ and changed the phrase "Hollywood Movie" to "American Idol" and ended up with some really funny lines like the following:

"This really blew my mind, that me, an overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome was on American Idol." :D

And to add a little sentimental touch to it, he could have went down into the audience and sang the "Spill The Wine, Take That Girl" chorus directly to his wife.

And then there's Sanjaya... :(
Isn't it a law somewhere that if you're a very effeminate guy then the only Kinks tune that you're allowed to sing is _Lola_?

At the very least he could have sung _Destroyer_ instead of mutilating _You Really Got Me_.

OK This review of Girly-Boy's perfomance is hilarious:

If last week's Ford-sponsored bastardization of Modest Mouse's "Float On" delivered a point-blank gut-shot to popular music vulnerable belly, then Sanjaya Malakar's (whom we previously believed to be just a harmless, tone-deaf--yet alarmingly well-coiffed!--kid, but now realize is the earthbound emissary of some vengeful god sent to destroy us all) Tuesday night Idol performance of The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" stood astride its body as it lay bleeding in the gutter, rolled it over so that it could bite the curb, and then delivered the swift kick to the back of its head that finally ended its suffering. The strong of stomach can relive the harrowing ordeal through the clip presented above, in which an adorable little girl's salty tears stood in for those streaming down the collective cheeks of America on the night of music's grisly televised execution.

Yeah, it's unbelieveable considering that Simon and Nigel represent the Third British Invasion.I think the "bottom three" means what it says. In the past I'm not sure that they always put the lowest vote getters on stage - just told the others they were "safe" - but when Ryan says "You are in the bottom three", I think it does indeed mean your vote total was low.

Lol. I thought she was just a little kid, 6 or maybe 7, and then it seemed like she was cute and the crying kind of adorable. But she is in the 8th grade??!?! Thats one year away from highschool. I'm trying to remember how emotional girls were when I was that age and I just can't imagine any of them crying over something like that.

I'm also a bit surprised that there haven't been more complaints about all the innuendo and back handed sexual comments that are made by Ryan and the judges. The one about "loving yourself" last night comes to mind, and through out the season there has been a plethora of homosexual comments.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't bother me in the slightest; I'm just surprised that I haven't heard about more people complaining.

Considering the bottom 3 is not necessarily the 3 lowest vote getters, I think the bottom 3 will be LaKisha, Sanjaya, and Stephanie.

LaKisha and Sanjaya are of course, safe and no need to worry (according to dialidol), so Stephanie gets the boot.

I believe (my opinion) the 3 lowest vote getters this week were Stephanie, Haley, and Phil.

But it would be no fun to have a bottom 3 without Sanjaya or the random person who adds controversy to the "bottom 3" (LaKisha).

Since song selection is supposedly so important, here's my list of bad song selections.

Tell Her No. Not a great song when it first came out and still not one now. And always avoid songs that subliminally suggest that voters not vote for you.

Tobacco Road. Mediocre to annoying song. You would have to be really good to make this song work, and Phil isn't.

As Long as He Needs Me. So so song nobody remembers, again you would have to really good to make it work, and Melinda is. Melinda seems to be auditioning for something other than being the next American Idol, good luck to her. But I would have loved her actually doing something by Lulu or Dusty Springfield...maybe Windmills of Your Mind, for example.

Even though I can't stand him, I thought the Human Velveeta had more support than to wind up in the bottom two. Glad to see I was wrong.

A small rant. Why do they bring in a full size audience for a 30 minute results show? We have to listen to some dried up artist trying to make a combat. A waste of time.

They should just have the results show in the small studio with a small audience and announce the person who is leaving in that type of environment. The big studio audience isn't really needed for a results show that is just making announcements.

Tell Her No. Not a great song when it first came out and still not one now. And always avoid songs that subliminally suggest that voters not vote for you.
No one sang that one. Chris S. sang "She's Not There" and Blake sang "Time Of The Season." I think Blake pulled it off rather well, but Chris S. didn't.

Tobacco Road. Mediocre to annoying song. You would have to be really good to make this song work, and Phil isn't.
The Nashville Teens version is pretty good. Phil can't really sing anything other than slow Michael Bolton style ballads. He's got good pipes but needs to stay away from upbeat or fast paced songs. I predict that he's gone next week.

I was hoping she would have sang "To Sir, With Love."

I don't think there's anybody in the competition that could have pulled off a Dusty Springfield song with any dignity.

You Really got Me. I don't know if I could even handle the Kinks doing this one any more, let alone Sanjay. Way more interesting would have been him doing Lola.
Lola was from 1970, but I agree it would have been a better choice for him. But it would have been weird because he would have whispered all the way through it. He would have been drowned out by the chorus. But, maybe that's a good thing. ;)

-Any song choice would be a bad song choice for the Indian Princess, I believe this falls under the "Death and Taxes" catergory of sure things.

-I would really like to know who is motivated to actually pay for a call to vote for someone on this show....worse who is actually motivated to vote several times for someone on this show, when they have to pay for each call? (Besides the pre-teens who are doing it without their parents knowing)

Finally, I have found the only way to watch this show is by way of DVR, I have it down to a formula:

2 hr Live show = 13 minutes in DVR time ( 5minutes of which are spent laughing at a certain someone)

30 minute result show = 30 seconds in DVR time

Ugh, it pains me to compare Sanjaya to the Beatles but have you ever seen the pics/film of teenage girls' reactions to the Fab Four during the height of Beatlemania? Many were far older than Crying Girl. And far more hysterical.

Yes, please never mention him and them in the same sentence or paragraph again. John, Paul, George, and Ringo don't deserve that :D

I could start a very long rant on why I hate soccer, but let's just say it's like the metric system. It belongs in every country in the world except the U.S.

Hank Hill: "Bobby, soccer was created by European ladies to keep them busy while their husbands did the cooking."

Bobby: "Why do you hate what you don't know?"

Hank: "I don't hate you Bobby!"

Bobby: "I meant soccer."

Hank: "Oh, yeah, I hate soccer."

:D

Count me in as a fan of yours. It makes me ill to think of how this 'international sport' has taken over our country. Watching the little tikes in my town playing this frustrating as hell, legs-only, 'sport' drives me nuts. No other sport for the kids produces as many injuries as does soccer.

On to AI and a pet-peeve, does anyone else think that Randy "Dog" Jackson could really shed some of his bling to now have his BOTTOM teeth whitened as much as the top ones??!?!!?! The shade difference between the two is quite stark. I don't know, maybe watching this show in HD is allowing me to see these, umm, anomolies. On the other hand, when that oft anticipated Haley wardrobe malfunction occurs, then that will be a HD treat!! :D

Nah. If you use a cell phone to vote, you do get charged:

Can I vote by using my cell phone?
Yes, you can vote using your cell phone, although airtime and applicable roaming charges will apply to toll-free numbers from wireless phones. Contact your cell phone service provider if you want to know how much you will be charged. Additionally, if you vote using Cingular Wireless Text Messaging, standard Text Messaging fees will apply – see How Do I Vote Using Text Messaging? for more details. Only send the word 'VOTE' to the 4 digit text message numbers you see on screen, you cannot send a text message to the toll-free numbers.

back on topic, i've been listening to Stern and since all the morning shows (like Today) are mentioning him in conjunction with VoteForTheWorst.com, he is now making it his life mission to get Sanjaya the next AI crown. at first, he was pretty much joking, but once the media picked it up, Howard kicked up the movement a few notches.

LOL

My daughter is also nine months old, and I dread hearing those words as well. While it's very important for kids to be active and get their exercise, I don't think there is a more boring game that still involves running. Most boring game overall would be televised poker, of course. :D

I can't believe how much people fret over Sanjaya's survival on the show week after week, as if he was committing a crime against all humanity, or at least depriving a deserving singer from making a career out of AI.

The talent pool on display here is so pathetic that they would get laughed out of a record executive's office. The contestants with decent singing talent are all still here, along with some bumbling buffoons for entertainment value, Sanjaya being one.

Most likely to leave before Sanjaya:

Chris R and his Tourette's syndrome mimic head jerk (unless he gets medication).
Phil and his Bolton-esque lack of flavor (unless everyone gives their grandma a cell phone).

And possibly:

Gina and her pseudo goth/rock image (unless she totally nails a real rock song).
Haley and her shrinking clothing (unless she has a McPhee-like planned malfunction).

Most likely before my kids plays soccer:

Brian Boitano pulls off the 'Tano Triple Lutz in Hell before kicking Satan's ass.

I am a non-soccer fan who grew up in New Jersey, where no one played. However, my kids have enjoyed it, and there are few sports where they will get that kind of exercise. Besides, it requires very little skill in the pre-teen years, allowing anyone who can run at all the opportunity to participate. That's likely why it's so popular.

As for Sanjyaya, I asked my 7-yr.-old again why she liked him so much, and she said it was because he cried when his sister was eliminated. I also asked what she would do if he is voted out. Matter-of-factly, she said she's switch to Blake. I'm glad she's prepared for his ouster, because my wife can no longer hide her reaction and ridicule every time he sings.

I do find it amazing to see how Sanjaya has gone from timidly awful to aggessively awful these past two weeks. I now look forward to seeing how he'll come out and confidently botch something else each week. Of course, if he performed like this on a show such as Hannah Montana, he'd seem awesome to most pre-teen girls.

Finally, I enjoyed Peter Noone's performance last night. It's not that he sang particularly well, but he did bring some joy to the show, and that's something that's sorely lacking most weeks.

Exactly!

Of course AI makes the bottom 3 consist of the person going home + 2 others to add drama, and they could be anybody.

Everything about AI is create drama and keep viewers. Adding controversy when needed to the bottom 3 (even if the result is the correct result in the end) keeps people interested.

Look at how many people refer to someone being voted out when in fact nobody is voted out of Idol, because of positive voting. The same thing applies here: They want you to believe the bottom 3 is the 3 lowest vote-getters, but they never actually come out and say it.

Wait, you lost me there. Someone had to be the bottom 3rd, regardless of what Ryan said.

I don't really believe they're manipulating the bottom 3 thingy, but based on their carefully scripted performance it is not a given. For example, Ryan will say something like this:

"Sanjaya. You sang "blah blah blah". America voted. Sanjaya. You are in the bottom three." Note the punctuation.

He never says anything concrete like "you are one of the three people who got the fewest votes".

Sanjaya SUCKS!........................Sorry I just had to say that...........all the tech savvy teenyboppers are keeping him in the competition when he should have been gone weeks ago. My money is on Jordin with Melinda as the runner-up.

They've done it many different ways to shake things up and keep us on our toes, but if you go back and listen to the exact wording each time (throughout the seasons) - they have always been very deliberate with their wording. Ryan isn't ad libbing a thing when it comes to the voting announcements and who's getting booted.

I was picking Sabrina, Stephanie, and Chris R early on, and dissing Lakisha and Melinda. So based on my track record it looks like Lakisha and Melinda are a lock for the finals. :)
