OK, I decided I should get a DVD recorder so that I can record some shows for my Dad. I think I probably just need a basic unit, since I'll just be transferring shows recorded on the DirecTivo unit to the DVD recorder (don't care about timer recordings, don't think I need a HDD unit, etc.) Right?

Sounds like there are several decent options under $100, like the Wal Mart unit or the Magnavox at Sam's Club.

Anyone want to chime in and point me in the right direction?

Once you get under $100 and don't care how hard it is to program, the only difference you will find is some will have a little better picture quality than others.
