fbrighi 10-28-07, 08:18 AM Hello
I boght this BD from Germany (because it has the Italian language too) and experienced the same icon appearing.
It should be the icon for "angle" feature, it means that in that position you can enter some special features.
I don't know if it is possible to skip it.
BR
FKB
narkspud 10-28-07, 11:09 AM Though I don't know if it's an option in the BH100, most players I've met have a way to turn off the angle icon, hidden in the menus somewhere.
knightl 10-29-07, 06:55 AM i tried to watch the bd the invisible without much luck.
couldn't get the menu to display any options. (play etc).
also the menu loopback would freeze intermittently.
has anyone else been able to watch this bd dvd?
i have the 071107b firmware...
The Doc 10-29-07, 07:19 AM If the Invisible doesn't work, that will be the first non-Fox/MGM BluRay that doesn't work in the BH100. No word on whether the Invisible includes BD+, which seems to be the major issue in regards to the Fox/MGM titles.
As far as a firmware update, still not much in the way of news from LG...
Here's the current list of Blu movies incompatible with the BH100-
Silver Surfer
The Day After Tomorrow
28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later
From Hell
Robocop
Mr. Brooks
all of these are Fox or MGM movies
Meet the Robinsons (plays but with angle feature occasionally popping up)
The Invisible
both are from Disney
"Sigh", the list of incompatible movies just seems to get longer....
SamEdwards 10-30-07, 03:55 PM More correspondence with LG. Mostly good news!
From me:
Hi Mr. Neil,
It doesn't appear that your updates are compatible with the Macintosh operating system. Could you please mail me a disk? Should it say on the box that this player requires the windows operating system?
Thanks,
Sam
From LG:
Dear Sam,
Thank you for your continued correspondence.
The proper update for this unit is not yet complete. It is scheduled for release around the second week of November. A disc may be available at that time to send to you.
If you have other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again either via email, or by calling our customer service division at 800-243-0000 at your convenience.

Call the LG Support number (should be listed on the LG bH100 manual) and ask them to mail you a firmware disc. You may also have to register your product first but might that kills two birds with one stone. You might wait until the FFSS firmware fix is available first though.
BRUCIE BOY 11-02-07, 02:49 AM Thankyou for responding to my question..Would that be usa lg customer service or united kingdom customer service??

Firmware update is due out in mid-November. The firmware will be available on our website at http://us.lgservice.com and the firmware should correct the audio issues still affecting movies such as FF4: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Day After Tomorrow. The culprit has been due to FOX changing the way their copy protection works. If you have other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again either via email, or by calling our customer service division at 800-243-0000 at your convenience. I see the firmware is available for USA LG Bh100 on LG Usa site.
I'm still waiting LG to release it also in italian site, it should be the same but i don't want to get risks.
Anyway, someone that have updated its US Bh100 can told us if it has fixed the problem and (speciallly) if there were (hopefully not) collateral problems (i.e. difficulty in reading other discs)?
Thank yuo and have good viewing,

when you start the update process the current firmware version and the version you are trying to apply are both displayed. you are given the option to quit the update at that point.
RaleighVideo 11-05-07, 03:22 PM I just downloaded 071101a and installed on bh100. Played Silver Surfer F4 and worked beautifully. No audio drop at previously unbearable parts such as ocean freezing over in opening scene.
reedrothchild299 11-05-07, 08:34 PM Will someone please tell me how they are making the update disc. I have tried using, Nero, Roxio, and Windows Vista's burning program and have had no luck. I must have wasted 10 discs already. I am following the directions by unziping the file and burning the file using iso mode. Is there more than one file cuz I see only one. Please help
rpurohit 11-05-07, 09:23 PM I just downloaded 071101a and installed the firmware. Played Silver Surfer F4 without a hitch. I used Nero 7 to burn the ISO image. First extract the iso file from the zipped download then from the Nero startsmart applications select Nero burning Rom. Click recorder on the menu, click burn image select the disk_update_071101a_kernel_023a.iso, click open, click burn. Hope this helps.

Try "DVD Decrypter" to burn. Some people have problems with Nero and the firmware updates for this player.
reedrothchild299 11-05-07, 09:52 PM Thanks I tried again but no luck. I see that the file you put says iso at the end. Mine doesnt say that, do I have to rename the file?
csundbom 11-05-07, 09:57 PM Thanks I tried again but no luck. I see that the file you put says iso at the end. Mine doesnt say that, do I have to rename the file?
There are two files, make sure you download the right one.
1. Download disc_update_071101a_kernel_0203a.zip
2. Double-click on the file and extract the .iso file
3. If 'DVD Decrypter' is installed, double-click on the .iso file to burn, otherwise use the software of your choice.
Do a google search for "DVD Decrypter", download and install it.
From there it's so simple. Unzip the firmware, tell DVD decrypter where the unzipped file is located then write it to a DVD disk. In this case no options to choose, just use the little program at it's defaults.
reedrothchild299 11-05-07, 11:49 PM I dont know what I'm doing wrong but it just keeps saying disc error on the player.
fbrighi 11-06-07, 02:40 AM Hello, firmware available also in Italy.
For the disc, are you using a dvd (+,-,+rw,-rw)? If you are using a cd (if the lenght of update allows you), bh100 can't read the cd-rom

You shouldn't have to, mine didn't say .iso at the end and it worked perfectly. I think it's just the name of the file is fairly long and the .iso part gets dropped by Windows when displaying the filename.
As for getting the disc to work, first off make sure you're using a DVD-R or DVD-RW. CD-R and CD-RW's will not work, it's got to be a DVD-R or -RW (I'm not sure, but I think +R,+RW's will also work, but I can't confirm that, my computer only has a -R,-RW burner).
As far as burning the disc, I used IMGBurn, which is a free program and works quite well. Since this is the only thing I've used IMGBurn for, the price is right.
Silver Surfer worked without a problem once the firmware was installed, btw.

A/Vspec 11-06-07, 08:15 PM Can this player output any of the HD audio formats over the HDMI or is it only via analog?
Also anyone have problems with Spiderman-3 before the update?
voyager6 11-09-07, 10:17 PM Can this player output any of the HD audio formats over the HDMI or is it only via analog?
Also anyone have problems with Spiderman-3 before the update?
Spidey3 played with the July update. However, the video behind the menus stuttered, but would play through and then loop and start over. After the Nov update, the video in the menus stutters even more, but accelerates and decelerates, sometimes playing two or three seconds at normal speed. However, at some point, the menu background freezes and no longer plays. Does the same thing in Cars. Cursor still works, so you can play the movie, so it is not a disaster, just a new bug. Acts like it lacks sufficient CPU horsepower to do the video overlay behind the menus.
I have noted other bugs in Cars in other threads.
Experienced the same problem with CARS using newest update...
Watching Spiderman 3 now on KDF70-XBR2...Very nice. DVD Decrypter burned disk correctly and latest update fixed the issue
Thx all

please advise if anyone has experienced the following:
- attempting to play standard DVDs (i've tried 4 titles), bottom half of picture is cut off & scaling is way out of synch on what you can make out on the top half
- hd dvd movies haphazardly freeze picture + audio
- moving between scene selections on hd dvd, the audio emits a loud "squelch" when a chapter initializes
are there any firmware upgrades avail yet?
I am having the same experience with a Bh100 purchased 10/1/07. I just updated the units firmware with the latest from LG website (the 071101 version) it helped somewhat but I still have the problem.
I have it on Blue ray disks, HD DVD disks and regular DVD. I only see it on some disks. Most work ok. but Chapter 19 of Oh Brother Where Art Thou is totally garbled, but when I play this same DVD on my $39.00 walmart dvd player it is perfect !!!!

2busy2P 11-11-07, 07:50 PM Just updated to latest firmware. Played 28 Weeks later and Spider-Man III flawlessly.
If anyone's interested, my Bh100 is hooked up to the D-Sub port on a 65" Panasonic Pro 1080p using HD Fury. BH100 is set to output 1080p. The image quality is spectacular.
SamEdwards 11-14-07, 05:49 PM Are there any HD films this unit cannot play at this time? I don't really care about all the menus as long as the picture and sound come through. I did notice that a very scratched dvd will stutter a bit. I guess any player would have this issue. My old deck wouldn't have been able to play this disk at all.

AVGangster 11-14-07, 08:39 PM Ok...So I just installed this player in a system I did for a small public theater.....I fed the composite output and analog output to a Parasound HALO 1 and then using the ZONE output I looped it back into a CRESTRON QM7x2.....Then QM to a TPS-12B Touch Panel.....Which displays a preview video screen for all the components in the racks......NEXT....I ran HDMI to DVI straight through to a Panasonic Digital 1080P 10000 Lumens Projector....I used Digital Coax to the Parsound HALO 1....Onto QSC amps.....
SO.....Here is my question......As soon as an HDMI cable is plugged in you have two output options...1080P....Or...480i.....Of course when 1080P is selected you have no output on your composite jack....Which kills my preview function on the Crestron.......SO.....I have few options as I see it but I am looking for input from anyone who has some ideas.....
---Get an HDMI DA....Feed the through to the Projector.....Give a fake-shake to a Digital to Analog converter....Scale....Out to the touch screen...
---Get a HDMI DA.....Buy another monitor....Use that for preview of 1080P.....
---FIND A PLAYER THAT OUTPUTS BOTH FORMATS AT THE SAME TIME....
Let me know if anyone has thoughts on this subject.......I would really appreciate any input on finding the cheapest solution.....

ctreesh 11-14-07, 09:36 PM Q1 : does the analog out of this player (5.1) feature the new hd-aduio codecs or is the built-in decoder only support standard dts and dd 5.1 at the normal bit-rates?
I know when I pick pcm 5.1, I still get 5.1 analog audio out, and it sounds great, but Im not sure if Im really getting lossless audio from this player?
Q2: Dose any audio out work over its HDMI ports? And if so which ones?
Q3: Whats the best quality way to do a delay-line on 6 ch audio from this player so that the analog audio matches my screen in good sync? 1080p/24 out-board scaled to 1080p/60 then fed to a RGBHV converter for CRT projector makes for one killer looking picture, but Im forced to use the fiber/coax audio outs and use the scaler to do audio delay....this limits me to normal DTS/DD5.1.
vwkaferman 11-17-07, 11:21 PM Another nuance I found in this same small theater mentioned above is you have to force it to 1080p. If it starts out in 1080p and that's all you ever play you'll have no problems. If you put in a regular format DVD, it'll go down to 480p. Now, go back to a 1080p disc and the LG only automatically goes up to 1080i. You have to access the menu and force it to 1080p.
This is per LG customer support, lady asked two "Trainers" and one Engineer. It might be for home but if you're considering installing this in a more upscale environment, might want to hold out for a different player.
Nice unit overall, great picture. Does load slow however, it that inherent with Blu-Ray/ HD-DVD?

And one other problem... I get this movie camera logo (ICON) on the upper right hand side of the screen the just pops up there from time to time for a second or two. I get it a lot on Ratatouille and I noticed it on one or two other BR titles? Anyone else see this?

Yes. I have had this on both Ratatouille and Meet the Robinsons. I saw in another thread where someone else had this issue as well with a different brand player.
Marcus. 11-19-07, 06:09 AM Yes. I have had this on both Ratatouille and Meet the Robinsons. I saw in another thread where someone else had this issue as well with a different brand player.
That sounds like it's an angle option.. It shows on the screen when a title supports that option. You may try watching another view of the title by pushing 'angle' button I guess..
A/Vspec 11-19-07, 07:46 PM If it is angle (I will give it a try next time I see it) can it be turned off?
The Doc 11-19-07, 11:54 PM If it is angle (I will give it a try next time I see it) can it be turned off?
I messed around with Ratatouille quite a bit trying to turn off the camera angle and have yet to figure out how to turn it off. I've also yet to figure out how to access the different angles, if that's what the little camera represents. I know if you hit the angle button when the camera comes on, it shows a number 1/3. If you hit the angle button without the camera it shows 1/1.
However, I did find out that the movie will not play with the Cine-Explore option (it freezes up and shuts off the machine). Everything else seems to work, though. The game that's included, though, is darn tough.
Harbottle 11-24-07, 03:31 PM Hi All , This is my first post so I apologise if this question has been asked a thousand times already. I need help. I recently bought the LG BH100 Dual HD-DVD and Blue-ray player. I have upgraded to HI-DEF but have been experiencing really annoying problems. I hooked this machine up to a Hitachi Plasma 42" telly which had no HDMI connection so used component instead. Although the definition was great the colour was awful. There seems to be a green/blue caste in most scenes. I tried several different Blue-ray discs and experienced the same. As I was waiting for a new Panasonic Viera telly with HDMI I wasn't worried and assumed it was the older telly. With the new TV the problem is still the same, even on the HDMI connection. I even looked at old DVD of the HD films and they had much better colour. The HD colour is just so cold and green. Can anyone help me on here please? I would be most grateful. Am I being stupid Or have I just got a duff player? Regards, Steve
JeauxBleaux 11-25-07, 01:42 PM 1. The red drive of the player's electronics has failed and needs to be repaired. (not likely since you say standard DVDs play okay)
or
2. although you connected the HDMI cable, you are still playing out the component ports and the "red" component cable is loose at one end or the other. (likeliest scenario)
Essentially, you have lost the "red" drive output to your monitor. If it isn't the component cable, it is a faulty player.
Wish you luck...
A/Vspec 11-26-07, 06:28 PM So is LG aware of the this "Camera Icon" issue and should we expect to see a new firmware update for it???
The Doc 11-27-07, 06:34 AM So is LG aware of the this "Camera Icon" issue and should we expect to see a new firmware update for it???
I don't know yet whether they are aware of the issue. There are actually several issues with some of the newer discs - CineExplore will not work on Ratatouille (though the extras can be accessed via the main menu), the camera angle on Ratatouille and Meet the Robinsons (and possibly others as well). There are issues with Cars as well (apparently the game doesn't work).
The good news is at least the movies will play this time and are watchable, unlike with the Fox movies.
I would assume that LG will offer a firmware update, though I certainly don't expect one any earlier than late December, given how long it took them to get the Fox BD+ update out there.
Can't hurt to let them know, though. The more people who inform LG of the problem, the more likely LG is to put a higher priority on the problem. Given the issues, though, I suspect this will be an easier fix than the Fox BD+ issue.

after the november patch i am still seeing video/audio sync issues.
hd-dvd - i now pronounce you chuck and larry
blu-ray - mr. brooks
it seems to happen after an extended pause of the movie or if i stop
the movie.
in both cases, hitting ff and then play fixed the issue.
anyone else seeing this even after the lastest firmware?
Hi All , This is my first post so I apologise if this question has been asked a thousand times already. I need help. I recently bought the LG BH100 Dual HD-DVD and Blue-ray player. For the component connection on the Hitachi you might want to check in the set up if you can switch between component and RGB. Switching from one to the other would probably solve the problem.
For the HDMI on the Panasonic I'm not sure if there are settings on the Panny for different color spaces but it's worth checking.
Hi all, just bought the BH100 and loving it, but can anyone tell me how to make it output 1080i @ 50 hertz scan rate?
The machine when initialy powered up, gives a picture of 1080i to my Hitachi plasma via HDMI & at the same time to my video projector via the component leads at a frequency of 50 hertz (which is what UK mains power is set to), but as soon as I spin a disc of either HD type, the player switches to 1080i 60 Hertz as per the U.S standard.
The result being I get jerky movement on fast moving objects as both the Plasma & Video projector are set to the British frequency rate of 50 not 60Hz.
There doesn't seem to be any way of altering this (unlike my Helios upscaling DVD Player which can be changed).
Is there a hidden engineering menu for the LG? It's the only thing which mars my enjoyment of the fantastic HD pictures.
Bye the way, when I put in a UK region 2 PAL DVD, the unit remains at 50Hz, whilst upscaling the SD image to 1080i
Any answers gratefully welcomed.

Your display must be able to except 60hz ntsc or 24p if not you cannot display the image correctly....
The Doc 12-05-07, 08:10 PM Just for everyone's information: I bought Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End yesterday. Tried it today and much as I expected, the movie would not play at all. The previews work, the movie attempts to load and then "nothing".
The only real question here is this: Will LG take another month to get a fix for this problem like they did with the Fox BD+ issue? All I can really say is "Here we go again..."

Here's what I did to get mine working. When the previews start press Disc Menu. I usually got a menu that gave me choice of language. Picked English and then I got a screen that said Play or Top Menu. I toggled between the selections and then selected Play and it worked. The second time I had to hit Disc Menu again and select play from that menu. But it did work.
If I just pressed the skip to next chapter button it always hung and would never play.
It's a work around but not right. LG needs to fix this.

Kurtis Bahr 12-07-07, 04:12 PM I just wrote LG and they respended that a possible copy guard change occurred with Pirates of the Carribean At Worlds End. They are working on a solution.
In my opinion the thing that will kill HiDef DVD's are the movie companies. With DVD players it was normally all disc played in home players but PC SW players always needed updates. Now the HiDef players are specialized PC's and always need the updates. People that want to copy it will find a way, the rest of us suffer.

cinema mad 12-07-07, 07:38 PM You will only need these annoying firmware upgrades for BLU-RAY copy protection because the copy encription key can be changed when breached such as the case with DISNEY MOVIES who implement this new copy protection technology, HD-DVD on the other hand has not implemented this as yet so you will not have this problem with HD-DVD....

That trick also worked for me as well, the movie then played without a problem. Here's hoping this constant firmware updating comes to an end sometime soon, it's getting real old. If HDM really hopes to take off, it needs to work just like DVD, pop it in and it plays.
oscar_in_fw 12-08-07, 08:28 PM I just got my firmware upgrade from the LG. Woo hoo !..... [sarcasm] Only two weeks after I borrowed an upgrade disk from a friend and had already performed the firmware update. It came in a DVD case, but the disk wasn't secured to the spindles and it was shaking around in the case. I stuck it anyway to see what would happen, the LG wouldn't accept the disk (disk error message) and spit it back out.
I'd have been seriously pissed off if I had been anxiously awaiting that disk. Would it still be worth the effort to let LG know they screwed up ?

I updated the firmware with the latest November 2007 update and still issue is still there. When ever I try 1080p it says format not supported. I am using HDMI cable and it worked at 1080p with my Playstation3.
What should I do?

Will the LG BH100 player ever be able to play the iHD menus found on HD-DVDs with a software upgrade, or is the hardware on this machine not capable of the upgrade?
I notice that the new LG BH200 will be totally HD-DVD menu compliant, so perhaps LG have put all their efforts in to the new design only.
Anyone know?
clinthall 12-11-07, 08:12 AM I would like to know the exact same thing too! I purchased one from Circuit last Saturday and I have not even cracked the box open yet! if a firmware upgrade will not fix this issue then it is back to CC for a refund!!!!!!
Can someone please tell me how to upgrade firmware on a DVD player?
Also am I better off just getting a HD A3 and a PS3?
Anyone know how much the Samsung dual format DVD player costs?
pizzachef 12-11-07, 12:02 PM I just did the firmware update. What I did was download an iso file form their web site of about 150MB (took forever to download, their server is really slow). Then I used a DVD burning software to burn the iso onto a dvd. Then you put the dvd in the player. A menu screen comes up that says your current firmware is version so and so and this update is version so and so, hit play to update firmware. The disk spins for several minutes, and boom, the firmware is updated. Pretty easy.
HOWEVER, the firmware is still not perfect. Before the update, I could not even run the new Pirates of the Carribean movie. Now I can sort of navigate the menu, but it is still buggy and the screens are corrupted, but I can at least get to a screen where the movie plays.

People asked this early on and LG did not plan HDi for the BH100. Don't think we'll ever see it. I just want to play the movie so it doesn't matter to me.
If you don't need HDi the BH100 is fine. If you want HDi and all the on-line interactive stuff wait for the BH200.

The BH100 does not do iHD features. Have never seen LG plans to incorpoate it. The BH200 has it.
Personally I have a lot of DVD+R's I've used for personal movie storage. The Samsung units "DO NOT" play DVD+R/RW. The BH100 and BH200 "DO" play DVD+/-R and +/-RW. So it's LG for me.

The issue with Pirates 3 is if you let it go through the previews and into the movie. If you press Disc Menu to skip the previews it does play fine. Mine will lock if you let the last preview end and let the player go to the movie menu startup. Press DISC Menu before before the last preview ends and I can play the movie.
Maybe the rental Blu-Rays are different than the purchased ones but I cannot believe that.

That's still quite an annoyance, even if I typically fast-forward through the previews. That lock-up problem shouldn't be happening at all; who's knows who might actually watch the previews all the way through ?
I'm actually wondering how long LG will continue to support firmware fixes for the BH-100. If Fox continues to "experiment" with BD+ (or BD-J), will LG continue to "cooperate" with potentially never-ending need for firmware updates for an out-of-production product ?

This is also my concern. But it will be true every year as new models come out. Do we have to throw away the old model and buy new due to the ever changing copyguard? Continual updates to improve player I can accept. Updates to deal with copyguard changes is annoying and produces anger.
This will be the death of any HD disc format. DVD's don't have this issue anymore. Not everyone has internet to update their players. The average consumer will just stay with DVD.

This has to be a concern for everyone who's bought into Blu-Ray, including those of us who bought the BH-100. I know I can't afford to continually buy newer models every year (at least at current prices). Even when prices inevitably come down, do you think Joe Six Pack is going to want to buy a new player every year to deal with copyguard changes. Chances are he throws in the towel, and sticks with DVD, where you can buy a player and it will work for years to come.
That being said, if LG (or any other CE manufacturer) drops support of their older models, word of mouth will get around and their newer models might sit unsold. LG is kind of stuck, stop updating the BH100 and the current owners will steer potential customers of the BH200 to a different brand. But LG isn't making any money off of these firmware updates, it's an expense, one I'm sure that they'd be glad to be rid of.
Copyguard protections changes need to work (or recognize) older players, without the constant need for firmware updates.

The average consumer will just stay with DVD.Let's be clear on this, The problem is with BLU-RAY only!!! and studios like Walt Disney that support this ever evolving 128 bit incription technology meaning that the BLU-RAY players firmware(incription Key) must be updated continually to be able to view the new release "Disney" blu-ray. HD-DVD on the other hand has not implemented this form of incription thus HD-DVD is not affected by this ever evolving incription technology so HD-DVD players do'nt need to have there firmware
constantly updated to be able to play the new release movie....

So basically we are at the mercy of LG and the studios, who get to decide exactly when they will "brick" our players? LG stops updating the Bh100, and we'll be unable to pick up any new movies, and have them work? Boy, that's really going to sell people on Blu-Ray.
If constant firmware updates were going to be required, then the BDA should have been the one who wrote the software and provided the updates, a la the Microsoft Windows model. I don't visit the Dell, Sony, Compaq, etc. website for OS updates, I visit Microsoft. Can you just imagine what it would be like if I did have to visit the hardware manufacturer for OS updates? Oh, that's right, I don't have to, just buy a Blu-Ray player and watch the CE's try to keep up with the studios constantly changing the copyguard.
At some point, the CE's are going to say enough is enough and drop their support of their older models, LG included.
Consumers aren't going to put up with buying a new player every year to deal with copyguard updates. They'll stick with DVD, where that problem doesn't exist. The studios are shooting themselves in the foot if they continue with the constant copyguard changes that require firmware updates.

Kurtis Bahr 12-19-07, 05:45 PM I thought I heard the Firmware update for 24fps on the BH200 was coming out in January. You need to go to the BH200 owners group and ask about this.

Thanks Kurtis, I came on a fact finding mission from the owners thread. I do have a BH200 and am having trouble convincing LG we have an issue. LG says 24fps is supported now.
On your Kuro how do you enable 24p? I just go into advance cinema and select advance. But mine is grayed out which says I am getting 1080p60.

I do run my PRO-950 in "PURE" mode. What I must say is that the BH100 comes up in 1080i when powered on and the Pioneer on. I hit the remotes resolution button for the BH100 to switch to 1080p before inserting a DISC. Then it works fine. Try the switching to 1080p on the BH100 before inserting a disc.

If you don't mind this player not having iHD functions this units is better at this time playing all Blu-Ray and HD DVD's. The Samsung and BH200 firmware is behind the BH100. The BH100 just doesn't have iHD or any of the newer on-line connectivity features.

After applying the firmware before the last update my player now goes from play to pause when I start a movie. Doesn't matter if it is a dvd, hd dvd or blue ray disc. The player goes from play to pause back to play almost frame by frame. I tried to apply the latest firmware hoping this would resolve the issue but I have a feeling I'm going to have to take the player in. Also have a Toshiba A1 and never had an issue with firmware updates. This is the first time I have tried to upgrade my BH100 however.

It seems to have fixed Pirates, since the movie started up from the main menu as it should. Didn't watch the entire movie yet, so I don't know if any problems will crop during the film.
I can confirm that the new firmware also fixed these discs as well:
Ratatouille - angle icon fixed
Cars - game now works
Live Free or Die Hard - don't know if this one had problems or not, but it played perfectly fine with the new firmware
Have yet to check Meet the Robinsons but since it was the same angle icon issue that Ratatouille was dealing with, I would assume this is fixed as well.
Overall, a superior piece of firmware from LG, my hats off to 'em as they seemed to have fixed the problems that persisted after the November update. They've certainly made one of their customers very happy with this update.
tripletdad 12-30-07, 05:39 PM Hi all,
I just picked up a new HD100 that our local hi-fi shop was clearing out at $500. (It's Tune Street in Great Barrington, MA, and they have one unit left at that price if anyone is interested).
I had been sitting out the hi-def DVD war, but couldn't pass up what seemed like a too-good-to-be-true price on this player.
Two quick questions:
I went to http://us.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp and see two different firmware upgrades:
disc_update_071211a_kernel_0203a.zip and disc_update_071101a_kernel_0203a.zip.

8IronBob 12-31-07, 12:48 PM Pfft... Yeah, I'm still surprised that LG doesn't price accordingly, since two dedicated players cost far less than one of these, like almost half the price. I'm utterly disappointed in the fact that it won't take full advantage of the features of either format. Here I was looking it over, it's impressive that it's one that can play both formats, but even so, it's still far overpriced for what features it has, or doesn't have. I tried it out for a week or two, then just RMA'd it for two dedicated players in both formats, and seem far happier about it.

Spike_9876 01-02-08, 10:47 AM Hi,
I'm new to this forum...
CompUSA is closing shop and they had BH100 on sale. I currently had XBOX360 accessory for HD DVD, but thought it would be better having a dual player...
I have noticed a couple of things with BH100 player and wanted to check if my issues are normal or not.
My current setup... I have HDMI cable going from dvd player to my TV and coaxial cable going from dvd player to AV receiver.
1. Intially when setting up player... I went to the audio setting of player and was attempting to test the 5.1. When I ran the test, I could only see 2 channels ( I tested using optical, coaxial & HDMI cables), I called LG and got a representative that was basically reading the manual and offered to send it in for service. It wasn't until i inserted a movie in that I was able to see 5.1 in my receiver. I still don't understand why in the dvd player was not able to get 5.1 channels.... but as long as I'm able to get 5.1 while watching movies then I'm fine.
2. I'm unable to get 5.1 when selecting TrueHD in audio setup for movie. I have a 1 year old AV receiver that has an HDMI input. I figure that it's an old AV receiver and maybe it doesn't support TrueHD. Yesterday, I got Spiderman and available audio options were TrueHD, PCM 5.1 & other languages with 5.1. I was unable to get 5.1 from TrueHD & PCM 5.1.... but when selecting other languages, I was able to get 5.1. Using my old XBOX360 HD DVD player, I was never able to get TrueHD either but movies also came with Dolby Digital 5.1 which I was able to get 5.1 channels. I'm starting to consider buying a new high end AV receiver that supports TrueHD. Using BH100, would I be able to get TrueHD from a high end AV receiver ? In order to get TrueHD... Do I need to use an HDMI cable or can it be achieved from a optical/coaxial cable ?
3. My remote seems unresponsive sometimes. There is an "ENTER" button that some times when pressed, stays on for a period of about 2 or more minutes. Also, some times remote is not responsive... If I hit the "ENTER" button, it does not light up... If you leave it for a while... then hit the "ENTER" button... it lights up.... Strange. Any one experience this ?
4. I'm unable to access audio setup while movie is playing... I'm only able to access audio setup before movie starts... maybe this is a feature that is available with HD DVD's and possibly the newer model BH200 ?
I know there is a firmware available (071211a) but I'm not sure if this addresses any of my concerns.
Sorry for this post being so long... and thanks in advance for any feed back.
knightl 01-02-08, 03:53 PM It seems to have fixed Pirates, since the movie started up from the main menu as it should.
They've certainly made one of their customers very happy with this update.
i have since applied the 071211a patch. watched the latest harry potter on blu-ray. can't seem to get the latest pirates from netflix.
today i had a problem with the movie, war, with jet li. i get a disk error when the bh100 tries to read the disk. has anyone watched war successfully?
i am hoping against hope it is really a bad disk...

i may have answered my own question. i see lionsgate made war their
first profile 1.1 move.
sigh.
all i want to do is watch high def movies....
Is The BH100 Profile 1.1 compliant?, if not can it be made so just by a firmware mod or is it more complicated than that?
I for one would like to be able to have picture in picture functionality.

Spike,
You can only listen to TrueHD on two channels through digital.
My remote has been acting up lately too. (1st time since March 07') Sometimes when going through the menus of blu-rays, I would hit down/up/rt/lt on the directional to go to a different part of the menu and it wouldn't go another step until the light on the remote turns off. I changed the batteries and it helped it seemed, but it is still doing it irregularly.
knightl 01-04-08, 07:36 AM sounds like 3:10 to yuma is out as well....
so i guess i am wrong in my assumption about the bh100 (profile 1.0) not playing profile 1.1 movies. the 1.0 players should read the 1.1 disks, just not support any 1.1 features. has anyone viewed the blu-ray version of "war" yet?
i emailed the lg tech support, they replied saying the 071211a patch should
fix any issues with profile 1.1 disks. i already had that firmware installed.
Spike_9876 01-04-08, 07:55 AM Spike,
You can only listen to TrueHD on two channels through digital.
So I suppose you are saying that in order to get TrueHD, you need to use an HDMI cable ?
I currently own a XBOX360 with an HD DVD add on. When watching HD DVD movies, I could never get 5 channels from my AV receiver I always selected DD 5.1 in order for me to get 5 channels from my AV receiver and I thought either my AV receiver did not handle TrueHD or I needed to connect an HDMI cable to get TrueHD.
This is very odd... First movie I played with BH100 was Blu Ray movie Spider Man 3. Like I mentioned previously, my AV receiver only indicated 2 channels when I selected TrueHD and PCM 5.1. When I selected other languages, my AV receiver indicated 5 channels.
Yesterday, I rechecked setting player settings. I currently have audio setting of SPDIF to Bitstream.
I replayed Spiderman 3 and now my AV receiver indicates 5 channels when selecting TrueHD. I currently have HDMI cable going from BH100 to TV and coaxial cable going from BH100 to AV receiver. My AV receiver does have 1 HDMI input/output but I'm not using this at this time. I checked that I was getting sound from rear speakers like 5 times.... also my AV receiver also indicated 5 channels... so I'm a bit confused... I'm gonna re-test it when I get home.
I was seriously thinking about upgrading my AV receiver... I simply cannot watch movies if I'm only getting 2 channels from my AV receiver. It just sounds amazing when you get 5 channels from AV receiver. I'm currently on the fence about buying a new AV receiver... I readily admit that I have no idea what is better in terms of audio when it comes to these settings: Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, DTS & DTS HD. Can anyone shed some light on these settings ? It is obvious from the names that DD Plus is better than DD... & DTS HD is better than DTS. But which is better... DD Plus, TrueHD or DTS HD ?
I was also complaing not being able to change audio settings while movie was in progress... Looks like I was hitting the wrong button on the remote control... There is an "Audio" button on the remote control and when hitting this button, I'm able to select other audio selections. I must say that comparing to my HD DVD, I much preferr HD DVD when it comes to menu selections and the way it displays it on the TV screen.
lexiconthx 01-05-08, 12:30 AM Pause Play issue finally figured out. LG must have made changes probably for copy protection to the latest firmware. I only have this issue when running through HDMI (Which I have to convert to a dvi input for my tv). Playback works fine over component video. Sense the set doesn't support 1080P this will work for now. What a pain though. Anyway I wanted to post this solution in case anyone else comes up with this issue.

pacpisces 01-09-08, 02:32 AM I only have the second to the last firmware(November) update installed because LG decided not to send out discs anymore. Don't know anyone with a dvd burner(even kinkos) and found out today that Sunshine(fox) won't play.
Just a bit more info for the group. I just got the BR "Sunshine" yesterday. I had not installed the 071211 FW. The movie loaded fine but then I got to the main screen and could not see the menu. I installed FW 071211 and everything worked fine. What I had been seeing was the background clips from the movie but the menus that should have been along the bottom of the screen just below the movie clips were missing. Anyway, another new BR disc for which the latest FW appears to be required.
jabtyler 01-12-08, 12:10 AM I just got my player and I know I need a firmware update, because I cant watch transformers hddvd, but I cant find it. I have looked on the LG web site but when I try to download the zip file it says Im not coming from inside the LG website. I have been trying to call LG but I sit on hold for a while then someone comes on and says they are having technical diffs and to call back later. does anyone know where else to get the update?

They should really get someone who knows how to write English. The description on the web site of what the new FW fixes is pretty bad. I thoguht the last version was a fix fpr BR Java discs. This only fixes some glitch in the titles? If so, it doesn't seem like a big deal. Or does it do more?
Jascias 01-20-08, 12:05 PM Personally I have a lot of DVD+R's I've used for personal movie storage. The Samsung units "DO NOT" play DVD+R/RW. The BH100 and BH200 "DO" play DVD+/-R and +/-RW. So it's LG for me.
Yes they do. The bd-up5000, and my brothers bd-p1400 plays every DVD+R disc I have thrown at it, burned or otherwise. I have no idea why the samsung site & manual is incorrect.
Kurtis Bahr 01-20-08, 03:19 PM The previous firmware had issues with my Pioneer PRO-950. When using the 1080p output the player would randomly freeze when you pressed the "Disc Menu" button while playing POTC3: At Worlds End. At any other resolution (480p, 1080i, 720p) is worked fine.
The new Firmware corrected this problem, POTC3 now has no issues.
Do not have any other disc with issues

jabtyler 01-27-08, 06:33 PM can someone explain how to download the new firmware. I have gone to us.lgsupport.com and went to the download area and when I click on the zip file it says I am not coming from inside the lg sites. if I right click it says right clicking is not allowed. where else can I get the firmware, and am I the only one having this problem?
I had no problem downloading it just now, it must be something with your internet browser that is causing your problem.
I am having exactly the same problem. Did you find out why this is happening?
Marc
The downloads work for me o.k using IE7 on Windows XP.
But has anyone else noticed on their BH100's that on all firmware updates from 071101a onward, the Film company's animated logo graphic no longer appears in-vision when you first insert an HD-DVD disc, all I get is the audio only, the picture stays on the standard blue LG player front page.
Then, as normal, proceeds to the players copyright notice and green ratings screen, as it should, before playing the film.
I am now on the latest firmware 080109a and it still does this.
As a quick test I re-loaded my original firmware version when shipped (070503a) and the problem went away....until I re-installed the later versions again.
It isn't a huge problem, and doesn't affect any Blu Ray Discs, but I do find it a little annoying non-the-less.
topsy05 02-02-08, 05:37 PM I just got my BH100... Blu-ray disks and regular dvd's work fine but when I put in an HD-DVD the screen says, "disk error".

Have you tryed playing a selection of HD DVDs to make sure it's not just 1 duff disc at fault?
The machine should play them without any trouble at all, it may be you have a faulty unit.
If you just bought it, I'd be inclined to take it back and get a replacement.

I have been using my player for a good 6 months and today I did another update to the 080109a version...it went great...turned off and I turned it back on. I have never had an issue before. I checked the setting and I am at 1080p, 48hz audio, 5.1, pcm output for audio...etc....
Can anyone advise...it is flipping me out.

Steve, have you tried unplugging the power cord for a few mins then re-booting? plz report back
last night I was determined to make this work. Something in the new bh100 firmware is strange. The HDCP checking is where the issues lies. I unplugged my HDMI cable from the back of the DVD player. I turned both devices off. I turned on my projector first and let it show a blue screen.
I turned on my LG BH100 and let it boot...after it was ready, I plugged in the HDMI cable and it played planet earth perfectly with no HDMI HDCP Auth errrors. The DVD actually played great with no studder that I was getting before.
Today I went down and left the cable plugged in and turned on the projector first...then the DVD player once the proj was up. Up came the HDCP Authentication Failed error.
Maybe this will help narrow it down! Here is the picture of the error:
http://www.whiteenergyservices.com/hdcp.jpg
Thanks all,
Steve Smo
I also unplugged it for a bit to see if that would work.
I also have a call into LG and they had to pass it onto their tech staff.
I played with it today...got it to play once...by unplugging the cable....NO DVD in it...then turn on.....plug in cable....then DVD....
Blahhhh

nashou66 02-24-08, 03:14 PM HDPC is very finicky and sometimes its not the fault of the player. Long runs of hdmi cable can also cause this or cheaper brand hdmi cables. I had a cheap no name brand at foirst and had to unplug it every time. bought a better mid priced cable and no problems. Mine is 18 foot cable. i hear that over 20 is where the probles really start to be more frequent.
Athanasios
The only problem with that is I have been using this player for 5 months with no problems. Why would the new update cause it to have a problem with the cable...my cable is 30+ feet.
I hope there is just an issue with LG's firmware.

proteus69 02-26-08, 05:30 PM I found the BH-100 as an open box for $299 at BestBuy (minus $100 in reward zone coupons, came out to $199)! But after reading forums here, I was wondering if anyone knew if LG was going to create a firmware update to get HDi features to work, since the BH-200 does?!?! Has anyone heard? Thank in advance!:)

With the latest updates how solid is this player? I don't care for the HDi stuff. I remember when it came out that it would only do 1080i for hd dvd. With all the updates can it put out 1080p 24fps for both formats? Any issues with sound? This is an open box with no remote. How much should I buy it at? 150 to 250 sound right where I should consider biting? Thanks for your help

Sounds like a great deal (I paid $1200 for mine). You get a very capable Bluray player than does 1080/24p for film and 1080i for video (automatically switching!) and a HD-DVD player. I would go go for it.

appledelhi 03-04-08, 08:36 PM I am using firmware 080109a. If there is a newer one, I can't find it on their website. Also, I am using HDMI for 2ch pcm sound; I have experimented with different output options (bitstream audio, component video, etc),wondering if changing them would affect the freezing, to no avail. I have not had any problems with any other blu-ray movies, and I have tried a replacement disc with the same results. I emailed LG about the problem. dukey1980 03-06-08, 07:47 AM I am using firmware 080109a. If there is a newer one, I can't find it on their website. Also, I am using HDMI for 2ch pcm sound; I have experimented with different output options (bitstream audio, component video, etc) to no avail. I have not had any problems with any other blu-ray movies, and I have tried a replacement disc with the same results. I emailed LG about the problem. Hopefully they'll fix the issue with a firmware update. (By the way Rutgar, what is your players' build date, mine is feb. 07.)
If you directly connect the player to a tv then the only sound you will get is 2 channel PCM, becuase that's the only sound the tv supports. If you use a HDMI receiver, make sure the sound stops at the receiver (its a setting of your receiver). Only video signal should run to the tv. This way you get more than the 2 channel PCM.
dukey1980 03-06-08, 07:49 AM I picked one of these up yesterday and I have to hold the remote at a 45 degree angle to the unit to get it to work and it only works withing about 4 feet. To use the remote horizontally it only works within 2 feet away the unit. I have another LG DVD player its remote did work but the remote worked in the same manner so its not batteries or the remote.
I've looked through the posts and not found anything like this. Has anyone else experienced this???
I think the IR eye in the player has shifted a little, return the player.
appledelhi 03-06-08, 05:09 PM Dukey, we were talking about Ratatouille freezing, not sound output issues. I was trying various configurations to see if it would fix the problem.
nashou66 03-10-08, 11:06 PM I hate this player and am selling it, getting a PS3..Sony will keep up to date with that player and they know engrish a bit better.
Arghhhhhhhhh....And to think I spent 800 for it when it came out...should have know better.

I have no idea why your having this problem. go back to the older firmware version, try it and see if you have the same problems. then go back to the new firmware or wait for the next one.

In the BH200 thread, a conversation with LG was posted, and below, is an answer given by LG that references the BH100.
"4) Yes, of course there is a hack nearly everything made has a backdoor. I am surprised the BH100 hack is not posted. Lots of goodies to unlock...."
My question is: Does anyone know the hack for the BH100, and has unlocked the "goodies"?
I have both the 100 and 200. The hack for the 100 that LG mentioned sounds interesting.

Has anyone tried a mulit-region disk in the LG BH100? I'm in Australia and mine still has the FBI warning.
I haven't tried any Blu-ray disks from the US though (other than those that are marked region free).

The Doc 03-21-08, 09:25 PM FYI, the D-Files feature on Enchanted does not work on my Bh100 (using the most current firmware). I don't know if this is because the D-Files is a 1.1 feature or not, since it doesn't say on the Enchanted case. Rest of the features work fine, though and so does the movie. First issue I've had with a disc for quite a while.

Thanks for the heads up on the new f/w. I got so engrossed w/ getting my BH200 updated, I did not think to look for an update for my BH100.
This time, I did not have a problem with burning an .iso file w/ my mac. For some reason, the last update would not burn properly, and I had to get the update from my dealer. This one was a really smooth burn, and easy install. :)

That happens when you hit stop not pause, if you hit stop twice it really stops and won't have the resume movie option but start from the very begining. Its easy to hit stop and not pause in the dark, thats why i use a Harmony 1000 remote.

Just got the player I ordered ages ago in Australia !!! Yeah !
As this is a PAL player with Blu Ray region code "B" on the back I was so worried that all my Blu Ray movies bought from Amazon (for play on my USA acuired PS3) would not work.
Well ... hey presto ... LG have graciously made the Blu Ray region Free as well. Even the die-hard sony pictures Casino Royale region "A" worked without a hitch. Lovely !
Hi Guys, I just noticed this post, (from a while back) has anyone else from AUS tried disks from the US? I've got a couple and they seem to play fine but they have been ones marked as region free (not locked, like Casino Royale). Just want to make sure before I order a boat load :)
Hi Guys, another thing I meant to ask. I have an Epson Projector which does support 1080p/24 (I know this is the only 1080p that is supported by the LG). I still can't get the player to select 1080p though. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm not really too concerned, the PQ looks pretty fantastic on 1080i anyway.
efeezie 04-01-08, 12:54 PM Hello,
I have the LG BH100, I've updated the firmware to the latest posted on the LG site (something ending in 2229). I'm still receiving the HDCP Key error message tried different HDMI cables (although I really do not think that would effect it). Only thing I can think of is that my TV is is an older Philips 37in ambilight that only handles 1080i and I'm not sure if it's capable of doing the HDCP handshake (which if that's the case shouldnt the player just output to 1080i? Isnt HDCP only for 1080p?) The movie I'm trying to play is 300, regular DVD not blu-ray or HD and not a burned copy.
Any ideas?
cinema mad 04-01-08, 07:52 PM Hdmi uses HDCP on copy protected movies which includes All HDM,It does not matter what resolution you output through HDMI if the display is not HDCP compliant the player
will not send the info. The only way around this is to either use component out and only get 1080i or get A HDCP stripper for hdmi/dvi....

My BH100 is developing the same kind of problem.
It started with just SD disks. The BH100 would read the dvd, determine it was a sd DvD and then eject the disk. After 4 or 5 tries the bh100 decides the disk is OK and plays the movie.
On Saturday night my wife watched the BR version of Enchanted and there was no problems. Then on Sunday night I watched it. The BH100 ejected it maybe 10 times before it finally played the movie. The player would read the disk, determine it was a BR and then eject it. after about 8 tries I power cycled the BH100 and it played the movie.
This all started after i loaded the 2/29/08 update. Anyone having this problem? I think it time to return the BH100 player? comments, suggestions?
nashou66 04-08-08, 12:36 PM I wouldnt return it, its not always the players fault as the movie companies are always changing the way they encrypt HDCP. so the manufactures are always trying to keep up.
I have not had any problems since hot man and it wasnt a SD DVD i realized it was a DVD ROM disc for computers.

shawnmos 04-08-08, 04:45 PM Hi, everyone. Now that these players are dropping into the $250 range on ebay would it be worth getting one? This would be for my dad. I have about 50 HD DVDs and he currently has an HD-A2. I'd still like to be able to bring some of my HD DVDs home for my parents to watch as well as get him introduced to Blu-ray. He is still pretty upset that HD DVD lost. He also has a few HD DVDs as well.
I know this player doesn't play the menus of HD DVDs. That's not a concern for me. I just want it to be able to play the latest Blu-ray movies without too much effort and play the HD DVDs we already own. He probably won't upgrade the firmware so it'll only happen the few times a year that I am home.

I do not think the problem has any thing to do with HDPC (the handshake). This looks like a reading problem.

SamEdwards 04-09-08, 10:32 AM Hi Shawnmos,
I wouldn't really recommend this player for your father unless he's pretty technical and absolutely can't have 2 high res players. Downloading firmware is a big hassle and it's really only half of a HD-DVD player.
Cheers,

Hi, I'm glad to find some BH100 owners!
Last night I put aside a BH100 from a shop in Sydney, Australia.
For around $470 (~$420) this theoretically plays most HD DVDs (sans menus) and BDs, either through HDMI or analogue connections.
Given the firmware updates requierd and the low price (compared to BD players and overpriced HD DVD Toshibas on eBay), would you buy one again at this price?
The attraction for me is that this is my last chance to buy a cheap HD DVD player and I get a bonus BD player.
I'd like to buy as many action HD DVDs as possible while they last (at $10 or less) and will only buy BDs when they are on sale.
Can you honestly say you are happy with your unit and would recommend it?Lastly, are BH100s selling on eBay for less than $350, thus making a US purchase at a lower price possible?
Many thanks - and cheerio to Aussie owners. ^
Hi, has somebody seen this player on some australian online shop, i need a B/R2 player, and it looks like the palyer is at the cheapest there(he is terribly overpriced in europe)?
Hi talkron, did you have any luck sourcing a BH100 in Australia?
Alternatively, did you end up importing one from a US source?

Good question.
Does the BH100 have 5-10 problem discs like the Samsung BD-UP5000 and LG BH200? I don't see a "Problem disc" thread.
I presume TrueHD is 2 Channel only? Does it use an older version of the decoding chip found in the BH200 and D-UP5000?
Thanks.

Found the problem and it was NOT the BH100. It was the computer that was doing all the RS232 and IR control of all my hardware. It was causing the DVD to eject through a mysterious IR command.

After applying 4 or 5 updates ALL the disk I have tried to play have played. But you never know when a new disk will not work.
All this updating is because of the way Sony is releasing their entire Blu-ray specification is phases.
HD-DVD had a fully developed standard when Toshiba released HD-DVD. Sony rushed to market with a phased in specification.

Hi Guys,
I just found how to get to the EERPOM Settings for the BH100 this morning
Turn the player on (with no disc in)
Press PAUSE, 1, 4, 7, 2
http://lh4.ggpht.com/Cameron.DS/SA_Qggr-fpI/AAAAAAAAC50/ZCplA7BVuRM/24042008.jpg?imgmax=512
The values displayed are
41 55 00 8D 00 05 00 50
I'm assuming we'd be able to change the region codes from here but who knows which one. I haven't tried changing anything yet for fear of bricking it.
(My player is an Australian player and is SD-DVD region coded to Region 4)
cinema mad 04-23-08, 09:18 PM Good find, but not shore about region codes because I dont see any zone 2 number for europe (UK). By the way I love my BH100 had it for A while....
Yeah they are all Hex values so it may not be as straight forward as a one to one number match...
I haven't had any problem with region 1 Bluray yet only Region 1 DVDs.
and I agree my BH100 has been great.
cinema mad 04-23-08, 09:51 PM A while ago A LG tech was on the BH200 forum saying he was testing A new beta firmware for the BH200, which was released for A short time alowing the new HD codecs to be bitstreamed. He hinted that there were hack's for the BH100 and was supprised no one had found them "yet"....
bradavon 04-23-08, 10:17 PM Good find Camds. How did you come across it? Are you sure it's even an MR table you're looking at? It could be for anything.
He said there was a BH100 SD DVD MR backdoor hack and BH200 SD DVD & BD MR backdoor hacks. I imagine there is a BH100 BD MR hack too but I never asked. That's all I was able to get out of him.
I'm not "that" surprised the BH100 hasn't been found. While I can well believe it's a decent player it was an embarrassment for LG and thus nowhere near as many people bought it as they'd hoped. The more owners the more chance these hacks will be discovered.
I don't know if it's an MR table. The screen shot only says "EEPROM Edit Table" and there isn't any reference to what the values do... I found it going through a list of other LG Player unlock codes.
bradavon 04-24-08, 12:12 AM Thanks.
EEPROM is a generic word for Programmable Read-Only Memory, so that doesn't help us at all:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EEPROM
As you came across it while testing MR codes, you could be on to something, but where to take it from here is anyone's guess.
nashou66 04-24-08, 01:23 AM my guess is, the Eprom is holding the region code data. We jst need to find out which number needs to be edited to allow all region play.
Athanasios
Yeah I was thinking the same thing (as all models from different regions use the same firmware).
If we get a few different lists of Values from different regions we may be able to determine which values we should change.
bradavon 04-24-08, 11:24 PM That's a good idea. It maybe an idea to post the remote hack.

When you put back the original numbers did it go back allright?
And did you try your normal DVD region and the Blu ray same region disc to verify if it would change anything.
Also it may need a reboot(restart and the 5 second type) after you change the code, did you try that as well?

Same error: "Check disc". I tried a Euro region 2 disc. I suspect the player does support PAL; it would be silly to have two hardware designs. There are posts out there with people changing both byte 4 and 7 on some LG players to make them region free.
bradavon 04-26-08, 09:39 PM If it's an American Player it won't support PAL. There is no reason to give a North/South American Player PAL when no discs are PAL. AFAIK no discs released in North/South America have ever been PAL.
It won't be hardware but some software tweak. The BH200 is the same, no PAL support. There is a BH200 SD DVD MR Hack but on North/South American Player it only works with NTSC DVDs. It's common practise to make North/South American Player only support NTSC by default. Whereas European/Australasian Players support both.
p.s - Have you tried a non-R1 NTSC disc? Maybe from Japan R2, R3 or South American R4. I'd imagine a Region compatibility error would say something like "Wrong Region". That way you'd no for sure it's not a PAL error you're getting.

But id you also try a us version disc after to see if it also plays after the digit change? i was thinking then maybe that what the first two bytes are, to change from a NTSC only player to a NTSC/PAL player and then bytes 4 and/or 7 enable multi region play?

Sorry can't give you a photo of the UK EEPROM settings but they are
44 45 00 82 00 05 00 40
bradavon 04-27-08, 01:11 PM I wonder if setting it to 44 45 in a USA model will allow a Japanese R2 to work in an American Player.
It's also possible these numbers related to the language of the player, while it's likely UK models use American English, they may not.

This works! I can now play Region 2 DVDs on my US player. Output can be configured to 576p/50Hz or 1080p/24Hz. In Region 1 mode, it enabled 480p/59.95Hz and 1080/23.98Hz. So the hardware supports both PAL and NTSC + the two HD standards. I suspect the last digit of byte 4 (2 in this case) has something to do with the region. Now, I wonder if there is a "region free" setting...
