But the problems with reading a few titles in the fox, are attributable to a problem of firmware?Hi,you're correct it is the firmware with some BD titles,I set my player to 90 and let me say it works like a charm. All my BD disc ABC will play except for one,Region A Ghostryder, after the change to 90 it played. Also with setting 02 and 82 my Pal Dvds where choppy on playback.

Is there a process you use to turn off the camera angle? I have the lastest firmware update for my BH200 and have the issue with the "Star Trek TOS: Season One" blu-rays. Thanks.

Hey Guys. I just changed the 4th byte to it's origin 82 and the following happened: BD region changed to B, the DVD region is still 0. It plays DVDs region 1 and 2 and BD region B. After I enjoyed the jumper, I changed the eeprom to ... 92. Now The DVD region is still 0 (and plays in fact region 1 and 2 DVDs), and the BD region changed back to A, plays region A BDs and doesn't play the jumper BD. Well - I looked for any multiregion BD players - and - there are some, but you have to change regions manually via remote. This is not that big difference to what we have, and the player is coming in years anyway (doesn't play HDaudio), so I think I'm gonna be happy with that for now, a new player is coming anyway.... :) cheersHi,I tryed JUMPER BR region A,and it played with the settings at 90..........just wanted to let you know.

nice, your's does it all :). but I'm pretty happy with this setting aswell, this one BD region B I have right now and a few I might buy will be playable after one minor modification.. It's not a biggie, I can live with this player since now it also plays my DVDs. thanks :)

Yes or No...I can change the blu-ray region code from A to B on
an American bh100 via the remote, right?

Hey guys, just a thought... Does anyone knows what would happen, if you'd change the HDMI output to 1.3, is it possible at all? Is it much of an electronic work? Would it be enough to output HD audio or would it require major upgrades of some audio boards inside the unit? Could the output on BH100 be replaced with the one from BH200 for example ...?
I'm probably nuts ;)

I think I know what you're asking...output HD Audio via HDMI on the bh100;
sure, why not? I am not sure if it is a simple a swapping some internal bh200 components into the bh100. It may require some software modification as well. But, all the guts are there. So, why not?

Yes, you can use julios hack to enable the multiregion option for DVDs. You can find more information about it earlier in this thread. As to BDs playback, there is a setting from meli15 (previous page) which enablebles either multiregion or easy switching. have fun:)

So, basically if my HDTV doesn't support 50hz just 60hz and 24, I will not be able to play pal dvd's or blu-rays encoded at 1080i@50hz correctly? The bh100 cannot convert 50hz to 60hz? Hi...first thanks for responding Meli...I have a Samsung 37" LnA550; I tried your settings from the previous page with the 4 byte set to 90; basically my set shows No Signal, though the disc is being played. I have not done the Julios Hack because I do not have a DVD burner. So, maybe this is the problem then? The same thing happens with my reg. 2 pal dvd's...disc plays but image stutters. I have the output set normally on 1080@24 but then of course the player downscales to 1080i...

Ok, so change the first 2 bytes to UK model specs (which should be noted on this thread)...and then 4th bite to 90?

I don't have an HDMI option, just SPDIF. When I set that to PCM all I get is 2.0 out of the HDMI. When I set it to Bitstream I just get Dolby Digital.

Just tried UP! on the BH 100 and it plays fine. On the BH 200 no go.

I also have both in my theater and I actually like the picture of the BH100 better!!!

Now I'm using a dual CRT Projector set up in a blend configuration so its very revealing.

has anyone else noticed this as well? I am going to keep both players in my set up and use the BH 100 as my main player and if a disc won't play like the X-files then I'll use the BH 200.

Oh and by the way I finally got a reply from Virginia at LG and she said she is sending out a June update? has anyone heard of a June up date for BH 100? I think she read the subject line wrong. I hope I do not get a BH 200 update disc. I'll let you all know which it is, if its for the BH 100 I'll host it on my iDisc for all to download.

Fingers crossed.

I've just recently downloaded the last firmware update 090121 for the BH100 and succesfully burned the ISO file onto a DVD disk.

I'm just wondering if anyone has actually updated the BH100 via burned ISO file, not one sent by LG.

I've got Wall-E on bluray, but I think the BH100 will not output DTS-HD surround at all, although the picture plays fine.

It's helpfull when bluray makers ad regular 5.1 dolby to the soundtrack options, since not everyone's receivers are DTS-HD lossless compatible.

I assume your update worked succesfully?

If the file is burned, and does not state any errors...does it mean the ISO image is properly configured for the player to be flashed/updated with it?

I just don't want to insert the disk/image file and have the player freeze up because of corrupted data or somthing.

Yup, So is the BH200's. They probably are different models. Mine is only playing SD-DVD's now for some reason. but it's supposed to play Blu-Ray and HD-DVD's as well (I'm sure that you know that already! :) )

The Drive that's in the BH200 is the LG GGR-L20N. I put it into my HDCP PC and it plays the SD-DVD's fine and still doesn't play the BD's or HD's...

So I was wondering if anyone knew the model that was in the BH100... Any ideas on that?

The drive is an LG drive Model: HL-01P. It's a standard SATA drive but I dunno if you put it in the BG200 that it'll be able to communicate with it. If so then probably any SATA drive would work.

Well I put my SATA DVD burner drive in from my PC into the BH200 and it worked all the way up to the Disc Menu and stopped before it reached the clear view of the menu... So I don't know. Thanks for finding man! I realy appreciate it!

I'm in the process of utilizing the BH100's 5.1 analog outputs to pass Dolby True HD 5.1, I beleive it won't pass Dolby True via HDMI> but want to clarify this, or at least find out what the best analog output it can pass via it's analog ports etc.

Don't you have a Dolby Digital/ DTS encoding Receiver? There's not really a big difference with the True HD audio... I think that ones Receiveer will make more difference with the typical 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 audio quality... JMO though...

EDIT:
shawnmos,

How much are used BH100's worth? I found one and may end up purchasing it, swapping the drives and then reselling the BH100 as broken item... Any idea?

I downloaded and installed 090121a sometime in the past. (I used Nero to burn the iso disk)

But now I am again running into Bluray Disks that won't play. When I insert the disk, it identifies it as BluRay, after that I get the little rainbow colored marks in the center, it reads for a while and then I get a sort of target shaped set of white circles which then gets a swish of pink acrossed it and then a black screen.

I assume that it means I need a firmware update, but I can't find one more recent than 090121a. Does it exist?

I did try changing the eprom settings as noted above but that didn't help.

The specific disk I am having trouble with is "My best friends girl" It's a LionsGate Blu Ray. I have tried 2 copies one from netflix and one from the local Hollywood Video. They both had the same result.

I thought it might need a firmware update was the target with pink swish was what I got a year ago and an update fixed the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

That is the latest firmware version on the LG website. I received a newer version directly from LG which is the March 2009 update. However, it still did not resolve the problem I am having playing the Blu-ray movie "Akira", published by Bandai Visual.

Akira will load to rainbow flashing bars on the BH100 and remain there forever.

I'm still trying to get an ETA from LG for a firmware update to fix this problem.

Hey Gizmo,
The BH100 is about the worst piece of AV gear I've ever bought. The fact that they never really updated it properly was terrible. The only reason this machine isn't 100% compatible today is that LG feels they already have your money so they don't have to care. This is so 1990's. They should check out Oppo for an example of a company that understands what AV is today.
The BH100 was an enthusiast's product. The great thing about enthusiasts is they buy new gear all the time and recommend gear to others. I'm glad I'm not a LG stockholder because they just ticked off a whole bunch of enthusiasts.

Like Samsung, LG refuses to update these players because they can also play HD DVD. They figure HD DVD is dead so they don't need to provide updates. Nevermind the fact that these are also Blu-ray players and BDs are still being made.

No matter what I do, I can't get any 5.1 audio. I've tried DD5.1, TrueHD 5.1, DTS MA 5.1...nothing. It all shows up as 2 speakers on my receiver. I've tried updating the firmware...nothing. Bitstream, PCM, 5.1...nothing. What the hell am I doing wrong?

shawnmos
03-25-10, 11:03 PM
I had the same problem too trying to get it to output 5.1 PCM too via hdmi. I only got 2.0 as well. I don't think the player supports 5.1 via PCM. If you want TrueHD I believe you have to use the analog outs. I wanted to use the receiver's post processing so I just ended up using hdmi and selecting bitstream and it sounds great, better than the analog, even though I am only getting DD.

If you are not getting 5.1 and you are selecting bitstream then something is wrong with your settings or your player.

Is this player worth buying? I found a cheap one on ebay and am thinking about getting it.

div0
03-31-10, 09:51 PM
ctiq21, I cannot recommend anyone purchase this player. Read through this thread and the BH100 disc incompatibility thread. There are many people pissed off at LG for failing to properly support this product. There are many issues that LG is aware of, but they have not released any firmware updates for the product in over a year to address any of them. It does not appear to be a high priority for them.

For those of us that do have this player, first of all I do not want to hear suggestions to just give up and buy some cheap Blu-ray player that works. That is not the point. LG needs to support this product on principle, and they need to understand this.

I see two possibilities:

- There is a technical hardware problem that makes the unit incapable of being fixed with a firmware update to play newer discs. I think this is unlikely... as software is a very general tool and can be used to work around many hardware limitations. But if there is an uncorrectable hardware limitation, then LG should admit it and begin negotiations for compensation.

- This can be fixed with a firmware update, but it is considered very low priority by LG as they already have our money. So they have decided not to work on it, or only work on it behind priority of basically everything else. I think this is very likely the case.

And with the second option, I understand the position. They do not make any more short term money by fixing the problem. It costs them money to spend engineering efforts to fix the problem. But there is long term damage they avoid with making their customers happy and promoting good will and word of mouth to encourage others to buy LG products.

Now as consumers of this LG BH100 product, we need to make LG understand that there can be shorter term consequences of not supporting the product as well. We can start with continuing to complain to their customer support line. We can try to contact the LGE head of consumer support (email listed on this forum in a thread titled LG Complaint).

Going further we can contact consumer advocate groups and also petition the Blu-ray disc association to investigate and revoke LG's Blu-ray license. And then there is the possibility of getting lawyers involved...

In any case, as consumers, there are options to make LG realize that there can be direct financial consequences of not properly supporting the BH100 player. If that is made clear, and they understand it will all go away if they just devote the effort to fixing the problems, perhaps they will take some action on this product.

My patience won't last much longer.

I am very happy to hear of a new firmware update for the BH100. However, I am concerned about it coming from a megafile download link. I don't think I can expect help from LG customer support if something goes wrong and I tell them I updated the firmware with something on the internet that someone posted on a forum.

It is not that I don't trust you Samsungmaster... your reputation has been well established on this forum. But unfortunately there can be consequences just from not following official channels.

Is there an ETA when this firmware can be found on the official LG support page for the BH100?

What difference does that make? I'm pretty sure the player is out of warranty now so it's not like you have to worry about voiding it. Plus the update was written by LG. It's not like they have released the source code so only someone who works for LG could update the firmware.

Compared to to BH200 at what it will play, sure. But I'd never count on it 100% for my Blu-ray watching need. Right now it's just for HD DVDs and Region B Blu-rays. Just like I wouldn't count on any Blu-ray player made before 2009.

For what it's worth, my Avatar BluRay wouldn't play either. For 5 minutes I had a dark screen and I gave up.

Then I applied samsungmaster's firmware upgrade to by BH100. Now Avatar plays. The machine is a little slow getting going with that disk, but it plays and looks stunning.

I am guessing you have never had to deal with hyper-controlling hardware vendors before. Apple is one of the worst offenders in this area, and will essentially take revenge upon you if you try to use their devices in any way they have not explicitly approved. I would hope LG is not this bad, but I really don't know.

If LG is a hyper-controlling hardware vendor, in a worst case scenario they could decide to brick this out-of-warranty unit when installing the next officially released firmware if it happens to detect unauthorized firmware currently installed on the unit.

I would hope LG would not be evil as in the scenario above. Their customer support is still pleasant with me as well, which I would also expect to go away if I tell them I installed unauthorized firmware on the unit.

Therefore, I'll wait for official firmware to be released on the official LG support website area for the BH100. This is the safest course of action. I am hopeful that an official release will occur soon.

Just trying to understand samsungmaster's firmware.

LG does not have this firmware on their site and customer service just told me they are aware of the Avatar problem and will send me firmware when available.

Given that LG would have no reason to "sit on" functioning completed firmware, I wonder what samsungmaster's firmware is. The most logical explanation would be that it is beta firmware which may still contain bugs. Assuming this is what it is, if we want to go ahead and try it, does that mean we have to do a factory reset on the device to be able to install the official version when it is released?

TIA

I would like to sincerely thank LG for the latest official Firmware update for the BH100 player. I received my upgraded firmware disc from LG, used it to upgrade my unit, and it resolved all of my current Blu-ray disc issues.

I think many of us had felt that LG abandoned the users of the BH100 with many reported issues and such a long duration since the last firmware update. I'm sure that we are all thankful to see that this was not true, and hopefully this version will prove to be robust against future Blu-ray titles.

Thank you again LG, and please continue your support for this product.
