I have to say I am dissapointed with Clerks 2 on HD DVD. The picture quality isnt a very good improvement over the regular dvd. This is the first HD DVD that ive said this about. I'll take pics if people want.

This is the first HD DVD that ive said this about. I'll take pics if people want. jas722 01-19-07, 04:56 PM I would like to see pics, I was thinking of picking this up. But haven't yet because i have heard probs with playback on the 360 add on. nicks124 01-19-07, 04:58 PM I have the xbox 360 hd dvd drive. How do I post pics on this forum? Jonathan Hickey 01-19-07, 05:05 PM I thought the picture quality was solid. Not demo material, but Kevin Smith movies typically aren't. Considering I purchased it from Amazon for less than the regular DVD cost I am pretty happy. nicks124 01-19-07, 05:08 PM I have pics but if someone wants to host them I can send them to you through email or something cause I am not familiar with how to host them. jas722 01-19-07, 05:10 PM Good to know its working on the 360 add on, their is a thread with people having probs. You need to upload your pictures somewhere, like imageshack then post the URL in the forum like this: "your picture URL" here is my e-mail: jas722(at)gmail(dot)com I will upload them to image shack if you forward them to me and post them here. jas722 01-19-07, 05:25 PM http://img50.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000056cf2.jpg Chako 01-19-07, 05:28 PM http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/638/p1000056us4.jpg LOL! How is that supposed to convince someone? Michael Mullis 01-19-07, 05:28 PM I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting reference quality on this movie. It's Clerks II. I guess my expectations weren't as high as when I bought Hulk or Serenity. Now, if Lucky # Slevin, which I haven't watched yet, is that way I'm going to be a little ticked. nicks124 01-19-07, 05:30 PM i sent him like 15 jas722 01-19-07, 05:31 PM http://img250.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000059wt5.jpg http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000060dv4.jpg http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000063oy5.jpg http://img401.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000066yd8.jpg Steeb 01-19-07, 05:32 PM I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting reference quality on this movie. Lucky Number Slevin looks fantastic. Do you think the colors are ok? I switch over to the tv's original settings the color are more vibrant. mak99 01-19-07, 06:57 PM 32in sony lcd. Do you think the colors are ok? I switch over to the tv's original settings the color are more vibrant. Hm, small TV, hand held digital camera (MP's?) taking pictures, then uploading as small pictures. Can't say this will make the PQ look too good from the pix posted here. No offense meant... But as someone pointed out, not every HD DVD will be Tier 0 quality! I just bought this movie this week but haven't even opened yet. I hope I'm more pleased than the OP...plus have to go back to Fry's and get a credit for today's sale price! Why do I buy HD DVDs there mid-week? Steeb 01-19-07, 08:05 PM I just watched about 15 minutes of Clerks II. I don't know - to me it looked pretty darned good on my 50" plasma. Sure, there was some noticeable grain, but there's nothing wrong with that. There's tons of detail and it's a definite improvement over my SD DVD version. Just my two cents... Sky042 01-19-07, 08:58 PM It's not an overly pretty movie. Listen to the commentary it was intenionally washed out due to it's color pallate and to add to the feel of the movie. You should go back to the big dance sequence scene and see how that looks as it's the only scene in the movie that wasn't color timed to be de-saturated. maingon 03-14-07, 08:11 PM Just watched it and thought it looked excellent, theres some close ups in the movie that look better then almost anything that I have seen on a my 92' screen. maybe it helps that its 1:85. Its a very sharp picture, its never soft. Colors are muted alittle and some noise in some scenes but thats intentional. Mad Chemist 03-14-07, 08:51 PM To the OP, what were you expecting? This was a fairly low budget flick. I thought it looked great for what it was. cybersoga 03-15-07, 04:40 AM A photograph of my plasma screen: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andysquirrel/clerks2.jpg Looks much better than DVD, plenty of high frequency detail you'd never see with DVD. If you listen to the commentary, it tells you that the master was a 2K digital intermediate. homerx 03-15-07, 09:27 AM Looked good to me. Hopfully we see some more smith films in HD. JulesH 03-15-07, 09:53 AM Man, old thread. This movie is intentionally a bit strange on the pq, especially inside. It's the way smith wanted it to look inside the restaurant. I love the way the colors look, it's very unique. It's not supposed to look pristine. The outside shots, like where randall and dante take a break from work to go outside and blow off some steam (leaving it vague for those that haven't seen it), look really good. I wonder how mallrats will look? Supposedly that's coming from universal this year. cdhender 03-15-07, 10:18 AM I think this movie looks pretty darn good. I was suprised that more people don't think so. Several times during the movie, particularly outdoor scenes I thought it looked terrific. There's some grain but I think that was intentional. homerx 03-15-07, 02:44 PM I think smith talked about not using ful HD cammeras due to the cost. Most of his movies are very low budget. Jay and Bob was the highest but he said all the action scences took forever to shot. So he like more of a talking movie. Which most of his are.. narcopolo 03-18-07, 05:19 PM A photograph of my plasma screen: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andysquirrel/clerks2.jpg Looks much better than DVD, plenty of high frequency detail you'd never see with DVD. Was that picture taken at McDonalds? Nope, it was at Mooby's. Guess you haven't seen the movie yet. Graham Johnson 03-18-07, 06:08 PM I have watched Clerks 2 a few times and found the PQ pretty damn good. The contrast is muted and slightly washed out whihc was the intention of the director. In terms of sharpnesss etc I found it above average. narcopolo 03-18-07, 08:38 PM Nope, it was at Mooby's. Guess you haven't seen the movie yet. No, I have the HD DVD. Didn't remember that part though. craftech 03-18-07, 10:31 PM Look around at the threads. Clerks II is not the exception. It seems to be the rule of late. GONE are the threads dripping with excitement over the latest and greatest release in terms of PQ. Remember those threads? Serenity, Phantom of the Opera, Aeon Flux, Mission Impossible III, King Kong. Remember? John invadergir 03-19-07, 01:20 AM Anyways. . . I actually thought the transfer was great and on par with what i saw in theaters. (maybe a bit better) I am a huge Kevin Smith fan and was a nice addition to the ViewAsker universe and suggest to anyone to give it at least a rental. NoThru22 03-19-07, 11:01 AM No, I have the HD DVD. Didn't remember that part though. I'm sorry, but have you watched the movie? The entire movie takes place in Moobys. TV Casualty 03-19-07, 12:13 PM Listen to the commentary it was intenionally washed out due to it's color pallate and to add to the feel of the movie. Bingo. Same goes for the grainy look. (maybe a bit better) Ditto nohkul 11-13-07, 03:31 AM I've never been a fan of Kevin Smith movies. After watching Mallrats on Sunday I wasn't expecting much from Clerks II. Don't get me wrong, I thought Mallrats was funny--just not great. I just watched Clerks II and loved it. Yes, Rosario Dawson is smokin' hot in HD, but the movie is good, too. ;) I really enjoyed it and thought "the PQ was pretty damn good" (to quote Graham Johnson)--especially after seeing Mallrats. I was so into the movie afterwards that I watched all the extras on the second disc as well. The hour+ documentary (some parts were in HD) about what led up to Kevin Smith "going back to the well" to do Clerks II, the filming process, the Cannes film festival, etc., was the best reality TV I've seen in a while. Good PQ, fun movie, lots of extras = no brainer for Kevin Smith fans. Even if you're not into Kevin Smith or you don't know anything about Clerks (which I didn't) it's still a good HD DVD title for the collection IMO. Mallrats was the first HD DVD I purchased where I was underwhelmed by the PQ. Clerks 2 looked significantly better to me. bboisvert 11-13-07, 09:36 AM Good PQ, fun movie, lots of extras = no brainer for Kevin Smith fans. If you enjoyed Clerks II but have never seen Clerks, I'd suggest that you RUN (don't walk ;) ) to get yourself a copy. Clerks II is fun enough, but the first movie is a bonefide classic. Still his best work (although Chasing Amy is a close second). Thanks, bboisvert, I'll add the two movies to my Christmas wishlist :) lordcloud 08-13-11, 12:39 AM Watched this for the millionth time, and I loved it even more. PQ was great as well. |
