I have a Samsung HLS5687 and a Direct TV HR10-250 and I'm trying to run them through a Yamaha RXV2700. The issue is that I can get sound and video only when the receiver is on. I can't get the TV's audio to work at all. Is there a way to use the receiver to pass the HDMI signal on and get the TV's audio & video to work through the TV when the receiver is off?? Have I missed a setting somewhere??

If you run them through a receiver, then of course the receiver must be on. Your other option is to run the HDMI cables (audio + video) directly to your display, and just run audio (optical or coax or analog) to your receiver. That way you have the option of using your TV's speakers and keeping your receiver off.
