Do all HDMI cables carry the same signals? I have a Sanyo PLV-Z4 and a Samsung 860 DVD player. I need a cable about 12 feet long and man are there more options than I want to deal with. So that said, is there any difference in cable besides insullation and thickness? Can a $60 cable do the job or do I need the $275 version? Please help!!!

Yes, a salesman at one of the big box stores told me that only brand that carries 1080p is Monster. I just shook my head and walked away.

1.2 and 1.3 are compatible. You should get the best picture quality that the equipment can agree on.

An HDMI cable either works, or it doesn't. If it doesn't work, you'll get some sparkles in the image (very noticeable), and very quickly it'll lose sync and not work at all. Picture quality such as resolution and definition is not affected by the cable.

When looking at the Sharp and Samsung side-by-side, I've noticed that the Sharp appears to be doing significant de-blocking, whereas the Samsung isn't. This means the Samsung is "sharper," but also noisier. See if you can find an adjustment on the Sharp to turn that off, and see if you like that picture better.
