It costs $2000 or more, and Sony has no plans to distribute it in the USA. Kelson 01-22-07, 12:47 PM . . . and except for the PS3, the stand alone hd dvd players have far outsold bluray players.Do you know that to really be true? Did you read it somewhere other than someone elses post. Special needs aside, as far as I am concerned, I can't see how anyone with good sense would buy an HD player in either format when it is clear that only a small handful of movies are currently available in both formats. ncaahoops 01-22-07, 02:13 PM Do you know that to really be true? I wanted to see which BluRay/HD-DVD sell better on Amazon, but unfortunately (perhaps by design?) they are listed separately, so you cannot sort by best-seller :-( Of course if one has the time and energy and bandwidth, they can look at both best seller lists, and then see each individual's dvd overall ranking and compare... But that's a lot of work and not necessarily conclusive since one has to factor in the popularity/availability of titles for each format... Needless to say I haven't seen a BluRay/HD-DVD in the Top 100 Amazon DVDs.... biker19 01-22-07, 03:35 PM Special needs aside, as far as I am concerned, I can't see how anyone with good sense would buy an HD player in either format when it is clear that only a small handful of movies are currently available in both formats. And even less so for a recorder..... ncaahoops 01-23-07, 04:01 PM I wanted to see which BluRay/HD-DVD sell better on Amazon, but unfortunately (perhaps by design?) they are listed separately, so you cannot sort by best-seller :-( Of course if one has the time and energy and bandwidth, they can look at both best seller lists, and then see each individual's dvd overall ranking and compare... But that's a lot of work and not necessarily conclusive since one has to factor in the popularity/availability of titles for each format... Needless to say I haven't seen a BluRay/HD-DVD in the Top 100 Amazon DVDs.... Okay, I was curious enough to try with a few of the top sellers. Please keep in mind this is just a snapshot and it is not scientific. Amazon best sellers are updated hourly, and the best seller list may be affected by many other factors, such as special promotions, title availability, prices elsewhere, etc, etc, ... No conclusions should be drawn from this. For entertainment purposes only! The number (eg #234) is the overall ranking among Amazon DVD Best Sellers of all media types. So combined they make about 2% of the Top 1000 amazon DVD best sellers... Given that the average Amazon buyer is more tech-savvy than the average consumer, well I wouldn't start a parade celebrating HD-DVD/Blu-Ray breakthroughs (although as I said before, no conclusions should be made from this post alone hehe). Blu-Ray 1.
