just noticed this the other day when I held a bd up to light.... Why is this?

It may be a characteristic of the reflectivity layer. To allow multi-layer, it would have to be more transparent than previous tech.

Prehaps its becase the bluray disc information is closer to the laser then HD..

Might depend on the picture as well I've noticed the real basic silver DVDs that just have the name of the move on the disc can be seen thew as well...
