View Full Version : AVS Halo 3 Beta Community & Analysis
Management 01-23-07, 07:16 AM I would like everyone on AVS that has gotten the invite for the Beta testing of Halo 3 to post their Xbox Live ID. I really do no want to play with any crazy, annoying individuals. I do not know how Bungie will do it but I would like to play with a good group of people.
The purpose for this is because we can play some custom games and evaluate the game so we can give a valid report for everyone that did not get an invite. If we can not play custom games then I guess we can evaluate the matchmaking system.
Xbox Live: Izum27
BTW if you do not have the invite you can post your questions here or request people to try out a few things.
Ishmael198 01-23-07, 07:35 AM Good idea.
I gots me one last night.

When does this start? I mean the actual beta, not people getting notifications.
Scmedic 01-23-07, 08:53 AM I got the notification that I might get the invite in the next few days....Have they all gone out already and I just missed out? :(

Waiting for Microsoft or Bungie to send out the specific starting date. I'll let people know (unless someone beat me to it) when I get the e-mail. I just wanted people who are invited to post their Live IDs so we can get a community going and so that people can ask questions when it starts.
I wasn't down on you or the thread. I didn't participate in this round of signups so I was just seeing if there had been a date announced that I possibly hadn't read yet.
I got the announcement yesterday evening as well as the invite. 2 of my friends didn't.

Same here, sounds like we're SOL... :(
Management 01-23-07, 10:22 AM Now that I am looking back on it ... I signed up the day after the opening for registration so I figured I would miss out. Guess at the end of Phase 1 they just choose people at complete random.
Just a comment.
Me and 2 other friends signed up the morning of the registration. We all got registered. One of them has played Halo from the beginning but isn't online that much. My other friend is online every once in awhile. While I am online at least 2 hours a day. More on weekends.
Wonder if they are looking at online history. Would make sense to me.
StreetPreacher 01-23-07, 10:36 AM Wonder if they are looking at online history. Would make sense to me.
That might be the case, and since I've never played Halo 2 online I guess my chances are very slim. :p
Management 01-23-07, 10:39 AM ^^ I could very well be it. I play a lot of online Halo 2 and nothing else.
ogbuehi 01-23-07, 11:02 AM Makes sense. Get beta testers that play H2 all night and all day. That helps to maximize the amount of time H3 gets beta tested, and you know it's always those guys who go out of their way to try stuff to the extreme.
Ishmael198 01-23-07, 11:06 AM I can throw that theory out, I've played Halo 2 on Xbox Live roughly twice, and never for more than 20 minutes.
Never had Live for the Xbox, and all my Halo 2 MP time has been spent at system link parties. Got Live when I got my 360, and I never had any interest in starting from scratch in Halo 2 MP.
So I'm an extreme Halo 2 Live newb, yet I got picked for the beta.
Go figure.

I think I am going to be sick!
(coming from a Halofan who is a daily H2 MM player on live since the day the game came out. I got the first email but not the second one with confirmation:(
TheSkeptiks 01-23-07, 12:02 PM Just buy Crackdown and don't worry about getting an invite.
It's worth it to me to pay $60 to play in the Beta of Halo 3.
Plus I hear Crackdown should be a fun game.
xparkesx 01-23-07, 12:20 PM i'm downloading the Crackdown demo now. if it's fun i might pre-order. otherwise i guess i'll try phase 2
areallygoodname 01-23-07, 12:22 PM wish I knew how to sign up for beta testing for halo 3 last year. ( new AVS forum memeber )

Yup, me, too. Hopefuly, we'll get an invite this week. If not, Crackdown, here I come!
Got my invite. I probably play H2 a couple hours a week, funny thing is I don't have my 360 yet - they must not be checking that. No worries, I will have one in time for the Beta.

So... you're saying you got an actual beta invite? I'm talking the one that was sent "a day or two" AFTER the one they sent out yesterday to everyone who registered?
SC0TLANDF0REVER 01-23-07, 07:48 PM Aren't you breaking the NDA if you say "Im IN!"
... and if M$ comes across this thread and decides to they could then kill your GamerTag for breaking the NDA?
Just a thought.
Ishmael198 01-23-07, 11:05 PM So... you're saying you got an actual beta invite? I'm talking the one that was sent "a day or two" AFTER the one they sent out yesterday to everyone who registered?
Yup. And most of the people that actually received the invite, got it about 30 minutes after the original email.
If I don't sound like I'm 'l33t' enough for you, it's worth noting I've played both Halo and Halo 2 EXTENSIVELY at system link parties.
mastahkaz 01-24-07, 12:38 AM I really think it's random. I haven't played Halo 2 in about two years, and even when I did play it was very limited (was disappointed by it). In fact I don't really play games in general all that often. I have been playing Gears of War quite a bit lately though. I've also had a Live account since the day Live came out.
I was one of the people who got into the beta BTW.
kylebisme 01-24-07, 12:46 AM Did everyone who has gotten in sofar register soon after registration started?
mastahkaz 01-24-07, 12:59 AM Did everyone who has gotten in sofar register soon after registration started?
I registered right after it opened using my passport login that I normally use for all my Windows Live stuff. Then I realized it wasn't the one that's linked to my XBL account so I registered again the next day using that account.
The account I used to sign up for the 2nd time was the one that got accepted. I only received the "thank you" letter on my other account.
I made it into the beta.

Management 01-24-07, 09:22 AM For everyone that has not gotten an e-mail as of yet, not looking to purchase Crachdown, and does not know about the other Phase:
Rule of Three Program
The "Rule of Three" program is currently planned for gamers (17 years and older) in the 50 United States (includes District of Columbia) and Canada who have access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive, a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription and the Halo 2 game.
It is a two-step process:
1. Participate in at least three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer sessions on your Xbox 360 console via Xbox Live during the three (3) day period beginning February 1st at 12:01 am EST and ending February 3rd at 11:59 pm EST.
2. After the three day window is over, head back over to www.halo3.com on February 5th and register.
If you are one of the FIRST 13,333 to do this (and meet the above requirements) you will receive an invite notification in February to participate in the Halo 3 Beta.
Please note that if you registered to participate in the Halo 3 Beta during Phase One and were not selected, that does not preclude you from registering again for during Phase 2.
Hedonist 01-24-07, 12:23 PM Got mine on Monday, but didn't check that account until today after reading this thread :D
GT: AJ in HD
I'd love to beta test this with some of you guys/gals.
Hedonist 01-26-07, 12:55 PM Bump.
Are we the only beta testers on the xbox forum?
Ishmael198 01-26-07, 02:13 PM Bump.

Wait until Crackdown comes out, then everyone will be!
Seriously, not a very small 'beta test', is it?
Doctor Krypton 01-26-07, 03:14 PM I ordered Crackdown. I guess we will be in a phase 2 or something?
Did everyone who got in have their liveID linked on Bungie.net? I wonder
if this was a factor in acceptance.
fdrebin 01-29-07, 01:22 PM Did everyone who got in have their liveID linked on Bungie.net? I wonder

Nope. Not linked, got invite.
Hedonist 01-29-07, 03:16 PM Mine was linked...but don't think it's a factor as another linked friend did not get an invite.
And the funny thing is he registered before me! Actually he reminded me to do so. :D
He wasn't pleased when I reminded him of that. ;)
saweet!!!!whens the release on this? I just buy it for the demo... :p
You sound like the perfect target for this kind of marketing trick. :D
TheSkeptiks 01-29-07, 04:32 PM I'm the perfect target too...
I registered, but didn't get the invite...
My X360 conveniently died (3 red rings of death) last week so I won't be able to play for 3 hours on Feb 1 and then regester...
My only option is to buy freakin Crackdown...
damn
masterrh 01-29-07, 08:33 PM You sound like the perfect target for this kind of marketing trick. :D
Maybe, or maybe he's just too busy to play for 3 days straight and isn't CHEAP .
mcmushx15 02-03-07, 09:31 AM anybody know if waiting in matchmaking counts towards play time (3 hours)? This morning has been slow to connect to a game (Team Skimish - ranked 30)....game won't start for 5 mins or so
i'm almost done...i'll figure to play 4 hour just in case...
Havn't played Halo2 in forever (since GOW)...

not small because they want to make sure the servers can handle the traffic and get as many bugs out as possible.
you dont want anyone hiding in some crazy spot or an insane weapon advantage.
Rule of 3 for me.

Mantronix 02-14-07, 08:41 AM I received my Halo 3 beta invite on Jan. 22 of this year. I registered the night when beta applications were initially being accepeted. My gamertag is Cryptin.
I got another Halo 3 beta when I got my copy of Crackdown.
Management 02-19-07, 02:34 AM Are all the rounds over? I'm ready to get this on.
brianbat420 02-20-07, 01:14 AM MANTRONIX can I get your extra invite ????? Please????
brian, you know it's going to be on ebay.
WilliamR 02-20-07, 09:41 AM So, from what I read, we are just going to play the multi-player game and that is it. Bungie isn't letting users provide feedback on-line or anything. They are going to monitor game data. So if there is a bug or a problem, there is no way to communicate this to them. Is that what everyone else understands?
Management 02-20-07, 10:37 AM Will this be a one day online multiplayer? Or will it be over a few days or weeks?
WilliamR 02-20-07, 01:22 PM I think they said it is undetermined but it will be short, not months. Something about taking as long as it is needed to gather their data.
candyrocket786 02-20-07, 03:17 PM Will this be a one day online multiplayer? Or will it be over a few days or weeks?
When does the beta start?
The beta will not start when Crackdown is released. The beta will go live when it’s ready, which should be sometime this Spring. The team is currently busy whipping the included content into shape. Our goal is to deliver a fun, solid game experience though it will still very much be a “beta.”
How long will the beta last?
The beta will only be playable for a limited time. Exact timing is still TBD.
I don't really like the idea of a "limited time" Beta, especially if I had to purchase Crackdown just to get access.
I was actually hoping it would be available until the final release date.

that's what i understand, from what i've been reading. it's not a beta test of the MP game software, it's a beta test of the servers and online system, which with halo 3, will have a ridiculously high load, if history stands to reason. if they're letting 20K people have the MP software, they're confident of the software, as its already been through the "real" beta phase, with paid professional testers.
besides, i would image any glitches that would seriously affect gameplay or enable cheap crap would be more of a product of the server structure, rather than the minimal software you have on your x360, and correctible from their end.
for instance, if there's a bad hiding spot, they can just tweak the map for the releaase. with the monitoring they are doing, they won't need our feedback.
with the success of the other halo games, i would imagine they will have all the glitches logged and corrected, and all their ducks in a row. if they boggle halo 3, the xbox will lose major credibility.
on a side note, can you imagine what a waste of time it would be to sort through all the junk from 20K+ beta testers to find real, valid, valuable feedback? it's not worth it, no matter how you look at it.
20k beta testers? At least 100K people would be beta testing the game with Crackdown having a invitation.

if you buy crackdown do you get halo 3 beta auto?
if you buy crackdown do you get halo 3 beta auto?
Yes
Doctor Krypton 02-20-07, 09:05 PM I think this whole Halo 3 Beta test thing is more of a planned invitation demo to generate hype than it is an actual beta test. Although I'm sure they will be observing what is going on during that period.
does anyone know the official date the halo beta download will be available for crackdown users?
mcmushx15 02-22-07, 06:52 AM does anyone know the official date the halo beta download will be available for crackdown users?
i imagine the same time its ready for everybody else from the other two ways of getting an invite...they said spring...

LoL ohhh I know but it never hurts to ask. ;)
MisterNJ 02-22-07, 08:09 AM From what I understoof, the initial shipment of Crackdown was to have the Halo 3 Beta--after the initial shipment sells out I don't believe the rest of the copies will have it.
It lists the Halo 3 beta under the download section. I wonder how big the initial shipment was. I actually thought about buying a second copy of it because I wonder if there will be a higher than retail cost on the beta versions of Crackdown a few months down the road.

Didn't it go Gold? Does that mean there are a million copies? Not sure if all million had invites though. Bungie said there would be hundreds of thousands playing it so finding a match would be no problem.

probably, but the beta will be shut off permanently after a certain amount of time... so you'd have to hit the timing just right.
