I've been told that this transcoder from VDigi Electronics is very poor ("crap" was the word used) for handling video, other than for gaming. Assuming the right cables are used, what is the difference between this transcoder and others that are (supposedly) better suited for handling video from sat recievers, etc.?

Thanks, Don.

I have some of these aswell.
I was told they are poor quality because they don't strip off sync pulses, But you could buffer/strip the data off of the output with some extron modules. I didn't try it yet as I have other transcoders.
No matter what black level will float and colors look a little off with these. I used them for video games only

Yep, that is the main problem. Others have also reported that they are not as sharp as the better ones.

Not worth buying unless you are really on a tight budget .

They crush blacks horribly, as well as other pic degrading features.

I had one for my son's games on his projector , but for a few bucks more there a lot of other choices .

They do work though, and if you are not that picky it might be OK for Games .
