View Full Version : COD 3 - so dissapointed
WilliamR 01-25-07, 10:13 AM Wow, been playing it for a little while now. I really am dissapointed in this game. Besides the pathetic cut scenes and how if you save your progress (even a good way into the game), when you continue your game you are forced to watch the cut scene again before you are taken to your save point, this game really has issues.
The AI is horrible. The AI of the enemies is even worse. You can run into a room and shoot everyone, standing still, and they don't do anything. Heck sometimes they don't even shoot back. I can shoot a guy in the face in a room and he doesn't fire back, just stands there and sometimes they look around like, hmm, could someone else be shooting me instead of this guy in front of me with a gun to my face. The game is so pathetically easy its sad (playing it on normal). I shot a guy on a gun emplacement once, he jumped off the gun and proceeded to run around in a circle like his pants where on fire instead of shooting, taking cover, etc. I continually get to parts where key team members have not arrived and I have to go back and find them and walk slower so they come forward to initiate the next check point. And a lot of times when you are in buildings and you kill someone by a wall, when they fall, their head and shoulders are sticking through the wall and can be seen from one side, the rest on the other. The driving, dumb, and what is up with have to get in a boat and use the thumbstick to row. Wow, that is fun, rowing, can't wait to row some more.
To many issues to really make this enjoyable for me, not sure I even want to finish it now.
kerbero9 01-25-07, 10:27 AM I agree that the single player game is terrible. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is really fun. It still has it's share of problems but it's probably the most fun I've had on Xbox live in a long time.
Croberto 01-25-07, 10:30 AM Yes they did botch the single player campaign. I am enjoying the multiplayer though.
Yeah, the single player campaign is pretty mediocre. But the multiplayer is really fun. "War" mode is awesome.
S L O T H 01-25-07, 12:05 PM Single player? Who buys this game for that?
properbostonian 01-25-07, 12:10 PM Wow, been playing it for a little while now. I really am dissapointed in this game. I rate the SP as fair. MP is very good. And I completely agree with you re: the cut scenses. Friggin' awful on all levels.
S L O T H 01-25-07, 12:14 PM the worst part is right at the beginning when there's a sargent standing there telling you to hurry up or something. He just spouts the same damn saying over and over and over... I'm at work and can't remember what he says, but if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about
hello, my name, as well, is william r. and i'd like to say that i thoroughly enjoyed single player mode and the online play rivals even the fun that can be had from watching porn!
kwaidonjin 01-25-07, 12:41 PM they should let the infinity ward guys do C.O.D. 4. because #2 was awesome.
ohmyblazes 01-25-07, 12:53 PM the worst part is right at the beginning when there's a sargent standing there telling you to hurry up or something. Yes! That was driving me crazy too! He says somethin about grabbing a machine gun and getting on the truck about every 5 seconds. For some reason it took me a couple minutes to find the gun he was talking about so I desperately tried to kill him but I couldn't.
Ishmael198 01-25-07, 12:57 PM I agree about the dismal AI.
It was horribly inconsistent. Sometimes they were bang on with their shooting, other times they'd hide behind a barrel or a couch and wait for you to come and hit them in the face with a melee attack.
And I know it's been discussed before countless times, but why must everything be so grey in these games? Where's the colour?
WilliamR 01-25-07, 01:15 PM hello, my name, as well, is william r. and i'd like to say that i thoroughly enjoyed single player mode and the online play rivals even the fun that can be had from watching porn!
Then my friend, you are watching the wrong kind of porn. :D
Brainodo 01-25-07, 02:04 PM And I know it's been discussed before countless times, but why must everything be so grey in these games? Where's the colour?
I'd hazard a guess that you can thank Saving Private Ryan's cinematography for that one.
And I'm all for the odd crack about the French but this game was ridiculous, every other line out of that Jock Sgt's mouth was a pop at them.
I hate CoD 3 even the multiplayer. CoD2 2 was so much better in every single way. I wish they would go back to it and they better bring back the mother ****ing kill cam!!!!
mmafightetnow 01-25-07, 02:59 PM cod 3 mp , codes should be fixed it was freaking hard to sign in at night time (westcoast) even though plenty of open slots.

I've noticed when mp levels are loading there is a write up about the death cam and how you can watch where you got shot from. I know it was in CoD2, but I haven't seen it in CoD3 at all. I thought maybe it was a setting or option that either the host or I didn't enable.
DerekinMerrick 01-25-07, 03:46 PM CD3 is more 360 junk. Just another way for them to make some $$$.
jpb3wvu 01-25-07, 04:50 PM I enjoyed COD3 although the campaign is terribly easy. Probably due to the inconsistent AI as others have mentioned.
I dug the rowing while getting shelled crossing the river, never done that before in a game! The routine to set charges got a little old though.
Not one I'll replay through anytime soon but I was happy with the game. I traded my GoW for it with a friend. I definitely liked it more than GoW. Talk about grey color scheme! The "A" button on GoW is a little overworked and after playing RB6 trying to get used to the awful cover system of GoW was frustrating. It is a horrible cover system. GoW online gets real old real fast too.

COD 3 is crap.
It's what happens when the original developer of a game farms out the development of a sequel.
All bugs, flash and no substance.
OpenMindGamer 01-25-07, 05:29 PM Wow some pretty negative attitudes here. I would agree that on normal difficulty the enemy ai is weak, so why don't you just play it on a harder difficulty? I've tried it on veteran and it seriously kicked my ass later on.
Croberto 01-25-07, 05:35 PM As far as the kill cam. When I die it does show me the general direction of where I was shot from. Not like COD2 but it is there.

Because that is only one small piece of what is broke in the game. Playing it on a harder difficulty will be only a small fix, the rest will still blow/bad AI, bad dialouge, bad glitches, stupid rowing, stupid bomb arming, etc. etc. etc.
OpenMindGamer 01-25-07, 06:06 PM I can see that as a whole there's too many flaws in your oppinion to make it worthwhile for you. But you did devote a lot of your post about the ai not behaving properly and my point is that maybe they are too dumbed down in normal to do the right things. I've seen the ai do some very clever hiding and covering on Veteran. I see all the ohter flaws too but I've actually been enjoying the single player campaign and I think it's a gorgeous game so it's easier for me to overlook some of the other flaws.
As for negative attitudes, I'd much rather read a post like William's saying "I don't like this game because of...." than someone else's saying "This game is total crap." Especially when there's a whole other thread here praising the same game.

If you don't like opinions, don't ask for them or don't read them.
I explained myself many times in this forum on that topic. I am not going to keep typing the same explanation over and over.
AHDTVDiet 01-25-07, 06:21 PM I thought the game was ok but was no where near as good as COD2.
Too many cut scenes it my major complaint. They broke the game up too much and made it seem scripted. COD2 was of course scripted too but it was much easier to suspend belief in that game, it was very immersive. COD3 seemed to do everything to kick you out of immersion.
There are also various get stuck glitches and the AI is not very good. The AI is not much better on Veteran but the game is much harder mainly because the enemy can now seemingly shoot you with persision with a machine gun while hiding behind a rock accross a field. It was mearly a matter of try try try try try try try again to beat it.
However, I did think it was a decent game, not as bad as other games i have played. Its just not on the same high level as GRAW, RB6, GoW and of course COD2.

In fact, this is the most scripted game I have ever played.
In certain level, if you rush for a certain trigger point, you can beat the game without fighting at all.
In other levels, you are supposed to hold until a scripted event occurs and nothing you will do will improve your odds of progressing.

FiveMillionWays 01-26-07, 04:11 AM Guess I won't be buying that one!
leftkidney 01-26-07, 06:11 AM my main problem with COD 3 is the music and the fact that you cant turn it off WHAT THE HELL like I said in another post I hate music in a FPS or 3rdPS what it the point
I really really hate itand I returned Lost Planet for a similar problem in the menu it says adjusts the in-game music volume but it also adjusts the cut scenes and not just the music the SFX as well so if you turn it way down it is mute durring the cut scenes the openint one as well

There is an achievement for not firing a single round in a level, so I guess they want you to or something.
WilliamR 01-26-07, 09:04 AM I loved COD 2, was addicted, couldn't put it down. I wonder if I also dislike this game so much because I played lots of GOW and Rainbow Six Vegas then put this in? Maybe I should of played it first. Oh well, I don't see myself finishing this game, bummer.
S L O T H 01-26-07, 09:11 AM I think you guys may be going a little far with the trashing of this game. I have NEVER played a game that was this addictive and well made online and that is the simple truth. Currently, this is the only game I own and it is holding up quite nicely. Sure the one player sucks, but if you had done 5 minutes of homework you would have known that before you bought the game. Personally, I have logged well over 100 hours of online play and I have gotten great enjoyment out of every minute of it. Moral of the story = do your research and know a game's weaknesses and strengths before you spend 60 bucks on a game.
MisterNJ 01-26-07, 09:14 AM I thought Call of Duty 2 was an amazing game when it came out, however, after seeing what the system can do with other games, Call of Duty 3 just seemed like a rushed sequel that was barely an upgrade over the second one. Played a couple of games of the multiplayer and it didn't really impress me that much so I sold the game over a month ago.
newfmp3 01-26-07, 09:27 AM COD2 was the better game. I did enjoy COD3 for the most part, but I haven't finished it yet as I moved onto other games (rb6/splinter cell) and don't know when I'll go back to it. I think that says enough right there, that I have no drive to go back to it. Although, I have played all of the cod's, and MOH's on the PC so perhaps it is just getting long in the tooth for me. The AI is weak, but to honest, I have yet to see AI in any console game compare to PC games like Far Cry/Fear etc.
someone made a point in this thread about the music. I totally agree. First thing I do in any game is kill the music. I hate it. Can't hear your enemies in FPS's, and I find it takes away from the atmosphere or, it actually ends up being a cheat. For example, Splinter cell double agent. Love the game. But, I can tell how close I am to someone by how loud the music is . How real is that? And driving games. I want to hear the engine in Forza, listen for the turbo and BOV etc, I can't do that with the crappy music on. I HATE, and mean HATED halo2 for this. The music had no control, would cut in at all the wrong times often drowning out what others were saying.

I purchased the game the day it came out, so there was no research to be done. Heck, reviews were not even out yet, just prelimanary, no hands on yet. I purchased it based on COD 2 experience and assumed it would not get worse. I also do not buy games solely for the purpose of multi-player, I play very few multi-player on-line, I want to enjoy the single player game.
So, no, I couldn't spend 5 minutes and do my homework, it was purchased on launch day. Perhaps you needed a little more research before posting this.

that's the weirdest thing i've ever heard. music in games is like a good film score... it adds a certain intangible to the experience. mowing down locust troops or blowing up giant robots wouldn't be nearly as cool without great music.
as for CoD3, i agree... it was a pretty big let down. the unskippable cutscenes are a cardinal sin of game development, it was ridiculously scripted, there were too few checkpoints in many difficult spots, the list goes on and on.
VVVV
yeah, different strokes i suppose. i tend to think of games in cinematic terms, and to me a film without a quality score is a painful thing to watch.

I do the same thing. I find the music in any FPS annoying, as if the character is wearing an ipod through battle, or worse, carrying a boom box on their shoulder, 80's style. I guess I prefer the lines of thinking such as "in real life, my actions are not set to a music score" and "if I was in an abandoned military installation on Mars or running around in the wide open where there is no electricity, would the PA system (or non-existent PA system) be playing music?"
I also get annoyed when watching movies and they set an action sequence to rock music. I'd prefer the Heat style of gunfights (silence except for the sounds of battle) over the Doom style (Rob Zombie music blaring) anyday.
That's me though.
I've only played COD3 for about 15 minutes, but enjoyed it. I switched to GOW and will go back to COD3 later. Based on this thread, maybe I should have saved some money and got COD2 instead (which I haven't played).

COD 2 had a good single-player campaign. Using the trust the publisher had established with COD 2, I assumed COD 3 would be the same.
More and more Xbox games seem to focus on online play, which I don't give a damn about. I really need to do more research, as you say.

What do you want me to say? You made a snap decision and didn't like what you got. Maybe next time you'll wait to see some reviews before you spend your hard earned dollars on a game. Maybe you should have done a little more research about your lack of research before posting this

Your research is extremely lacking. My money is not hard earned. If I wasted $1,000 on a game, I wouldn't care, there is more where that came from. I can continue to buy games the day they come out and I can still be dissapointed in them down the road. Money isn't in option, game play is. I didn't make a snap decision. You don't even know if it was a gift, if I bought it, if I traded in, what I paid for it, etc. So who cares again about the money. Yet again, very lacking in research, you should really stop now.

Next time I'll make sure I look up "obnoxious little rich cod3 player" in the dictionary before I engage in this type of conversation with anyone ;)

Sounds good, thanks for agreeing to do more research, I admire you growing as an individual.
KLUNKDM 01-26-07, 03:56 PM I really liked the game and enjoyed the single player. I do think COD2 is way better for single player, but COD3 was still a lot of fun for me to play. I love the multiplayer the best though....I just enjoy most games for what they are and try not to be that critical of them. I knew what to expect from the game, from reading reviews, so it wasn't a let down to me...........
ice1874193 01-26-07, 04:38 PM I bought COD3 2 months ago and played the first 2 levels and thought it was awful. i couldnt even tell who the enemy was...and i'm playing on a 50" screen! I couldn't image playing this on a smaller tv.
I played the COD2 demo and thought it was awesome but heard COD3 was coming out soon (i got my xbox in may) so i held out for it. was severely disappointed.
i haven't played the MP yet so maybe that is where all the fun is. i'll have to try it out

Dralt you are right, I have had a tendency to get angry when people state thier oppinions (especially negative ones) as though they are facts. From now on I'll change my perception and recognize everyone on this forum or others are just stating their oppinions no matter how they word it. And I'll learn to chill more.
Cheers, and peace.

That was why I read and did a little more homework. I love the Call of Duty series, but was severely disappointed in COD2:Big Red One which I found out was developed by TreyArch. When I heard they were also in charge of the COD3 I decided to give it a pass. I will buy the next COD game developed by Infinity Ward however.
agnathra 02-01-07, 11:02 PM i agree about cod3 sucking, especially the overly scripted play.
but infinity ward is doing cod4 (as opposed to treyarch doing cod3), so i expect we'll get another good one out of them.
I'm only about a hour in but so far I really enjoy the game. Sure its more of the same but that's what I liked about the game. Very fun relalistic gameplay. I wish their were more games like this. I get sick of FPS games with no relalstic level design. Halo was one of the few with so-so leval design but was very fun. Many of the area s were the same backwards but the shoting as it were was very adictive...
I just rented the game via GameFly and yes I agree, this game blows (single player, haven't tried multi)
R6, GoW, and GRAW are much much better.
WilliamR 02-05-07, 09:40 AM What a TOOL
What an IDIOT
JonDotCom 02-05-07, 11:59 AM This game is my favorite right now for online play over Ghost Recon and Halo 2, so that's all that matters :)
actually...now that I've played some of the later levels (the more open ended ones), this game doesn't seem that bad. I take back my comment about it blowing...it's not too bad...
I still don't like the auto aiming but whatever
l88bastard 02-05-07, 06:36 PM What an IDIOT
Sure thing Mr. Toolbox
mrlittlejeans 02-05-07, 07:04 PM I too bought this game on launch day based on my experience with COD2. Played it for about an hour. Its been sitting in the case collecting dust since then. I guess I didn't do my research on the development team. Oh well, my hard earned money is quite often wasted on nonperforming games. I don't let it bother me anymore.
What did it for me was the sound. I'm big into sound coming from where its supposed to come from. It was too distracting for me to have someone's voice coming from the right speaker when they are standing in front of me. I even went through my surround sound setup to make sure I hadn't phucked something up the night before.
Didn't try the multiplayer as I get my fix from either RB6, GOW or GRAW.
WilliamR 02-06-07, 08:52 AM Sure thing Mr. Toolbox
Idiot
jeffLebowski 02-06-07, 10:16 AM Idiot
to his credit, you do come off as a giant douche in that post about how much money you've supposedly got.
although, i agree with you that CoD3 is a large steaming pile. i already traded it in.

I should of realized that no one in this forum can get the meaning of a post unless it is spelled out completely and clearly. Oh well.
Moderator: you can lock this thread, the meaning is clearly lost on many and I do not particularly like dealing with idiots. (Not referring to Jeff).
Kysersose 02-06-07, 11:00 AM WilliamR, please do not insult forum members. If they insult you, report them. They will be dealt with.
Now that you have ALL called each other names like children on the playground, there is not much that can be done.
