Checked this disc out last night. Much better than the remastered DVD, but not a knockout. The film has a dark, muted look most times, intentionally I'm guessing, so that could be it.

I was impressed by the absence of any artifacting in the final dance sequence. That alone had to be a real challenge for compressionists & they pulled it off well. This is an MPEG4-AVC release & the bitrate goes upto 49mbps at times in that sequence. The PCM audio is first-rate. Overall, I'd say this BD's PQ is faithful to the film. I'd say Tier 1. Not meant to look like 'Crank' anyway :).

I'm using the PS3 via HDMI to my Mits HD3000U DLP projector & a 106" high gain screen.

Excellent. Now if I could just find a copy. I guess it's Amazon again.

Yeah the last scene in the movie is just amazing. You can see each individual light bulb on the wall behind them. Even my wife said it looked amazing.

For some reason High-Def Digest (http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/chicago.html) lists "Chicago" as being encoded in MPEG-2...

It isn't. When I display the stats using my PS3, it clearly shows AVC. Unlike Fox & others, Disney isn't good about listing disc specs on the back cover either.
