This site is good because it tells me what the Live Arcade has (not much) and what it needs (a ton) as far as classic arcade games go. This once a week percolation just isn't going to cut it. We deserve more games! How is it possible that people with MAME home units can have thousands of games programmed into their home arcades, yet it takes microsoft a full week to post garbage games like Rally X? I'm not saying all these games are crap, I like a ton of them. But there simply isn't enough variety.
My personal favorites that will probably not make it to XBLA: Cabal, Blasteroids, Terminator 2, Choplifter, Mat Mania

The reason MSFT doesnt release a bunch of games onto the marketplace is that they want to milk each one for what its worth. Releasing Rally X and then a add-on for another title the following week pulls in more sales than releasing say Ms. Pacman and SOTN on the same day...They dont want to oversaturate the value of any title and milk it for what its worth...Basic economics.

I wonder how much "MAME" engine there is in Microsofts arcade releases? They obviosly dress up the graphics a little... but how much work actually goes into their releases?

Mmm....choplifter. Good times, good times!

I would like to see Ikari Warriors or Mercs. I used to love those games.

Yeah I know about the economics of not releasing a ton of games, but how many people really bought rally x when it came out on Live? They can't be making a lot on these stinkers and it just takes market time away from a game that could make them money.

I believe the only release yesterday were the add-on packs for Lumines Live.

Kinda weak....

I say release the 100's of games too.. what are they waiting for..

You would think they would taking advantage of every opportunity possible.. I love the fact Sony released Tekken 5 for $16 bucks.. MS should be paying attention and releasing quality items like that RECOGNIZABLE names from the past.

More so than releasing multiple games because their is a chance that one title will appeal more to a person than the other...However, if they give a small amount chances are people who like the arcade from XBL will purchase it and think "its only 400 points"....

If they released more solid titles and crappy ones at the same time, MSFT probably wouldnt be able to tout the sales from Live as a lot of games would go right down the crapper where they rightfully belong. :)

I am completely against Namco on XBLA...I dont think I ever purchased a game from them...Same goes for Midway....They are garbage, I dont care how they pioneered video games today.

Well fine if they aren't going to beef up the amount or quality of the arcade releases, then at least release a track ball, spinner, and gun so I can enjoy some of these games in the form they were meant to be played in. How stupid is it going to be when centipede comes out and we need to play it with the analog stick? Well at this rate we'll probably never see it anyways. Ok now I'm fired up again  . Where's NBA Jam or Blitz online? These older versions online would be great and would justify a 10 dollar download in my eyes. Or TMNT or Simpsons online? Would it kill them to release a racing game like Outrun or Super Off Road? Good news is the service is in its infancy and once they see how the other companies are doing it much better they will release more. But I am happy with Assault heroes.

I always played Centipede with a stick on the Atari 5200. I don't think I missed anything not ever playing the track ball version in the arcade.

They should be releasing several titles per month, not 4. Silly, imo. Give people a library to work with.
Imagine a restaurant only selling hot dogs so they can sell as many hot dogs as they can and holding off on selling cheeseburgers. I'm not buying the saturation excuse.

I have all the classics I need. Sure there are a FEW gems I would like but its really not worth the effort for them to have Digital Eclipse shovel this stuff out.

Give me more in the vein of:

Zuma
Geometry Wars
Assault Heroes
Cloning Clyde
Heavy Weapon
Marble Blast Ultra
Roboblitz
Small Arms
Astropop
UNO

Its hard to take anyone complaining about LA seriously. You get classics that are revamped as well as new content, many with online play. Want more classics, buy a compilation disk and get 10-30 games for $15-$20. What the hell are you expecting really? Its not like the 360 does not have games galore. This is a bonus for console owners and it has over 40 titles available in a year.

Seriously if you are not happy now, go use MAME as nothing else will make you happy. For everyone else just look at this list for 2007:

Hey I never said I didn't like the Live Arcade. I think it's a great service, but changes need to be made such as MORE GAMES! Take a look at KLOV, there are thousands of games! Frank, besides to maximize profits (which by the way clearly doesn't have the consumer in mind, only company profits), why are they only releasing one game a week? Furthermore, have you ever complained when a game came out that you didn't like or download? If so, then you have no right to knock me for calling the service shortchanged.

Of COURSE they are releasing them to maximize profits. That is what they are in the business of doing: Making money. With LA its a tightrope, they need to make money for MS AND they need to make money for each developer supporting the platform.

From a business standpoint you do not want to "replace" a product too soon. (The product here being the last LA game). Doing so leads to orphaned products.

Thats a sales model that is not specific to LA but to everything. Can you imagine Halo 3 being released a months after GoW? Of course not. Same reason you do not release R6 right after GRAW.

If you release 4 games a months you have a sell through rate, Increase the amount to 8 and you now have a different sell through rate for each title.

Now if you are a gamer you are going COOL! If you are a developer you are going WTH!

Sure MS could shoot these all out and please the SHORTSIGHTED but the long term effect is disgruntled developers with orphaned games. Developers who are not going to continue to support the platform.

A little common sense goes a long way and a basic sales and marketing and or economics class is priceless.

And I thought *I* took care of that years ago.:D

Umm, yeah, tell all the publishers of those titles to just let Microsoft release their products on XBOX Live. Its not that easy to work out deals with all these different publishers. They have to work out how they're going to share profits, who's going to flip the bill for development, who's going to do the developing, and then decide at the end if it'll be even worth their while. Its not that simple. In the world of big business you don't just do anything. Everything basically involves a bunch of lawyers, a ton of paperwork, and many many man hours before a single line of code gets written.

First off - THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH RALLY X!!!! It was the first game I d/l'd and one of 2 reasons why I went to see what this arcade thing was! (Joust is the other)

Now with that being said - Give me more games and a controller with a trackball and a spinner. How am I supposed to play Warlords or Tempest without a spinner!?!?! And Missile Command and Centipede are lacking without a trackball - Yes I have played both with and without the trackball and Tempest without a spinner - its just not the same...

I am happy paying $5 for them and playing them as is, but I would definitely fork out more money for a trackball/spinner controller!

They could release 1000 old arcade titles---one a day for the next 1000 days and I wouldn't care. The arcade classics aren't what I'm looking for. I've ordered a few of them (frogger and galaga) but I've passed on the rest.

Agree 1000% about the controllers. Imagine golden tee sessions with friends at home and not in some stanky bar. Tempest would be awful with a a regular controller as well as many other games. I'll concede in this whole "release tons of games" argument because truth be told I don't know a ton about the process of releasing these games or the legalities involved or the economics, but the whole point of this thread is to just take a look at that arcade site I posted. Look at some of those classics from our childhoods. I just want to play them, that's all! Remember Rastan? How about Robocop, Choplifter, Raiden, Super Off Road? When I think of an arcade, I think of a big playland where I am free to put my money into one of these machines and there is a huge variety in gameplay and fun. The point is I don't get that with this service for one reason or another.
Oh by the way, I've been trying to track down this particular arcade game I played in a bar not too long ago. It was like a virtual reality game where you have this huge heavy machine gun as a controller and everything is in 3d. It is fairly new and it was AWESOME! Anyone know the game I speak of? I had a few brews in me and got a lot of enjoyment out of mowing down enemies in this game. Oh and check out on this site the Double Dragon game for the Neo Geo. I can't believe I never saw this but the idea is sick! I'm sure it's dated by now, but I'd love to check this one out.

I completely agree. UNO was a good "baby step", but there are some good board games that would work well on XBLA. Monopoly and Risk, definitely. Axis and Allies, while long, could work as well.

I cant believe anyone would actually pay for Joust same goes for Robotron.....

I like XBLA I just think better titles could be released...But my XBLA purchases will stop once they FINALLY release that wireless receiver and I can enjoy the perfect arcade ports with my 360 controller...Granted I will still buy the must have titles on XBLA like SOTN/Worms/Alien Hominid and Streets of Rage.

I agree. Playing the arcade games is fun but the novelty wears off quickly (for me anyway). I do play Galaga every now and then and my wife loves Pac-Man. :)
