View Full Version : Tideland & Terry Gilliam & Monty Python. Why not just make this a Gilliam thread?
hacker-pschorr 01-25-07, 02:20 PM I did a search for Tideland in the BD forum, didn't find anything.
My hopes are not very high considering no studio would touch this movie for a full US release.

Has anyone heard anything about this movie coming to either format?
How about anything else from Gilliam's catalog (besides The Brothers Grimm)?
12 Monkey's
Fisher King
Brazil
Any of the Monty Python movies
Time Bandits
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
hacker-pschorr 01-25-07, 03:13 PM 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing are on HD DVD.
:(
Dussander 01-25-07, 03:20 PM Brazil might be coming out soon in HD DVD as well. There were some stores claiming some release dates.
Fisher King, Munchausen, and the Monty Python movies are all distributed by Sony, so if they were to come out they'd be Blu-ray exclusive. Holy Grail has such poor photography on cheap film stock that I wouldn't have high hopes for the quality of any HD presentation.
Brazil, 12 Monkey, and Fear & Loathing are all Universal, so HD DVD exclusive (the latter two available now).
Time Bandits is currently owned by Anchor Bay, who haven't committed to either format. I don't know if Tideland even has a home video distributor yet.
Brothers Grimm is now available on both formats (HD DVD available from Japan).

I call this one a tie - assuming the Sony movies make it to BD.
It would be excellent to see Time Bandits remastered. Tideland is scheduled for a DVD release soon, cannot find the date.
Hesitant 03-18-07, 08:06 AM Just reading on the OAR and what dvd to get.
Any reviews or tips?
Thanks
sharkshark 03-18-07, 05:15 PM yeah, it's a tie, worth having players for both formats...:)
I quite enjoyed the Fear and Loathing HD, but I kept my (fabulous) Criterion SD for the extras alone. Luckily, the 12 Monkeys kept all the extras from my SD, allowing me to sell it as used. I've still got the LD special edition, actually, and I was warmed when I re-listened to the commentary these years later that he still refers to it as a "laserdisc commentary".
I've not yet upgraded Brazil from my Criterion LDs, so I'm greatly looking forward to a forthcoming HD-DVD.
Tideland for many of you will be unwatchable, I'm afraid (saw the premiere at Toronto). The DVD looks to be as good as you'll get, and that might not be so bad for this film. I've yet to try out Grimm (I've got the SD), but after Tideland, I'm a bit afraid...:)

Except for Meaning of Life, it would seem.

The "side" with Brazil will always win. Best film ever.
